just got a call from darius jones at the liaisons office saying they'd received a filed suit for a debt sent them them from fcr legal services and that he was in the process of getting my address and employment information to complete the filed suit. assuming some kind of garnishment, on my end.

ultimately this is an idle threat, and DO NOT respond to them. SOL is 7 years, and doing some research the debt was ten years old! it's not even legal for them to be calling you at that point. it's a last-ditch effort to collect money illegally from people who don't know any better.

oddly, last year, i'd also received a collection "garnishment" threat about a verizon bill an ex roommate had run up and i never paid from something like 11 years prior. this stuff is not legal, people. don't fall for it.

That's not true.  Plenty they are doing is illegal, such as threatening you with legal action they aren't allowed to take, threatening to sue you for more than they are allowed to, threatening to hit you with thousands of dollars in court costs and lawyer fees, refusing to give you their information, etc.  All of which they did to me, which only stopped when I said "I'm an attorney and you are breaking the law."

They are absolutely risking complaints and suits.  They tried it against me today and when they found out I'm an attorney, they changed their entire game.  I'm suing.  I came here to share my information with anyone else they may have done this to or attempt to do this to.

If you agreed to pay them something, you might be in trouble.  You may have renewed the entire debt and screwed yourself.  You should check the statute of limitations in your state to see and be sure.

Good for you!  "Agt. Hawkins" (from some company we couldn't understand the name of )called and threatened to have my driver's license suspended, file a "writ" or some crap if I didn't call back in 48 hrs.  Bottom of the food chain to work for companies like these.

I received a call from a Sean Bailey saying he was calling from some office (he mumbled the name so I couldn't catch it). He said that he had received a fax from CR and Associates saying they were filing something against me and that he needed to verify my information before he served me with legal documents. He said I or my "legal representative" would need to contact CR and Associates before he could do this and left this phone # 888-554-4970 ext. 1 and left a case # to reference. At the end of his ridiculous message he wished me luck.

Needless to say I googled CR and Associates and found numerous complaints against them for malicious and threatening calls. I will not be calling them back.

This number is bogus! You may owe a debt but it is more than likely long past being able to be collected. I gave my info to these people but research showed they were not who they claimed. I stopped payment thru my bank for 50 bucks. I almost fell for it. Don't let them get you. Now they call maybe once a month from different numbers, probably because they are still trying to withdrawal money with my info but i paid the extra to stop them indefinitely. Really the legal department is not going to spend so much time coming after you for an old debt. If you broke a law or were going to be summons they would be at you door with out a threatening phone call. You most certainly would receive something by mail. I had them verify there identity and they sent me a cheesy email with fake letter head. What caught me was that is was from Canada! It did have a website that seemed legit to but it is not a certified or recognized server. Don't fall for it!

The thing is these people get away with this because people do not know what their states Statute of Limitations on Debts. In Arizona it is 6 years, and the debt that they are claiming is 7 years old. This is a last ditch attempt to collect on it before it is removed from the credit reports. This group contacted my mother who is over 70 years old and told her that her daughter was going to jail if I didn't contact them. Really people? Do you think that is going to work? How about a counter suit for almost killing my mom? Bet that would change your tune.

Also, you might get better responses if A) you learned how to properly pronounce someones name, B) if the person calling used proper grammer and C) the person on the phone sounded like they had at least a high school education.

I'm not an ID thief, but chose the nickname to point out that this is very borderline and perhaps even illegal in some jurisdictions. Most of this is bog standard junk debt collection tactics, however this is the first time I've seen someone leave social security info in such an insecure/unverified fashion.

I'm an early victim of identity theft, from 2001 before there were established procedures for addressing it (FTC, etc), and I'm still getting these asinine collection threats even though these accounts are all reported as fraud.

This particular one is a bit alarming though, I mean how many accounts only require the last 4 digits of social as authentication over the phone? I can think of several, and leaving my digits on some random/unconfirmed voicemail is very negligent. If anyone has their accounts abused due to this indiscriminate sharing of their last 4 social digits I hope they use it as a legal basis to make an example of this company. F****ng ridiculous.

Oh, and "Lee Azon", feel free to pursue your threats. I have police reports, FTC affidavits, and documentation releasing liability from the original account creditors for these fraudulent accounts... not to mention that all of this is WAY beyond the statute of limitations. Take your bully tactics somewhere else.

I have received a few calls from this company for my ex, with whom I have not lived with in over FOURTEEN years.

Rebecca Pierce (sp?) from Lee Azon's law office called me yesterday. She distinctly separated Lee from Azon, which could possibly be a word-play on "liaison." She requested for him to call back. She wanted his physical address to BRING him "legal documents" to sign. She knew the last four of his SSN, and left it on my answering machine.

When I called the 888 number she left for my ex, I was connected to an automated voice-mail service for Checks and Credit Reporting Incorporated. Here is their information, which I found on Google:

Check and Credit Reporting, Inc.
3806 Union Road, Ste 155
Cheektowaga, New York 14225
Phone: 888-872-7699
Fax: 716-681-2892

No one deserves to be threatened this way. If they are calling you, a debt is most likely getting ready to "die" due to the statute of limitations. It seems to me these tactics are a last-ditch effort for debt scavengers to collect an ages-old debt.

