I got the same call on 12 march.  Janet Spencer at 888 484 9495.  I panicked and called my attorney.  Shew suggested i protect my bank acct immediately  Sometimes they succeed in these scams.  They are artist at what they do.   They knew everything about me and my family.  I am an advanced age  senior citizen but not stupid enough to fall for a scam like that..  Life's experience counts, but they don't realize that. The only thing that made me so mad was the fact that i couldn't get them on the phone in person to give them a good old  fasihioned red neck  "horse cussin."..

Got a call from 844-788-8783 with the name Samantha Grover.  Spoke very quickly and said something about my social security letter being sent back undeliverable.  That time was of the essence.  I called the number at 8:00pm thinking they would be closed if it was the social security office and a man answered Matthews, Middleton & Associates and that is how I got this website.  They may have changed their number and the name of the woman who is calling.  I am part of the Target breach and my info is floating around out there as $2,000 was attempted to be charged to my business account.

These people called mu Aunts phone and left a message. I called them back . Some guy answered.
Once I gave him my last name, he pulled up my file.

He said he is a "lawyer" and can represent me for a lawsuit that Discover credit card filed against me . He said they are suing me for an unpaid debt from 2005 _yes 9 years ago_ plus all applicable lawyer fees. He asked me to make a statement. So I said "please stop calling my Aunts house" ,,, he then yelled a bunch of legal crap at me, then said "I wish you the best of luck, your introuble !" I laughed and said Ok , whatever. ( I dont like being threatened) so then he hung up on me.

Not sure who these people are, but seem like debt collectors that sue fancy words.

To "another reporter" who posted on 3/14, thank you for mentioning the part about  "their mail to me was returned as undeliverable".  It didn't occur to me before about that, because an address they would have of me would in fact be old and would be returned undeliverable.  So I thought, "maybe they did mail me something".  But your point proves that is false, and you are right.

My point:  The fact that YOU have lived there for 13 YEARS just proves this "Janet Spencer" is reading off of a canned script, same message to everyone.  Otherwise, you would have recvd any letter from them.

So DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM!  This group of criminals is trying to scare you. If you do talk to someone, tell them to get a real job.

Similar msg from "Janet Spencer" stating that this is her second attempt to contact me and that their mail to me was returned as undeliverable,  which was my tip-off because I've been here for about 13 years.  Reporting to state Attorney General's office.

Debt Collector
I got a call from 0000000, Janet Spencer (I think, I didn't right it down).  Called the 1-888-484-9495 back that was left on the message.  They are claiming I still owe a debt.  I used to but I paid it off.  Matthew Middleton and Assoc.  They only give out a PO Box but refuse to give out a physical address.  When I asked for verification of the debt, he (Thomas) got REALLY defensive against me.  If this were a REAL debt collector, he would 1. go out of his way to get me a written verification, and 2. go out of his way to prove he is legit.

Do NOT give any more info than he already has.  Wait for them to mail you a letter, which he never will.  Funny when I got a call from them before, it comes up as US Homeowners Association.  Who knows what that's about.  When I google the company name, even though they claim to be in Lockport NY, the LLC is registered (according to some website) to a 2nd floor suite in Brooklyn NY.  And the company name is aka US Corporations Agents.  NY state is NOTORIOUS for scammer fake debt collectors.  When I googled the physical address, it's some run down 2 story business.

Only then should you contact them back in writing asking for verification.  Otherwise, ignore the calls, and let it ride out.  Contact the FTC or CFPB which I did, and file a complaint.  This is a zombie debt collector, which is some bogus spreadsheet of old, expired debts that still has your name on it.

So relax, don't call them back.  Wait for a letter if they are calling about a debt you ACTUALLY had.  And then take action (requesting verification in writing, getting an attorney).  I doubt they will do more than just phone call threats.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Got a call right now from 00000000.  Was a recording that stated that "Janet Spencer" a "licensed locator" was trying to contact me for a second time ( I got a call about a month ago, same BS) about a "case that involved my SSN." When you call the 888-484-9495 number you get some clown pretending to be an attorney and wants your phone number to "look up the case."  The guys says he's located in NYC and gave me the office name, which has no web presence (forgot it, sorry.)  Then when I refused to give my number, he got mad and said if I didn't provide it, he couldn't look up the case and hung up on me.

I was called by this number today, I did not answer as I was working. They did not leave a message. They then started calling family members and were referring to me and my ex-husband, who I have been divorced from for several years. They do not have legitimate information, it seem that they are fishing for info. Maybe got a copy of an old credit report?? I have a published number and mailing address. It is not difficult to find me, there have been no collection letters OR letters notifying me that I am being sued.

Know your rights. This is most likely where large companies, usually credit card companies sell old accounts to small time attornies for pennies on he dollar. The accounts are no longer valid and may be out of statute. Sounding threatening often scares ppl into paying. You do not have to pay a thing especially because it has to be sent to you in writing. You calling them back verifies that they've found you and they will continue to call and harass. Know your rights. Know the laws of your state.

A follow up.... Called the number provided at 10pm New York tome and someone still answered! Refused to give out info and defensive doesn't even begin to describe the attitude of the "rep". Called from a different number than the one they originally called from and very sweetly told them about internet research. He immediately became loud and abusive. Totally recommend calling if you want a great laugh! But clearly is not a real business or legitimate call!

Received call from this place, said they had litigation against me and I have no such litigation. Very threatening calls. Harassing family. Have never received any notice in the mail, have never received any notification or been served with any type of litigation papers or filings. Woman's name Janet Spencer. This is a scam, and they need to be stopped.

Also got a call from 000-000-0000.  When I called the referred number, 888-484-9495 the gentleman on the line told me I owed $144,000 as at today.  He also said the original amount was on a Mastercard that I signed up for in 1998 and since I didn't make regular payments on my credit card, the interest had accumulated since 1998 and now the total amount I owe was $144,000.  When I asked their company name and address, the gentleman asked me to "google it".  He also said I should wait for paperwork from the courts regarding my debt of $144,000.

My husband also received a call from this women. The guy was rude to him asking for his sister by name. They Google your number to find out your relatives so you are more likely to give them information.  My husband said to quit calling him and the guy said sorry I can't take you off of a legal document. My husband hung up and forgot about it.
