I typed in this web site to look up the company I use to belong to so I hope I have the right insurance.  If I do not, I still would like to alert people who are searching for low cost insurance like myself what happened to me.  I retired at 62 and was on only 1 medicine plus have an overweight problem.  I was turned down by all major insurance companies even though I go to my doctor every year for a check up, have a papt smear, and a mamogram once a year.  Total weight loss is now down 55 lbs but no one wanted me.  I signed up for US Trust Realbenefits.  Had payroll deduction of $289.00 taken out every month from my bank account faithfully.  After my routine lab work and above tests were done and my copays paid by me, I started getting letters of claims not paid.  I called the insurance to be told that there was a new claims dept., this happened 3 times to me and 3 times I had to notify my billers where to resend claims.  Then I got collection notices and  was told by this insurance company they are a year behind in paying claims.  I asked to speak to manager or rep. and was told that the girl I was talking to was a call center clerk taking messsages and would forward them on.  I could not talk to anyone in charge.  I immediately cancelled my policy, paid all my medical bills in payments to catch up, and now writing this note.  Just for the record I paid out over a year $289.00 a month for 12 months = 3468.00 and they paid $210.00 toward my once a year medical bills and put me into collections -  not exactly what I signed up for.  I did know that this was not major medical but I do have the workbook and how they were suppose to pay their claims.
HINT:  I joined CVS prescription plan and pay $11.00 for generic medicine I take for a 90 day supply.  In my case only, I will set aside the $289.00 a month take my tests and wait for Medicare to grace my age bracket.  One more year.  So be careful what you sign up for. Think carefully about your options.

This company absolutely is a sleazy scam. At no time in my conversations with these thieves was I told that the insurance did not include major medical. When I decided to cancel, I made several phone calls a day. Of course, I had to deal with the inept receptionist who would ask me the reason for my call. When I mentioned I wanted to cancel my policy, her constant reply was, "All of our managers are in a meeting." I found it odd that every time I called to cancel my policy, they were all "in a meeting." Over the course of a few weeks, I never received a return phone call. If this were a legitimate company with real professionals, I would have heard from them. Eventually, I cancelled the credit card I used for the initial payment as I read where people continued to have money withdrawn from their account after supposedly cancelling their policy. This is, without a doubt, a crackpot scheme to bilk people out of their money. DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING THEY SAY. SCAM, SCAM, SCAM. SHAME ON YOU, CROOKS.

Do any of you check with your Doctor's  office  or your hospital to see if they accept this company as an insurer? If they have, they know how they get paid. That's how I find out who is legit and who is not. Wake up America.

Here's how you know ALL CAPS above is lying: Walk into your local Lenscrafters or any other eyeglasses place that the plan says it covers. And watch as Lenscrafters and all the rest cannot find this group as one of the discounting partners anywher in their system. I'm saying try it with any of the eyeglasses companies the company names in its plan because eyeglasses are the easiest thing to get any kind of coupon/discount/etc on -- and yet this outfit is such a scam that you won't get a discount even on your eyeglasses or exam under them.

The company absolutely is a ripoff. Pretends to be health insurance, only after you buy it do you learn it's "discount" not health insurance, and even the "discount" part of it is a scam. And at the rates they charge you might as well have real health insurance -- and no doubt they keep getting away with the scam in part because people assume at the prices they are charging they must be real health insurance. These are some sick puppies.

Yes, their first call to me came when my insurance at the new company I was working for was just about to kick in after I started the new job and I was very concerned -- and confused. It's incredibly misleading, deliberately so (and of course had nothing to do with my job health coverage). SCAM. Absolutely. It's an outfit that presents itself as health coverage, and then if you buy it it presents itself as a "discount" service, but if you try to get even eyeglass prescription filled (which has tons of discounts and coupons everywhere) the shop will never have heard of this outfit and you won't get a discount there nevermind if you are hospitalized. SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM. And they will happily take your money unti you figure it out, and then one more draft of your account after you cancel. Yes I know because I've been taken by one such place before when I had no job and was trying to get legit health coverage. These things make me FURIOUS; we have a health care crisis, people can't get coverage and buy them thinking they might be and even THAT is a scam. Okay I'm done venting.

Company calls about once a week leaving a message that they need my approval for health coverage with all the works and even preexisting conditions etc. Actually this is the callback number they leave but not the number that comes up on the caller I.D. screen because that number is always different. When I called them to ask them to quit calling me the "secretary" became very indignant, apparently unaware that yes, she's going to get calls from people wanting the calls to stop and people not pleased that the outfit she works for is a scam.

DO NOT under any circumstances pay for this policy until you have the policy in hand.  It is so grossly misrepresented by the agents.  I received my packet 1 day before the policy went into effect.  I was told I didn't need Major Medical because the inpatient portion of the policy would cover everything.  WRONG!!!  I was also told there would be no pre-existing illness clause.  WRONG AGAIN! They fail to mention that they pay for outpatient visits, but not the injections or ancillary costs that are a part of the visit.  They also do not pay the physicians.  You have inpatient payment/day, but the physician and ancillary costs are not included in that either.  The vision portion only covers a portion of a vist and 10 or 15% off of certain frames and eyewear.  It is a total ripoff.  I have reported them to the BBB for investigation as well as securing an attorney to insure my payment is returned.  STAY AWAY FROM THEM AND LET OTHERS KNOW ALSO.  There is a special place for people like this who make their living by taking advantage of those in need.

Katherine:

I purchased a policy from you a couple of weeks ago.  I was promised a copy of the policy within the next two weeks.  I haven't received any policy.  I phoned the number you gave me and spoke to another woman.  I asked for you and she said you could not help me and that you were no longer working that account.  You specifically told me that I could call you anytime I had questions and I trusted you explicitly.  Now I am doubting the reliability of this insurance.  I hope I have not been duped.  From the comments from others, it appears I may have been duped.  I had questions regarding my policy and now I am really worried that I may have thrown my money away on this policy.  Please prove me wrong.

When you google the number, all you get is negative reviews.

THIS COMPANY IS NOT A SLEAZY COMPANY, WHEN EVER ANYONE IS TALKING WITH A CUSTOMER, WE HAVE TO LET THEM KNOW THAT WE ARE NOT MAJOR MEDICAL. THE REASON THAT WE MAY GET YOUR INFORMATION IS BECAUSE OF YOUR PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS AND WERE THE ONLY COMPANY THAT WILL COVER YOU BECAUSE YOU WERE TURNED DOWN FROM A MAJOR MEDICAL OR YOU ARE ONE THAT CAN'T AFFORD MAJOR MEDICAL AND ARE LOOKING FOR AN AFFORDABLE HEALTH PLAN.

You will be throwing your money away. It is messing with people's lifes as the company is getting rich, name of them just changes. it's an endless cycle. Thanks for your time in this matter. Mary

Stay away from these people. The company is Family Health Resources. They are a sleazy company. The insurance does not provid major medical. You will pay a nonrefundable amount of $125.00 and pay the first month's premium at the same time. Should you want to cancel, they will simply ignore you and give you the runaround. If you have any problem, call Jean at 1-858-755-9700. She's not very nice, but you'll bypass the smarmy receptionists.
