I just received a call from these shady guys asking for my sister.  I got them to give me their number and they would only say they're with MBB, similar to others' experience above.

These guys just called, and some jack*** with a vaguely South African accent said he was with the "Medical Professional business" or something like that. He immediately asked me to give him my date of birth. I explained in no uncertain terms that there was no way in Hell I was giving anyone who just called me out of the blue personally identifying information. I said that he was welcome to tell me what this was about. He then became threatening and said "well, when you call us back we won't be able to help you." I laughed in his ear and I asked if that was a threat. He backed down and started down the "I need your date of birth" path again. I again told him that unless he told me what it was in reference to, he could pound sand.

Bottom line is, anyone who blindly gives out their personal information out to someone on the phone is begging to be a victim of identity theft.

If this is a legit collection company, they are not even close to following the law on debt collection. https://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs27-debtcoll.htm has some great tips and tricks in dealing with debt collection.

MBB is a phony collection agency. They get databases of patients across the country, wait 3-4 months after the discharge date, and then call up with bogus claims of non-payment. When asked to present a past-due bill, they pull the "we've already sent you one" card, which if they refuse to send you another one is in violation of Federal law, especially if the transaction is across state lines. When asked to break down the bill over the phone, they refuse and tell you either you cooperate and give over your credit card and bank info before they hang up, or they'll turn their account over to the company's attorneys and sue you for triple-damages, just for wasting their time on the call.

Best thing to do, especially if you don't owe anyone - especially these crooks - is to tell them in no uncertain terms that you're aware of their scam, and you will be turning the case over to your respective state's Attorney General's office with an attempted phone fraud claim filed against them. Then hang up the phone. At this point, you should do two things:

1) File that charge. The sooner these b*****ds get thrown in jail to play pick-up-the-soap with some sex-starved rapists, the better. Their refusal to send you "another" bill is a dead giveaway that they're scammers, and just more proof that they need to be sleeping in a jail cell, sharing a bunk with some rapist. Either that, or tossed into the prison yard with a sign taped to his back saying "KKK? Okay, Ask Me How!"

2) Block that number. Contact your local phone company and look into how you can block specific numbers from being able to call your phone, especially your cell phone, and double-especially if it's your *work* number.

Note: I hate to mention this, as it's unconfirmed, but the company is supposedly owned by a trio of Iraqi expatriats who moved over here not long after 9/11. They've been pulling their collection debt scams on other groups of "debtors" over the past decade, and they apparently switch between groups periodically to throw the Feds off their trail. So if you get another call, get as much info about the company as you can, and report them. If it can result in these towelheaded w**kers getting deported, then all of us who get these annoying scammers bothering us will be more than appreciative of your efforts!

Company called Medical Business Bureau. Called today saying I owed a few hundred dollars that my insurance didn't pay for an ER visit in October 2012. I asked them to send me a letter, and the caller said they had already sent me one and would not send another. I told her there was no way I could pay without documentation to verify with my insurance and asked that a supervisor get in touch. No call back. I've tried calling the number she gave and it just rings.

I'm leaning towards fraudulent.

Get the free app CALL CONTROL - it will tell you that you have a missed call but unlike Mr.Number - this app won't allow your phone to ring on a blocked number. You can block unknown or nuisance calls and you can report them to a blacklist also.

This place calls me multiple times a day on my cell phone nonetheless.  The first couple times I answered and there was no one there and then hangs up.  Thankfully I found an app that blocks their call.  It's called Mr. Number and it basically does the same thing that they were doing to me - pick up and hang up.  Very annoying still though.  The caller ID does not show company name.

3rd call yesterday, I answered. They want personal information and know my name but will not identify themselves other than "medical bureau" If you did owe someone money, how are you supposed to pay them if they won't even tell you who they are?

The person called, asked for James. Whenever I get a call for James (for the last two years), I know it is a collection agency. So when he asked for James, I said a"Ae you a collection agency?"  He responded with I was asking for James.  I said, "This is my personal cell phone, there is no James here and I am asking who you are and who you work for?" He refused to answer the question.

The question is whether the automatic dialer plus refusal to answer this question violates law, especially since they are calling cell phones?

This company keeps calling and calling and calling.. Each time, I have told them the person they are asking for has never lived here, and I have no idea who it is. I have asked for the person's name and employee ID number as well as their supervisor's name and the company that they work for. They will not provide any of this information to me.  If these people call you, I suggest buying an air horn from the sporting goods dept. and sounding it in their ear when they call you! Maybe they will quit calling!

Keep getting call with collection message for Cassidy Johnson. We've had this same phone number for over 2 years and in that time, there has never
been ANYONE with that name in our household. We've called the number
back and informed them of this, but we continue to get calls.
