So I started receiving calls from this number over a month ago.. it's an automated recording that states the following:
"Hello, this message is for John H******, if you are not the right person, please hang up or disconnect. By continuing to listen to this message, you acknowledge you are the right person. There will now be a three second pause in this message."
At this point, mind you, the female voice has not identified who she is and what company she's with, nor has she provided contact info to reach her and have my number removed if I am indeed "not the right person."
Needless to say, I am definitely NOT John H******* so according to this message I was SUPPOSED TO hang up. But if I were to prematurely disconnect AS INSTRUCTED instead of listening to the entirety of what sounds like somewhat of a confidential financial matter that was irresponsibly left on my answering machine in my private residence without ever verifying the recipient, how am I to correct their obvious mistake?
So I listened to the rest, and the woman's voice then told me that her name was "Kris" and she was calling from "The Affiliated Group" and that she was trying to collect a debt involving some portfolio investment - for which minimal details were offered. Quite frankly, I don't see what the big deal is about me hearing that message to begin with...
But here's where it gets interesting. Firstly, you should know that I didn't bother to call back. The message told me to hang up if I were the wrong person, and so I pretended as though I had and after jotting down the call info, I deleted the message because I didn't want to bother dealing with it.
But then the messages kept coming. First a couple, then none for a week. Then I get two more the next week, stating the identical message, but one of them was actually in a British/Aussie accent! Simply bizarre! It's like, ok maybe this John person will respond better to a Brit? But what's even shadier, is that the person still identified herself as "Kris" even though it was a completely different voice and accent.
Then another week goes by, and I start getting the same message, but now it's in SPANISH!! "Hola, esta mensaje es para John H*******" and guess what... it's from "Kris" again!!! Only this time she's got a completely different 3rd voice from the other two!
These bastards are absolutely relentless! And I'm not even John H.
So now I'm contacting my lawyer, my Attorney General, several credit reporting agencies, AND my local media in an attempt to bring this companies deceptive, unfair business practices to light.
And if I ever meet "Kris" I'm going to donkey-punch that b***h!!

Always get this caller, don't know who or why but they call my cell, then my home phone....creepy turds.

The Affiliated group flagrantly violates the law by identifying themselves as the person they are trying to collect the money for. Not identifying themselves is a federal crime under the fair credit reporting act.

This number (888) 532-5841 calls several times a day. I answer and the line goes dead. Very frustrating. Does anyone know if there is a way to "block" it from being able to ring through to your phone? They call even after 8 pm and before 8 am, which I think is against the "rules" ... I'm not late or behind on any bills so I have no idea what it's about. Has to be a wrong number but can't let anyone know cuz no ever responds. Can this number and unknown owner of this number be reported to our state's attorney general's office? The FCC? anyone?
Please post any ideas.

This is a collection company. Of course, they had a wrong number but continue to call.

Some how if you dial that # back it goes to a legitate place of business with nothing to do with collections. How that works I don"t know, I happen to work at that place. Call that number one time and see from 7 AM- 4 PM EST.

I've had it with these collection agencies. I'm simply reporting any and all of them to the FCC and letting the gov't take care of them. Perhaps then those jerks will get a large bill and quit calling and harassing the wrong people.
