I received the exact same message, same day, same time. I also have a 989 number.
CJ 2011-06-06 21:05:41 Unknown
I got the call. Thinking it might be from bank of Whitman in our area and I know people there but looked like a scam
Dan 2011-06-06 21:05:41 Unknown
Just talked with my credit union because I got the message tonight aswell, it's scam don't call them and report it to your credit union!
D M 2011-06-06 21:05:41 Unknown
I got the same at 12:27 am last night. Weird. My mom got the same thing too at the same time. I dont have any bank and she doesn't use a credit union. I called it a few mins ago an got a recording of a british lady sayin to leave a messg but the inbox was full. I wish i had the time and could get paid to call or text random ppl!
Bthumme 2011-06-06 21:05:41 Unknown
Got the same message from wanigas, and I dont use Wanigas. But since my phone is a 989 area code, and wanigas is a 989 only bank (its Saginaw spelled backwards), it has to be based on the area codes.
Angie 2011-06-06 21:05:41 Unknown
Just got a msg. from this number, it's 12:30am, it said...
mobilealert@wanigas.com(MAC)Mobile Alert! Please Contact Wanigas Credit Union At:88854O6243. Thank you.
Now what bank, credit union, or other money facility would send a text msg. at 12:30am?
Shawn 2011-06-06 21:05:41 Unknown
I just got the same thing but mine was from wanigas credit union. Called the number and a computer asked me for account information and pin numbers. It's not my credit union so obviously I didn't provide any info. Obviously a scam.
me to 2011-06-06 21:05:41 Unknown

Mark 2011-06-06 21:05:41 Unknown
Got the same text message at 7:43pm. "office@whitmanbank.com Security Alert. Please contact Bank of Whitman at: 888 540 6243. Thank you.
I don't bank with Bank of Whitman and when I went to BAnk of Whitman's website, this number doesn't match any of their toll free numbers.
Text was sent from: 36245
Mike 2011-06-06 21:05:41 Unknown
Received a text from this number informing me of a security alert. We do have a Bank of Whitman in my area, but I don't bank there, and their website has a different address.
JuJu 2011-06-06 21:05:41 Unknown
Got the message too...
It says it is from 3625
Office@witmanbank.com (Whit) Security Alert! Please Contact Bank of Witman at: 888-540-6243. Thank you.
No Bank will ever contact you via Text Message
Nicki 2011-06-06 21:05:41 Unknown
I just got a text from them. Apparently there's a Security Alert. Trouble is, I don't bank at Whitman Bank, so it doesn't make a ton of sense. Seems like a scam, but I'm more concerned that they figured out my number some how.
Random Text 2011-06-06 21:05:41 Unknown
Got a text telling me to call this number and Whitmen Bank. Not my bank.I don't trust it.

we just got the same message texted to our cell - anyone tried calling the 888-540-6243 number t see what their scam was? Hmmmm, is there any regulatory agency that cares about this kind of stuff that needs a heads up?
stephanie 2010-05-27 15:54:10 SMS
I received a text from 36245 (which spells email on the phone keypad), and the text said that there was a "freeze" on my debit card, and to call 888 540 6243 to have the restrictions removed. The funny thing is that the text said "88v" instead of 888, but I knew that the "v" is in the 8 position on the keypad. I hope no one gets scammed by these people
Concerned Consumer 2010-05-27 15:18:24 SMS
AHH - i totally got it too! Thought it was strange, so I did call it and they asked for your debit card info, experation date, etc...
Anybody tried calling Bank of Whitman to see what's up?
Robert 2010-05-27 05:30:30 Unknown
I've gotten the same message on my cell phone. Last I remember, ANY bank doesn't use a 888 area code number or contact you through sms messages. That and I don't bank with those guys anyhow. I went and checked my families cell phones and yep, they got it too.
Stacy 2010-05-27 04:10:58 SMS
Thank God I read this! I was freaked out a bit... Glad to know it's a scam. How did they get our numbers? Probably not that hard I guess... Thanks for the info everyone!
Kim 2010-05-27 03:47:20 Unknown
Both my kids received this message on their cell phones:
