You are such a do***e bag! The debt may be "owed" but not recently. There are laws in place that once a debt is more than 6yrs old you can't legally collect on it. Many people do not know this so they are threatened by the bottom feeders such as yourself and set up a pmt plan or own up to the debt and therefore opening themselves up to legal action.  Bottom feeders buy OLD DEBT and try to collect on it to do one thing...make money! They are not collecting money from you and then paying off your old credit card or payday loan, no, that's already been written off by the company after their collection agency was unable to collect. The debt is then sold to the sharks and the sharks start to stalk you. Pay your bills but know your rights.

They are a collection agency.  Someone owes someone money and they are attempting to make said someone honor their committment.  If you don't owe money and get a call, chances are it is a 'skip trace' effort to locate the person that does owe money.  They will have your number is: you live at the same address as the person they are looking for (previous or past) or if the person they are looking for had your number before you.

They can not, by Federal and State Law, tell you why they are trying to get ahold of the person as that would be Third Party Disclosure of a debt owed.

I received a phone call today.  A person asked for me by my First and Middle name.  My husband gave me the phone.  The person asked if I knew a person (who is my brother).  I asked him the person who he was and what company he was with.  He said his name was Rex (First) (Reinhart --not sure, he said it very quickly), and he was calling from Tulsa, OK for URS.  He said he was trying to know if I know the person.  He eventually said my brother's name again and the name of his business.   He got very aggressive with me on the phone and I finally hung up on him.

This call was very strange. My brother has an honest business and any person can find him directly by looking him up in the YellowPages!! THere was no reason for this person to call me looking for my brother.  Additionally, my brother is in another state.

Solution:  After I Googled this number and saw all the complaints, I called the The Federal Trade Commission (FTC).  (1-877-382-4357)  I told them everything I new.  They gave me a reference number from the complaint.

If URS calls back, I was told to call back the FTC. DO NOT GIVE URS your reference number.

They need you to call them directly to file a formal complaint so they can track this pattern.  I encourage all people who have received a harrasing phone call to call and report this.

I just rec'd a call from the rudest lady I have ever talked to. She called and asked me if this is so and so (mine) residence? When I said yes, she asked me do I know (gave a name). I 100% positively have NEVER even heard of this person in my life. When I answered "no, I do not know this person, she got even more rude. She told me, "well, your name is listed as a relative of this person. I told her again, "I'm sorry, i don't know who that is". This really made her mad and she got even more nasty. As I was hanging up the phone on her, I heard her saying something like I'm mad at the wrong person. Mad? I was just letting her know I don't KNOW the person she's asking me about. I really don't. I'm assuming by everything I'm reading here that this was a collection agency.

Call came in at 9:01 am CST on 02/26/08.  We were sleeping in so did not answer the phone.  The person calling left a voicemail message in a very stearn, demanding tone.  It was worded as follows: "This call is for (husband's first name) or (wife's first and last name).  This is Michelle Davis.  I need you to return my call at 866-787-0790.  My extension is 2236.  I called the number and got an automated system that identified the company as URS and requested I input the extension number.  When I did this it put me on hold with music. Due to recent reports about supposedly toll free numbers where the caller leaves a message and asks the person to return the call...then tries to keep them on the phone as long as possible...running up phone bills of thousands of dollars...I hung up quickly.

This caller is a collection agency and according to the federal trade commission. A collection angency can only call the number that is provided by the agent that is looking for it's debt. Furtheremore they cannot call you without sending a mini memorandum over the mail over the debt. You can sue up to $1500 for harrastment charges and violations according to the federal trade commission.

I received a call today, at 3:21:51 CST, asking if I knew my neighbor named Paul Johnson.  The caller kept stating "This is just a long shot but do you know your neighbor named Paul Johnson?"  I am not sure how they got my number.  The call was just very odd.

Karen, whom I spoke with first, was extremely rude and disrespectful.  Gave the distinct impression she didn't care about anything.  Either had a hearing impairment or attention impairment because she couldn't answer my single question.  I finally spoke with someone who had called me.  Was not at all impressed with their people skills.  ESPECIALLY since this was a wrong number!  I too have a job and had I treated the people who called me the way I was treated, especially since this was a wrong number, I'd have lost my job in a heat beat.  HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL!

I am a landlord and have received calls from this company asking for information about my residents. I do not give it out, but I find this behavior wholly unethical and I hope there are not other property managers/agents out there providing this information without explicit permission from their residents.

We got a call yesterday from the 888-593-8409 number looking for my husband's ex-wife and/or her second husband.  My husband has been divorced for 19 years.  His wife and second husband live in the house my husband and she had built in 1972 and the telephone number there has never changed.

How did they get to our phone number which is in a totally different area of the state and with no connection to the first wife?  We find this odd!

After we hung up from the call, we got very curious and called the company back.  Of course, they were very vague as to why they had called our number to reach the other party.

I work for this company.  I would like to take the time to explain a lot that I can't while I am working.  URS is a company that has been in operation for over 30 years, it is one of the largest, and the FDCPA, GBLA Act, and strict Corporate regulations define what we can and cannot do.  Essentially our job is to recover a debt in the least possible time as far as possible towards 100% of the debt.

Some states have laws that override federal laws (FDCPA) but generally we can do all of the following:

Contact 1 time per day at any given number (or re-contact if no answer)
Home, cell, place of employment, relatives, neighbors (nearbys), multiples (same last name), associates (indicated on the credit bureau – CBR) and any other possible source of LOCATION INFORMATION (even the bar, minimarket, local – use your).  But these third parties may be contacted only once unless we believe that in the meantime they might have acquired further info.  There is a lot more to this and there are some limitations and variations that I can address in the future, but I don’t want this to be too long.

If we have a valid contact this STOPS – if you don’t answer the phone or call back it will continue.  This is NOT harrassment.   When we make a call, if we are unsure the number is a HOME or CELL phone for the consumer we will leave a very generic message that does not imply that a debt is owed.

Anybody we talk to, even at a home number, we will not imply the nature of the call except a "personal business matter" as we do not want to embarass anyone and it is against the FDCPA.  Many people pry and what to know what it is about.  Give us a break, we don't want to waste time either and we cannot disclose that information to anyone except the consumer, his/her spouse (with the exclusion of some states) or any person that consumer may delegate, we have to record that permission before discussing.

If you say you are the person we are looking for, we are going to ask for a second varification either confirming the mailing address (a po box is fine) the last four of the SSN, or date of birth.  We have all this information anyway, not confirming justs wastes your time and doesn't solve your problem.

By the way – collection agencies are not subject of do not call lists.

Answer the phone, call back, be polite – we will too.  We are here to find a solution, be sure there will be one within your capabilities.  If it is not YOU we are looking for, sorry, tell us that and you will receive no further calls if we can define that you are a third party with no information.

Being a 3rd party collector we are not allowed to threaten like 1st party, most experienced collectors do not want to anyway.  The new hires are usually pretty fired up, but we keep a close eye on them and they usually have an experienced collector next to them on one side or another.  Sometimes a collector might seem rude but time is of essence, we have all heard every story, we will listen, but we have to make decisions quickly that take into consideration many things.  The consumer (yes, we actually care), The client (original creditor), our company, and ourselves.  Yes, we know something bad happened, we don’t need the raw details, we just need to find a solution.

Remember - your problem is not ours, we did not cause it, we are only here to find a solution that does not cost you a penny, there are no charges to you for the services our clients (creditors) pay for.
