TEXT Message claiming to be Wescom Credit Union.  Called and it went to a generic cell phone answering machine/voice mail.

Text message stating that my debit cartd has been blocked. Call 8884541091 to reactivate. Return e-mail address is hlwjig@wescom.org. I did not call as we do not have a Wescom account.

The dc number they had was incorrect, so i gave them the correct numbers for 3 of my cards just to be sure. Also, my SSN, and my fathers madden name. i hope they clear this up asap as my trust fund just matured and i need the money to get a new escalade

Joe: do not give them that information; this is a scam.  I do not have a wescom credit account and I got that text message.  Giving them your correct numbers could give them the material they need to scam you!

I contacted Wecom directly and this is what they said:  Thank you for contacting Wescom Credit Union.  In regards to your message, we are aware of this issue and are unsure why you receive this message, it is affecting members and non-members. It is defiantly part of phishing scam, we encourage you not to contact the number they listed nor reply to the text message.

So i knew it was a fishing scam (for the Western C.U.).. THE BEST PART is that I just got another text from the SAME number... Now it looks like they're the "Farmer's and Merchants Bank"...

Good thing my alter ego took out so many lines of credit...

I received a text message on my Sprint phone today stating my F&M Banks debit card has been deactivated. Funny, I don't have an account with F&M.
The message says call (888) 490-4578 to re-activate.

Please report this FRAUD to the appropriate authorities.

OOP'S,  THE POST BEFORE THIS ONE WAS ONE I RECEIVED FROM ANOTHER 888 NUMBER, BEWARE OF THAT ONE TOO!!

On 6/25/09, I received the same text message regarding Wescom Credit Union.  I have never had a Wescom Credit Union account.  The subject line was: Wescom C.U.  My account number is exactly the same: 4306-65XX-XXXX etc.  and my debit card has been blocked.  In the last severals days I have received 4 other test messages on it related to a Farmers and Merchants Bank debit card that was blocked--I have never had an account with this bank.  My cell phone provider is Sprint and I live in Southern California (Orange County).  I think as long as our cell numbers are sold to telemarket organizations, criminals will use them too.  I called Sprint and they told me I could utilize a 4 digit number to block all fmb.com and Wescom.org text messages.  I will try it.  On Monday, I am going to report this to the California Attorney General Fraud Division.

My husband, son and I all received the same text at the same time,but it said to call 866 654 5557 to reactivate. The text came from zhnbgw@wescom.org.
Wescom D U sucks and i am not stupid enough to call a number i don't know.

text from 888 454 1091. I don't have Wescom, I don't know who they are and they texted my teenage son's phone. SCAM

Got a text message saying my debit card beginning 4306-65xx has been deactivated and I should call 1-888-454-1091 to reactivate my care.  This is not my debit car number.  I called the number from my phone at work and got a message that "this number is not available at this time". This must be some kind of scam.

daughter got a txt message to return call to this number due to CC# deactivated.. told her not to txt or call numbers she doesnt know.. Subject: Wescom C. U. Your 4306-65XX-XXXX-XXXX Debit-Card Has Been blocked Call 888-4541091 to reactivate

I agree with Starry.. she knows not to call a number she doesnt know and she forwards me all her txt so that I can look up the number..

Um, not a call, but an email text to my phone that told me to call this number because my 'debit-card' starting in obvious numbers that are not matched with mine had been blocked..And to call that number to reactivate...the email came from a lejkme@wescom.org, subject line Wescom C.U.

... I am not stupid enough to call this number.
