I believe this to be a scam because our company/business is also receiving this phone call for "Samantha" and you can not reply to the information without entering private information or even speak to an operator.  Scam written all over it

Hey, Mike Dunlap, ?king of the hill? at Nelnet! I?ve had this phone number for over 15 years.  Your company keeps calling me looking for, Heather Bates, who evidently owes on student loans. I?ve told you many times that this is my phone number and that Heather Bates must have had it before me.  Surely to goodness the statute of limitations have run out for this girl and the money she owes you.  I know that I?ll continue to hear from your company again and again.

Yea with all these scary reports about trying to deal with this company, I did notice a couple posts about just to hang on the line if you call to get past the acct info stuff they ask for & a real person did answer and  the nice guy asked me for the name they've been calling so he could attempt to find it & remove my number. And like someone else says, time will tell.

It's Nelnet.  They service one of my student loans and the calls are usually auto messages with account updates.  Today was just a courtesy reminder about discontinuing paper statements, they are all e-mail statements moving forward.

We do have a student loan. They were advising that a an email statement summary had been sent and that it was not a bill. I marked "unknown" call type simply because other choices did not describe this call. Seems to be legit.

It's Nelnet Student loans.  They called me to remind me that they emailed an accound summary even though no payment is due. Not sure why they want to remind me of this, but whatever.

They keep calling and leaving the following message on my google voice account, you would think once would be enough, not sure why they keep leaving the same message. I'm going to keep on not answering and probably block the number since it's just the same message each time.

I get calls on my cell phone for someone that appears to have had the number before I obtained the phone.
The messages are to call back to discuss payment plan.  I have had this cell phone for over 5 years now.
I would like to know if the callers/NelNet are to verify the current phone #'s that they contact before calling over and over again. I do not feel the need to call them, as I am not the person they are trying to contact (even though they leave another person's name- and should they be leaving another person's name on voice message?).   I do not wish to waste my time sitting on my phone or office phone to correct this. In addition, I do not want to give out my name or any information because you really do not know who you are giving it to.
Whom can I contact to stop these calls from collectors that do not check out the correct person's phone # before they continue to call and call.
It appears to me, if someone does not respond to their calls, they may have the wrong cell phone #.
All I know is, that I do not have the time or patience to call every person who calls the previous owner of cell phone # to have removed when it appears the individual or caller will not remove or believe you.

The problem is that you cannot contact them because when you call them a recording asks for your social security number or account number and if it doesn't match, you cannot get through to anyone.  So obviously, if you are the wrong party, which is true in my case, I do not have an account with them so I cannot get through to anyone.  I have a phone number that someone named Eric Byrd apparently had in the past because that was who the message was for.

They have been calling me for over two years. A student loan for Demitrius Stanton (?). I've told them at least six times that they have the wrong number. I do not know a Demitrius Stanton and I have had the same phone number for 14 years. I've reported them to "Do Not Call" five times, but they still keep calling. How do you stop the calls from coming???

I had received a message about my estranged daughter-in-law's account. I called the number someone had posted in the comments on another site (866.763.5638) to get a hold of a real person at Nelnet. She took my phone number off the account and I gave her the latest number and address I have for my DIL. Hopefully that takes care of things.

Called and left a message about college from Nelnet.  If they try again I will tell them off and report them. I never borrowed or owed for anything so they better stop or else!

so i recently started getting calls from this number, and while they call frequently they do not let my phone ring but for an instant before hanging up.  i am scared that if i call the number it might encourage them to call more often or let it ring until voice mail gets it.  so how do i block a number?  and can this be done with a prepaid phone?

I do not have any student loans.   I suspect this is a collections agency for my friend who defaulted on his loans and included my info as a reference.  They are trying to get his money.

I received a call from this outfit for the first time this morning.  I didn't answer the phone  because I keep the ringer off and didn't know that a call was coming in.  at some point, I noticed that we had a pending message on the answering machine.  I don't know exactly what they want because their recorded message started in while our answering machine was going.  The part of their message that I did here was of such a bad quality that I thought they were saying 'No Med' instead of Nelnet.

Periodically, we get calls from University of Phoenix student loan center (or something like that) looking for someone that none of us knows.  I guess this is just one more of those - calls for someone that doesn't live with us and could never have had our phone number - we've had the same number for nearly 15 years.

I'll do what I always do:   Use caller ID - I pay for it so I might as well use it - and let the answering machine do the rest.  I am not responsible for their poor skip tracing and I won't legitimize their sloppiness by picking up the phone.

This number has called my phone using a dialer 18 times in 3 days. Spoke with two people that both said they would remove my phone number from their dialer, but to no avail.... if I answer the phone call, there is no one there and no recorded message. Have tried being nice but that does not work.

Probably because a student gave them the wrong phone number when applying for a loan. Either by a typo or intentionally.
