I get these too because the lady next door uses my phone number (cause she doesn't have a phone). They (DIRECTV) is calling for her wanting to get her free directv boxes to sign up now. She is already a directv customer. Something doesn't seem right about that.

Anyone can get a toll free number. I have several that I use for various businesses. They cost me a buck and a half per month plus usage... And I can set the outbound caller ID to anything I want. I'm totally legit, no telemarketing or cold calling - just letting you know how easy and cheap it is...

Called my cell while I wasn't near it. Didn't leave any message.
Julie 2009-02-16 19:03:46 Unknown
I get a call from these fools everyday. I always hit "3" to "be removed from" their call list. One time I hit 1 to be connected with someone live, it was someone with a thick east coast accent "Mike" and he told me the name of the company was "Loan Modification Center". I said what's a good number to call you back (so I could report them since their every changing 800's and 888's are only outgoing). He said "hold on I'll check what a good number is" and put me in infinite phone hold until I hung up. These ones are persistent, I also have an "unlisted" number...
spc 2009-02-14 18:36:22 Unknown
Finally answer... every week angry people call my cell screaming to stop calling. My number is ###-888-5522. They must be misdialing and getting me.I'm changing my number today.

The only way telemarketing can be truely stopped is for people to stop buying from, donating to or voting for those who use telemarketers. This is more than swearing at the telemarketer or getting mad at them because the company who hired them will never hear about it. Even getting onto the companies DNC list will not help.
You must go to a store, in your example Circuit City, appear as if you will buy something substantial and get as close to a manager as possible. Let them know, always very politely of course, you are not buying because of the telemarketing and then leave. This affects the manager directly and they begin to complain to their superiors that how can they meet a sales quota when people are walking out because of the telemarketing.
It may be mean, but they have no qualms about wasting your time. You have also gotten their attention at a critical point in the company - sales. No sales, no company.
So when you hear people complaining about telemarketers always ask them the question - Are you part of the problem or part of the solution? If you deal with them on the phone you are part of the problem.

thanks for the quick response!
i think your question is one that still haunts some of us at night. lol
gosh i wonder why this type of telemarketing business is still up and running when Geweke, Circuit City, and alot of those big companies are going out of business? not to mention..that they dont get anything out of all these hang ups they are doing to us! who is this rich person behind it all, and they consider this a "job"?!
boy i sure do have many questions today..and this is just one of the many forums i googled on today lol

The telcos are only concerned about making money. They do not care if the numbers are going to terrorists or people ripping off little old ladies. As long as they pay their bills the number can be used for anything. A further question to ask is why directories of the numbers do not exist. The telcos are just assisting the rip off artists but then come to think of it - Don't telcos also use 800 numbers to telemarket?
frustrated... 2009-02-04 23:52:47 Unknown
you know i have always wonder how they get these multiple 800 #s? doesnt the phone company(s) ask or check to see if these companies are legit before issuing them one or however many they are inquiring for?

They called me about lowering mortgage rates. When I asked what the name of their company was, they wouldn't tell me and hung up. Before he hung up, I asked if he knew what the DNC was and he said it didn't matter he could still legally call. What the F***? I would like the company's info from public records, so I can sue the living s*** out of them. SERIOUS.
Jeff 2009-01-28 21:40:06 Unknown
I think its both (or all). Fake car warranty, fake health insurance, "lower your interest rate" scam, fake satellite TV installation, free gas card giveaway scam, and now (ready for this?): fake warranties for home appliances! LOL!
frustrated... 2009-01-28 21:13:24 Unknown
so are they a mortgage or satellite tv company???

The person or business at this number calls my home. Although I answer the phone with a "Hello" two times, there is no response, then they hang up. When you call the phone number, the automated operator response is "29-3, We're sorry the number you dial is invalid. Please check the area code dialed or call directory assistance in the city you wish to reach."

I don't know how they got my number, but I hope there's a way to stop them from calling again

I got a call and I pressed one and got connected to someone about "loan management" firm called *HELP MODIFIED*. I asked to talk to a supervisor and I asked if I could get a phone number for the marketing company that they were using to acquire phone numbers so that I could remove my phone number from their lists. The supervisor named John said he couldnt do that but they use 15 or 16 different services. When I tried to explain that their illegal acquisition and dialing of phone numbers puts them at legal risk he hung up on me.
Anyway, if anyone knows the company *HELP MODIFIED*. please post their info, telephone number, address and etc. Maybe the national community can put some preassure on them to stop using these services or give us a contact number for these services they are using.

This number called with "UNKNOWN" and the phone number. Upon answering, I heard a male voice, seemed recorded, say "Hello", then the number disconnected. Very strange.
KLP 2008-12-05 19:09:31 Unknown
And if you try to call it back it tells you the # is invalid
