Received several calls from a number using all 0's. I didn't answer. They call my job several times a day. The receptionist told them that I cannot receive any phone calls at my place of employment and let them know they can call my cell phone if they need to get in touch with me. The lady refused to accept that answer. She demanded that she transfer the call and she would not leave a voicemail. The receptionist did not transfer her. Then they started calling my corporate office in Chicago!!! They had no idea what this was all about and called me telling me that these people were calling everyday several times a day after they were told not to do that!! This is harrassment!!!

Received a call from 888-610-4701 yesterday as well as today. After several times listening to the voicemail we finally found out the person said Mr. Leon at extension 234. He said that I had guaranteed a business card for a person whom I do not know and that he wanted to get me back on track with this. Makes no sense to me I don't own a business.

The same person called in November 2011 threatening to have me arrested. This place is clearly in violation of the FDCPA.

First off, this place isnt a scam. It usually people that owe money and dont pay any of their bills that hate bill collectors. my experience was great, i was overwhelmed do the balance of the account and i was afraid to call back. i finally answered the phone and they reduced the bill so much and i was able to make payments on the bill. they then sent me a letter stating the account was satisfied and the tradeline from them and from my original creditor both got updated from a negative to a positive status which increased my credit score significantly. also i asked y the number comes up all zeros and its because they use a data line which is cheaper not becasue they are trying to scam anyone. so before you give up, give them a call and see how they can help you. p.s if everyone paid their bills then we wouldnt have to deal w/bill collectors, but on the flip side at least they have a job and are working.

Angel, the best thing to do is do not talk to these scums at all. By getting you to make a payment they have started the clock running fresh again on another 7 years before it will be off your credit report.IR is one of the worst. They once told me that they had put a lien on my house, even though I don't own a house! Also remember that they can not file a judgement against you or garnish your wages unless they have WON a court case against you first! So they are lying to you!!!Don't answer any calls from them. Also a lot of these rude people that work at these places have run up huge debts themselves

Debt Collector
Investment Retreivers has been harassing me on a credit card debt for months.  I had a credit card debt that I was paying $500.00 per month on regularly for years.  I lost my job in Nov 09 and was out of work for eleven months.  I continued paying my bills thinking I would find employment.  I depleted my savings, got evicted from my house, credit totally ruined with collectors calling me every second of the day.  I was reduced to moving in with a family to care for their home in lieu of a salary...room and board with meals.  I finally got a job and one week into my 90 day probation..."Brandon" with investment retreivers called my cell phone non-stop every five minutes all day long.  I took one of the calls in the ladies room and explained to him that I finally got a job but was on probation and if he didn't stop calling me I would be fired.  He demanded payment arrangements or said he would call my employer and tell them of my debt and discuss my salary and what I was earning and he would decide what my payment would be.  He threatened to fax and call them and tell them of my unpaid debt.  I turned off my cell phone and he began calling the switchboard.  I answered the phone (company) and told him not to call me at work.  My supervisor was sitting with me because I was in training and I asked "Brandon" if he wanted to talk to my supervisor...he then hung up...but the calls continued but not as often.  I was made an example during a business meeting about personal phone calls and personal debts and how they reflected badly on the company.  I was fired from that job on my 90 day evaluation.  I'm certain this harassment had something to do with that.  Investment Retreivers contacted me again and I talked to "Brandon" once again and told him I was without a job again and could not pay.  He told me that  judgement would be filed against me but that I could turn the whole thing around and save my credit rating by making a payment arrangement of $25.00 per mo for 3 months and then at the end of that time re-evaluate and create another arrangement if need be.  I scraped up the money and sent it to him.  He called me and told me he received it but he was wrong that the legal papers were already filed and the judgement would be placed against me and all he could do is note that a payment arrangement had been made.  He sent me a letter to sign promising to pay Investment Retreivers $25.00 per month on $16K.  I don't even owe that much...the dollar amount increased significantly.  I had mowed lawns to earn the money and hurt my back and couldn't do it anymore.  I explained to him that I am a 50 year old single woman and I was dead broke and unemployed.  He asked if my parents or family could pay my debt.  He also found a website online where I have a small service business and he was convinced that cash is rolling in.  I reminded him again that we are in a recession and people don't have money and I hadn't received $ from that service in many months.  I told him that I was sorry but I had nothing to give and that my priority was to survive.  I had a family member die and went out of town with other family members to attend a funeral at which time my father became ill and hospitalized in another city across the country.  I started receiving calls from the family that I was living with...stating that process servers were visiting their house non-stop looking for me posting...notes on their door about suing me.  This family now has asked me to move and now in addition to being unemployed I am now homeless.  Not a very smart way to collect a debt by manipulating and harassing a person out of job and home.  May God help us all...this is what we have been reduced to.

Got a call from this number at work.  Caller said it was Mr. Leon at ext. 234  He stated that he has spoken to payroll and is moving forward on garnishment.  Yes this is a violation and harassment.  I would not call this person back and would make sure that if you do have debts that you work with someone that you trust and who knows the law.  Everyone and their mother is trying to collect debts and many use whatever they can to collect from you.

They called trying to do an "employment verification" but when asked who they were all they would say is they were legally not allowed to give any information beyond the company name.

They are a company called IR, Inc, or otherwise knowns as Investement Retrievers.  A debt collection company found here:
http://www.investment-retrievers.com/index.htm

This should help you to know what they are legally allowed to do or say:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm

If they violate the law, report them to the FCC.

Threatening someone with criminal action on a civil matter such as debt collection is against the law both federally, and in all fifty states.  If they continue to threaten you with such things, you should contact a lawyer and explore your options.  The law is on your side in this case.

Debbie,
These morons are IN violation of the FDCPA for threatening to have you prosecuted:

§ 807.  False or misleading representations  [15 USC 1692e]

A debt collector may not use any false, deceptive, or misleading representation or means in connection with the collection of any debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section:

(4) The representation or implication that nonpayment of any debt will result in the arrest or imprisonment of any person or the seizure, garnishment, attachment, or sale of any property or wages of any person unless such action is lawful and the debt collector or creditor intends to take such action.

(5) The threat to take any action that cannot legally be taken or that is not intended to be taken.

File a complaint against them with the FTC:
