if your in alberta the number belongs to cedar publishing what ever you do don't agree to their advertising scam its  $ 350.00 for a newspaper printed magazine. very cheap and tacky. they claim the magazines go to the rcmp , hospitals , doctors offices and so on. the rcmp never even heard of the magazine. and they use other companies advertising logos without their knowledge. i made quite a few calls and i refused to pay them a dime, because i never agreed to any thing . so be warned

Oh...forgot.  Also, when I asked who is sponsoring this $100. win for me, they said it was from a company I just did business with a few days ago and it was to show their appreciation.  They didn't identify the company...they couldn't!

Got a SMS text message.  3/10/2011.  "You have been chosen to recieve a $100 Cash Rebate Card!  To find out more call toll free 888-454-3944  TXT STOP to STOP."  I called then number and talked to female rep "Sam Jackson"  Heavy foreign accent.  Said the company was "New Line" located at 1111 Desert Lane  Las Vegas NV 98102.  She continued to try to get my name, address, and phone number.  When I asked for their Do Not Call Policy, she gave me a number to call:  888-326-7156.  I called that number, and it was owned by an unrelated company in Illinois, who had no idea what I was talking about.

I just got the same thing today.  Called them and asked for details which were sketchy at best.  Between my sentences they kept on asking for my name and address.  I said, "so I pay you $4.95 and you give me $100 gift card?"  The answer was "yes, name and address please."  I asked how to pay and they said credit or debit card!!  I said that I do not give out that information to strangers.  They said we are on a recorded line so we are legit.  What?  I called back a number of times and got a different person with the same foreign accent....hmmmm.   I wonder how many people have been scammed already!

good for you! hammer 'em HARD. the real problem is with the federal trade commision. phone numbers have a point of origin and can be found out or traced. in my experience in being a telephone user for at least fourty years is that the telephone companies have records of these adn a terrorist like these people cannot just get an 800 number out of no where.

the ftc is obviously letting these terrorist get away with these scams intentionaly. the best way to stop scamming is to enforce capitol punishment. meaning they are to be put to death!!!!!!!! emiedialtly.!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I did the same thing, I just called. I ended up linking 5 calls together in a conference call with all their automated BS s*** together and eventually each line that was linked the operate came in and was got to listen to all the jaber of 5 different calls on their line. eventually it got down to one line and just hung up. I would say if you have the time just tell them you are really interested but want to find out more. take up like 15 mins of their time stringing them along. who knows, you could be saving some other sucker that was actually interested in it.

Can't say if replying STOP worked, but I tried it and got a response. Now I'm worried about getting surprise charges since (as someone mentioned they got a $20 fee for doing so) I don't know how successfully I can dispute them on a pay as you go mobile phone.

The  last 7 months I have received increasining more txt msgs from services that I do not sign up for.  I do not use my cell number on the web or for filling out any information for anyone.  Its a personal line used for emergency only.  Yet all the sudden I get more and more of thse spam bs txt msgs all the time.  I have been on the do not call registry for a very long time.  They have just started using txt msgs to by pass this - which is not regulated.

I am cancelling my cell phone service now.  I get enough spam in my email and snail mail, I dont need it on my phone to.

just got the same text message reported by others, no idea how i got it as--like others--i'm very selective who gets my number. i didn't call 888-454-3944, and did not text 'STOP' back--no reason for them to know it's a working number. i did file a complaint at www.donotcall.gov as my number was registered ages ago.

so annoying, but grateful for this resource so i could see others having the same problem.

Company claims to be New Line Inc. I called today 3 times, after recieving a text message and I was hung up on each and every time. They state they are partnered with several business, and if you're calling you have made a purchase within the last 18 months, and are a preferred customer. Here's where I became perplexed...I asked, "Really, which business did I purchase something from?" They respond that they do not know because of consumer purchasing  privacy. I advised them that my number is also private, and I don't use it when making purchases. This "$100.00 gift card" can be yours for a processing fee of $4.34. I also asked them "If this is a gift, why do you have to send me a text message telling me that I am recieving it, and I don't believe if i have to pay $4.34 that this would be considered a gift." The lady, "Toni", was very irritated and finally just asked me if I am interested. I told her if you want to send me a $100.00 gift card I am interested, however I'm not interested in giving you my card information to get my gift. I was born in the dark, honey, but it wasn't last night. There are a couple of things you can do: File an attorney general report in your state, they will track down the correct state and begin the complaint with them. If enough people file these complaints chances are that we can STOP these ignorant schemes from happening, or at least cause some monitary discomfort to the rah-tards who dream up this crap. You can also call them, and call, and call, and call some more if you have the time. Jam their phone lines up, and give them a hard time. Inconvenience them like they have inconvenienced you. My vote is that you do BOTH. Get yourself on the FCC DNC list and call and bug them 5 or 6 times per day, for extended periods.

Just got a text message with this phone number in it. Here was the text message I received "You have been chosen to receive a $100 Cash Rebate Card! To find out more call toll free 888-454-3944 TXT STOP TO STOP" The past month I have received 3 spam text messages when in the previous 8 years I have received 1 or 2 the most. I have been VERY good with keeping my cell number private and don't give it out unless I have to with assurances it will not be shared with 3rd parties but someone sold me out obviously. I believe it is one spam company that is selling our phone numbers to people. I say this because the previous 2 spam texts I have received were for similar payday loan websites and the website associated with the first text message was taken down. The loan website for the second spam text I received is still online (www.cash-2loan.com). I have been filing FCC complaints against these jokers but I doubt the FCC can keep up. The cell companies can easily setup a filtering system to only allow text from your friends or numbers you specify but you will never see that happen since text messages are such a money maker for them!

I received a text with the standard "$100 rebate card promise, I called the 888-454-3944, got hung up on 2x. Both operators spoke highly accented English. The female said the name of the Co. was "New Line" ?.  I reported this to the National Do Not Call Registery complaint site.  My cell # has been on the Do Not Call Registery since Aug 2010.  Super irritated with text spam/phishing etc.