Remember your rights! Before you pay on a debt or give anyone any information (INCLUDING YOUR ADDRESS), they must send you documents proving the deb. Do not give them your home address or work address. Give them a PO Box.

I had a "locator" service call me yesterday and say that I had to call this number 888-554-4970 and speak with the attorney regarding a pending case against me.   I called this number and they are not an attorney's office.  They are a collection agency.   They were collecting a debt by QC Financial or Quick Cash.  They said they had a case pending against me for over $4,000 with attorney fee's and $760 fine for each charge.   Funny thing is I paid this debt off years ago.   I went through old bank statements and found the pay off and the company that I paid this off with.   I verified the information and that it was infact paid and closed.   I'm calling them back after work and letting them know I'll be filing a harassment complaint and sending someone to them to sign court documents for FRAUD

I feel for you because this is your job.  But, you have to realize strong arm tactics don't work a lot of the time.  Especially with the internet.  There is no debtors prison so you have to be first and foremost a salesman and if legal action is necessary inform them but don't threaten it because in some states if you threaten it, but don't follow through it is against the rules.   Also, a lot more people are getting wise to the fact that we are buying the debt for pennies on the dollar, so in some cases you should try to take whatever you can get.

This number (888-554-4970) came up as an unknown number on my cell phone. I did not answer it, as I don't if I don not know the number. They left me a voice message saying that his name was Dale Thomas and he was a processor for Lee Azons office. He said there was a case being filed against me under my name and social and that he needed me to call the number (888-554-4970) back to get the information VERIFIED that he needed before he served the papers to my place of residence and my place of employment. HELLO!!! I wasn't born yesterday! I do not have any debt out there except for a car loan that I faithfully pay on every month. My credit is outstanding and I have only 1 credit card that I use occasionally. Whomever this person is needs to stop calling my cell phone number. I don't fall for these kind of scams. I just wish I knew how they got my cell phone.

I have been in collections for almost 10yrs now and nothing this company is doing is legal.  I now work for a law office that does collections on debts and this is not how business is done.  And for the people that wanna start bad mouthing "debtors"; no one deserves to be scammed.  We have had to deal with companies like these and they try to get your debt card or credit card info and just keep taking money out claiming that its for fee after fee.  You cannot go to jail for a pay day loan.  Most online pay day loan companies which is 99% of these companies; are not licensed in the United States.  If you get a call and don't know what to do just get them talking they start running off at the mouth write everything down or record the conversation and take it all to an attorney. Get a free consult if necessary and they can advise you from there!  Good Luck!

I got a call from them today.  First from the "process server" who asked if I would be home from 9-10 so he could serve me papers.  He gave me this phone number and the lady said I had to pay or go to court and she could recall the summons if I paid today. I believe the debt they were talking about was a legitamate debt but it was from 9 years ago. Mrs. Long said if I didnt pay I would go to court and have to pay 2500 by the end of it.   I agreed to pay and gave them my credit card  info!  I was so scared because they said they would come to my job and summons me there which I didnt want to happen.  So basically I just paid a debt that I didnt really have to pay because it is too old and they broke the law by threatening to sue me.  I called the police and they cant do anything unless they take more than the agreed upon payment.  Now noone is answering at this number its like they have a filter that once you have called them you cant call them back. They were supposed to take my fax number to fax me a receipt and she didnt ask for it.  They didnt record the call that I know of like they do when I pay my other bills.  I just feel so dumb for falling for this- that money could have went to other bills.  I have considered taking the money out of my account so they cant take it but I am afraid that it will cause more problems because I agreed to pay the debt on the phone.

I will not deny that this call may be about a debt I owe. My issue is the threat of legal pursuit. Fortunately, I live in Texas, and there is nothing that can be done legally. I I worked for a debt collection at Chase Bank in their credit card division...I know how this works. Don't threaten me, don't call my friends and family saying there is a "legal matter" pending against me and you need to contact me. Mail me or hand deliver all the documents you want, but until it is delivered to me via my county constable's office...I care not what you have to say.

this is a company that is tryin to scam u from the beginning....most of their debt is already out of statute of limitations.....they r tryin to get u to confirm the debt (which has to be in writing to hold up in court) or get u to pay a small amount to renew the SOL....they r a scamming agency who is breaking the law!!!....check the statutes in your state before u agree to anything with this company....i talked to JOHN LEWIS who claims to be the owner and director of the company..a lie....he sounds like a 21 year old wannabe thug sitting in his cubicle tryin to be a telephone tugh guy.....he stated how every call was recorded and then proceeded to literally tell me to SHUT UP because i was asking him a qestion while he was talkin....well the fact of the matter is.....it is against the law to imply that they will sue u or r sueing u after the SOL date is up.....u can sue them if they do....wait for the so called paperwork that they send u then take it to an atty and tell how they scammed u to agree....remember all of their phone calls are recorded so they will have to provide those in court...good luck and happy collection hunting
