I received a call from a Jack Wilson stating that he was an attorney with Pacific Legal Services.  He was heavily accented to have a name like Jack Wilson but in any case, he knew my social security number as well as my place of employment.  He stated that I was being sued for a loan that I supposedly accepted from cashadvanceusa.com. and that I now have 3 criminal charges against me saying that I stole it. The charges are:  Federal Banking regulation violation, Check fraud and something else that was just ridiculous!  (If I HAD accepted a loan, why are they saying I stole the money??)  Just ridiculous!   I admit that I have inquired about getting a loan but in no way did I accept ANY loan due to the insignificant amounts that I was offered.  When I asked him the date, the amount, the account it was deposited in, the date that it was depostied as well as my confirmation of accepting the load, he hung up on me.  This happened at my work place so I immediately came home and called the number again and asked for Jack Wilson,...they in turn hung up on me again.  That being said, I have checked with a police sargeant friend of mine and he found no criminal charges filed against me.  Just unbelievable!  DON'T APPLY FOR ONLINE LOANS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE DEALING WITH!  I WON'T EVER AGAIN AND I WILL BE CLOSING AND REOPENING NEW ACCOUNTS!

I was called by this company as well. And they helped me pay my debt at an extreme lower cost then owed. It was cleared on my credit report, and now my credit is back on track.

At least they have a job and are paying their bills .... wish I could say the same for you. I would suggest stop making excuses, stop degrading others, and man up to the debt that you owe... stop complaining.

Had a call from a Scott Townsend....with this number....said he was with the processor's office and needed to serve papers; gave a 2 hour window and said they would try 3 times before coming to the home adress on file or place of employment.  I have been served papers to appear in court but it was from a sheriff that came to my house....no prior phone call.

If you have fallen behind on your payments, the credit card company may sue you depending upon the amount you owe. There are some credit card companies that may file a lawsuit when you're only 60-90 days behind on payments. To avoid being sued, negotiate with your creditors so that they offer you a payment plan you can afford. If you don't feel comfortable negotiating with your creditors on your own, get help from a debt relief company. Keep in mind the only reason they have your information is because you WILLINGLY gave it to them (SS# and all) when you applied for the card or loan in the first place. People never seem to have a problem giving all their information when they need the money but when they owe it they suddenly have rights. Many people believe that once the debt is charged off by the original creditor that the fees and interest are no longer added to the account. This is false. Your accounts will continue to accrue interest and fees while in collections. "Charge off" means the creditor closed this since no payments were being made, this doesn't mean it's still not owed.

I do think this company is a scam. I didn't disclose any personal information, for I don't know who I was speaking to, and why they had called. I did call my local police department, and they said they couldn't do anything. I hope someone doesn't actually fall for this scam, which is why I was trying to put a stop to it- I hope enough people report this to the right authorities. I wil certainly make sure to ask a law professor, just to become better informed.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

I have just received the same calls on my cell phone and my work phone. Her name was "Jasmin" and she threatened me with a time frame to call back or they will come to my job. I didn't even bother calling the number that was left because if this was true, they would have sent a sheriff or constible and left these calls out. If there is some way to turn these people in for harassment, please, please let me know. I am tired of it.

So I left the message on 02-24-2012 above, this time when the process server called and threatened me with his 2nd attempt to come to my home or office, which by the way is how it's done here in NC a civil summons still has to be served in accordance with Rule 4 of North Carolina Rules of Civil Procedure, In other words, service still has to be done either by Sheriff, other personal service certified mail or other mail carrier as approved by statute but, signature is still required, so the call back number for the caller MIKE ANDERSON was 919-792-4201 when google says it the 11th floor civil division of the Wake County Court House FAX machine! So we went to the court house today and they said they have been receiving several complaints about this SAME activity from other people, we now have the chief assistant to the clerk of court and filed papers with the attorney general's office & the Sheriff's department, this situation sounds extremely shady and anyone in the same situation is protected as a constitutional right to due process of law by ?serving? with a written notification that states the legal issue that involves them specifically!

I called this number back just to see who answered and all it says is Corporate Office and the answer machine clicks on for your message. They have my mother worried about this harrassment call. And I read the other replys thats true they dont call you ahead of time to warn you they are looking for you. A constable will just show up at you place to serve you. and if you are not home they will leave a calling card.

Kevin Cambell, Taylor Stevens, Donald Coad, P.L.S. 2588 El Camino Real F-#215 Carlsbad CA 92008 number 888-477-7016 fax 888-826-98813 same type of calls and I too have been served in the past, NC law requires a sheriff or certified mail package to serve the documents, they never call you to sign the yellow paper, let them count down the number of attempts, they didn't care that I hadn't lived or worked in the same place 3 years ago where they got all the information, have them take you to court, the law has protections and a lawyer can make sure you don't pay a fake company, pay the courts not a person.

These people called my parents house looking for me 2 years ago. I filed a police report and was informed by the officer that it was a known credit card scam, and that the FBI was already investigating it. They called my parents house again today saying that I would be getting court papers in the mail soon, for money I owed to a credit card company, that I have never had a card with.

Same here. A "private process server". Threatened with summons for court. If anyone else has any info about the legitimacy of this threat, please let us know. I know bill collectors will do anything to collect.

They have called me several times, both from an actual line and from an Unknown Caller and said they were a process server's office and that they were going to send a server out in two hours if I didn't call back.  I may owe money, but I've been sued before, and 1) they don't call and warn you first and 2) they only called by fairly new cell phone line and not my 20 plus year old land line and 3) included my place of employment which I haven't worked at in two years.  If they were legit, they would know I had no place of employment and also my other line.  I'm glad to see others on here so I can now be sure they are scammers.
