Sorry, forgot to mention what was so LOW-CLASS about this scam. My house, and someone else's garage, had just been robbed two weeks prior & the debt collectors mentioned the robberies in the area. They promised a free home-alarm unit with installation & activation for free with a $36 per month fee to have it hooked to the police.
They set up an appointment and then serve you up papers. Do not set up appointment or you and / or somebody you  know are f****d.

Debt Collector
This is a definitely a "gotcha" number as it comes to debt collectors. You call back & receive a pre-recorded message asking to just leave a message about the free "thing".  Now they "gotcha" on tape saying that you wish to be contacted, which they do via various other numbers.
Basically, if you are contacted by this number than you or someone who has lived at your house owe some money to collections.
In my case, I consider this scam to be totally low-class as my home had just been broken into and most major electronics were taken along with some jewelry and a small amount of cash / change. We had been living in this neighborhood for 24 years, and while I wouldn't necessarily call it a safe area, even all of the local gangbangers, that had  come & gone on the block, had never done anything to me or my property besides stupid gang tags on the back of your garage a few times per year. But never had somebody kick in my back door and break it down to steal my stuff.
And these debt-collections would stoop THIS low, to take a family tragedy that has deeply hurt my Mother & lil' Sister so much and caused our family much worry.
You know what, maybe I should invite them over to my house. They can clean up the mess the theives left of some of my rooms. That's all they're going to get from me, cause it all got stolen.
Oh, and the various numbers the called me from were mostly local to my area but here they are: 708-991-2137 (ext.500 lol), 708-991-2631, & 620-263-3537 = which is the debt collector's main line in my area.

I received a call from the number (on my ID) 1708/960-0850 .  Message stated crime is high in my area and to call 1888/576-6713 for FREE ADT monitoring system installation and FREE activation. When I call 1708/960-0850 the number rings and disconnects or gives a steady "busy signal".  When I call 1888/ 5766713 a man answers with "I understand you're interested in getting an ADT System".  The name with the 1708/960-0850 number on my ID is USA Prives.

The notion that this call is from criminals looking for homes to rob that don't have security systems is just plain stupid. The purpose is to send out some slick salesman to rob you with a tricky contract.

It SOUNDS like they are saying "ADT", but if you listen closely, they ARE saying "ABT".

Also, if you notice, the caller's number that everyone posted here is different (NOT the callback number of
888-576-6713, but the number the call CAME from)...this is because these are "work from home" telemarketers, or, as the another poster on a different site such as this one has mentioned, it could quite possibly be various criminals looking for homes that do not have a security system, but I'm betting it's just work-from-home telemarketers.

The call I received was shown on my caller ID as "USA PRIVES" 708-991-2496 and belongs to a Scottie D. Hogroe, age 38, from Tinley Park, IL.  According to Radaris.com, Scottie is related to:
Brenda Shepherd, ~52
Stacey Bussell, ~40
Damon Hogroe, ~42
Brenda Hogroe

SO, if everyone that receives this call comes here and continues to post the CALLER's number (from their caller ID), then we can all harass these telemarketers at our convenience ;)  call them repeatedly, during normal dinner times, in the middle of the night, as the rooster crows on Sunday morning, during major televised sports events, during the finales of top TV shows, on holidays, etc. Let's see how THEY like it!

I forgot to mention, if you DO want to play "harass the telemarketer", BE SURE to punch in *67 on your phone right before dialing the telemarketer's home phone number......this SHOULD block any caller ID info on their phone, and is supposed to show only "unknown caller" on their caller ID, but I'm not sure if it works the same for EVERY phone service company.  Check with your phone service provider, if *67 doesn't work with your phone service, they should have another method to do so.  Actually, this is what the "work-from-home" telemarketers SHOULD be doing before calling strangers from their own home phones.  Duh.

I received a voice mail on 2-14-14 saying due to high crime in my area ADT would install a free security system in my home.  They said to call them back at 888-576-6713.  I know that ADT security systems are expensive and wouldn't be installed for free.  I didn't call them back.

I just got this same call & found your post by searching for info about this.

I thought she said it was an ABT security system, not ADT.

The call I got came from 708-960-4836. Searching that number, it does not appear to be a business listing but a Yolanda Harrison in Glenwood, Illinois. My caller ID has identified the caller as USA PRIVES.

They made my ears perk up with their opening words: "This is a public safety call." I immediately thought, "Gee, let's see if it really is or if it's a private business selling something, or possibly a scam."

I'm very sure the call is NOT legitimate. We just got one -- and we ALREADY HAVE a home security system FROM ADT. If this really was ADT calling, they would (or should) have known that we are already customers.

My guess is that the true purpose of the call is not to sell home security systems, but to build a list of homes that don't have one -- especially those where the call went to voice mail. That way, they get of list of phone numbers, which they can easily cross-reference to addresses, where there's nobody home during the day, and no alarm system either. Any "rise in residential burglaries in your area" is the result of these calls, not the cause of them.

I'm glad we have a monitored alam system AND a dog.

Cross reference phone number 708-799-4684 for more details. It's basically a scam about home security, supposedly.  Just do not answer and do not call number back.

I don't have caller ID on the phone the call came in on. It was a prerecorded message, and this was the callback number they gave.

They claim that, because of a spike of burglaries in my area, I'm entitled to a free security system. I'm highly doubting the legitimacy of the call.
