According to the The Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
The federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) prohibits debt collectors from using deceptive and unfair tactics, regulates what time of day debt collectors can contact you, and requires that collectors honor your request not to contact you at specific times or places, among other things. The FDCPA does not eliminate debt, it only governs the way in which debt collectors do business.

the name of the company is renovo - they go under different names because they have merged with other companys, renaisance and primeritus - all the same. they have 2 offices - legit company - if they are calling you then your name was either on an unpaid loan or you were listed as a reference on a deliquent car loan nothing sinister about it unless you are trying to hide something :0)

Actually, per FDCPA, the only thing you are required to state immediately is your name and your purpose for calling:
Hi, my name is Joe and I'm trying to get a hold of Sue Johnson.
Simple as that. You do have to say who you are. And if it's in any state except NC, IA, IL, OH, MA, and NH, you can talk to the spouse. Those six states are known as non-spousal states.

Nice try, but in order for them to stop contacting you, you have to send a Cease and Desist letter. Telling them to stop if it is a valid number for the person they are trying to reach isn't gonna fly. Aaaaand, a vague threat to contact the Attorney General and a lawyer means nothing. Again, a Cease and Desist letter is in order.

The number that came up on caller ID was 6166775100 Didn't recognize the number but left a msg on voice mail stating this was Roger with a great/wonderful business opportunity that should be taken advantage of soon. It's a great deal. IDK why they said this but that's what they said and said to call back on the number 888-499-7376 and left an extension number also 289.
Said it be better if spoke to them to handle this situation...? What situation I thought this was a Business opportunity I mean c'mon. The msg on voicemail said nothing about auto recovery, repo, or debt collecting but this was a wonderful business opportunity to take advantage of.

Exactly,
We would not continue to call a number that was not for the person we were looking to speak with. That would be a waste of our time.
| SKA 2009-06-27 05:58:38 Unknown |
thats because it would be a clear violation of the FDCPA (Federal Debt Collections Privacy Act) if we told you who we were and why we were calling. We legally can only speak to the owner of the vehicles about why we are calling. The only reason we'd call you is to reach that person. All you have to do is return the call and say wrong number and we take the phone number out of the account. Until then, we assume your phone number belongs to that person.
And no, unless we have a ceast and decist order (written legal document asking to stop calling) we do not stop if requested verbally. But, naturally, if it is the wrong number, we stop immediately.

That phone number corresponds with this company: http://www.renrecovery.com/iedlfile.htm They appear to be a car repo company. Curiously, that website doesn't contain a mailing address or any specific contact information other than a generic email addrees.
But a WhoIs search provides the details on the who and where of this company:
Administrative Contact:
Renaissance Recovery
Gary Koster
14200 Ironwood Drive
Grand Rapids, MI 49544
US
Phone: 616-677-5100
Email: gkoster@renrecovery.com
And Google showed this .pdf file which contains the company's contact information and the phone number from which they are calling you:
Renaissance Recovery Solutions

Grand Rapids, MI 49534
Tedd Parsons
1-888-499-7376, Ext. 334 tparsons@renrecovery.com
Now that you have this information, I would call (or write) to notify them that they have called you twice about a matter that doesn't involve you and that both times, they have refused to identify themselves and have hung up on you. Then tell them that "you are to cease communication me." (That phrase will get their attention.) And I'd also tell them that if they don't cease communication with you, that you'll contact your state's attorney general, the Michigan attorney general, the Federal Trade Commission and your own attorney.
If you do that, I'd bet the calls will stop. :)
