This number keeps calling my parents house saying that they will be arrested if they don't do what the "irs" is saying. I called and told them they are scam artists and needed to get real jobs, he proceeded to ask me if he could see my private parts (the words he used were very vulgar) it's safe to say that this is not the IRS but some do***e bags that need a life. I wish there was a way to report them to the authorities because they call over 4 times a day.

This guy called twice, left two messages, and freaked my mom out.  He gave his name (garbled), said he was from the Internal Revenue Service, then spelled out IRS.  He left this phone number 888-508-7967.  and said that if she didn't call back, she would be arrested!  I am glad I googled, and found this page.  You'd think with all the power the government has over phone tracking, they would go after a***oles like this one...

(but no, there is no money in that!)

When parents refused not to give him cash, he said that he is sending the sheif over. When the "cops" called my parents they Threatened to kill my parents.  There were sirens in the background noise. FOLLOW UP - The IRS website warns of a phone scam where they try to convince you to settle your debt to the IRS. You can report them to the IRS as follows:

From IRS.GOV:  "If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (http://apps.irs.gov/app/scripts/exit.jsp?dest=http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/) at 1.800.366.4484."

I hope they find these fraudsters.

They called a few times today, after having tried several times in the past. ONce they left a vmail and today I decided to answer it. The man with the Indian accent claimed to be with the IRS. I thought it is a felony to impersonate someone at the IRS (or similar agency).

From this number a message left claiming to be an auditor from IRS saying that I'm about to be arrested because of tax fraud. Asking me to return call immediately.

I called back and the person identified himself as Kevin Rogers, an IRS auditor, asking my phone number and couldn't find records for my case. He said he will call back and haven't heard from him again.

I checked on IRS website and found this following announcement:

We just got a call from this number (at 7:30 a.m.!). It went to our answering machine. The guy said his name was Steve White and that he was with the IRS.  He used my husband's name, saying there is a legal complaint against him for tax fraud and that if the matter wasn't resolved immediately our local police (named the state and citiy where we live) would arrest him. I recognized it as a scam but it was disconcerting to hear our name and city used. The caller had a difficult to understand accent, although it was NOT an Indian accent. His first language is more likely an Eastern European or Asian language. He was working hard to emphasize his "Rs".
He finished with "Kindly call us back, at the toll free number 888-508-7967. Thank you and have a blessed day"

Received several messages from this number from an Indian accented guy stating I needed to return the call regarding IRS issues before a legal action is taken against me. I looked up the legitimate IRS numbers online and didn't find any 888 numbers. When I tried to call the above number just to hear what they had to say, a different guy answered saying ,"IRS" and when I asked which dept. of the IRS it was, he suddenly changed his demeanor and said something extremely nasty and hung up.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

I had the same situation.  Calling from IRS  "Tax Audit department" 888-508-7967 from Allison Hamilton then Robert Marshall- both were male operators sounding like Indian heavy accent. Robert Marshall sounded very agitated when I started to ask for an invoice or bill for  "tax deception" allegation.  He asked me to follow his instruction very carefully. Or, police will arrest me within :45 mins to an hour. (It's been more than 12 hours)  ;-0 He said I had an option to pay $3856 or face 9 months jail time plus $72,000 penalty / court case.
He said he will send all the documents regarding the allegation once i send him the payment!  Boy, did this scare me at one point. I knew it was a scam the moment he asked for the money first then get me "the necessary document"

I know where they are going with this .... HELL!

IRS never calls you first, they always send letters initially, and allow you to call them first.

Tell these characters you're reporting them to the IRS, Dept of Treasury and FBI and they'll never call you again.

This is a total scam. I spoke to someone with a foreign accent who said his name was Tony Foster on the voice message he left at my home. When he called back, he said his name was John Harris. He gave me an address in Washington D.C. and told me he was "done playing games"  when I challenged who he was.

I also received a phone call from this number, but I will not be calling it back.  I would report it to the annoyance hotline.  There are numbers that can actually get a hold of your information and actually make charges in your name if you call them back.  Not sure if this is one of those or not, but I'd rather not take my chances!
