My friend is desperate for a job b/c she is getting divorced and has 3 kids.  She sees the ad on the weekly flyer and falls for it.  All she got was a manuel. No job interview - no list of agencies.  I can't beleive she had to pay $79.99.  She put it on her credit card.  She still has no job and has to find a way to support her kids alone. Was anyone able to recover their money? If so, how?

I found an ad on careerbuilder.com and it was the same thing all you guys have been talking about! The number is 18882937070 and when I called she was being really nice saying I am gauranteed to get a job and since it's gauranteed I would have to pay the same day to recieve the package in 4-6 weeks. She told me it would cost me 69.95!

I stupidly gave my amex number.  Had a bad feeling after I hung up.  10 minutes later I cancelled my amex number.  Fortunatly nothing was put on the card yet.  Feel like a fool.  Should have known better.  I'm an athome Mom and hoped to make extra $$$.  I went and gave those jerks my real address phone and name. Stupid.  Never give out your bank card that attaches all your money to it.  At least I know that much.

This is so funny, yet sad. I am a stay at home mom and with the holidays coming up, I could use some extra income. Whenever I see work from home jobs posted on the web, the majority are a scam; it is rather dissappointing. When I saw this ad, I just had to call, just to find out. You know it is a scam when they don't answer "hello?", just "are you calling about the ad?". I spoke to the Austrailian guy, he was polite and full of it! I really wish there were legitimate work from home jobs. I guess there is no such thing.

I did not call but wanted to research the company before calling and nothing came up on google but the add on yahoo that they posted just today 10/20/2008.
Then I entered the phone number and got onto this site. I am not even going to spend my time calling them.
Thank you all for a great info.

Here we go another scam. I just called the toll free number today. $69 yeah right... I never heard such a thing for a government job. From the last comment we "need jobs, not scams". $69 is a tank of gas for me. If you all out there trying to look for work.. This scam is not it. I've contacted Career Builder & Craigs List to have these scams removed. If you have to pay for a government job don't fall for it.

Thank God I looked up this number! As of 7/11/08, they are still on CareerBuilder under the name of "Standard Publishing, Inc." They are even offering these "government" jobs with benefits! 100% coverage... OMG. They even try to incorporate "Flexi-Place" from the IRS. A work-at-home program for senior employees that isn't working out too well, mind you.

I agree with Carl in Texas: CareerBuilder needs to crack down on all the crap they are spitting into the air! We need jobs, not scams.

I was looking for a part time home base position on Careerbuilder.com.  This is funny, they had a at home position working for the government approving loans, etc.  guess what number it said to call.... 888-611-9333.  Well I googled the number and guess what, it's a scam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I found all this information from other people like all of you.  Career Builder should really take this ad off their site.

I cannot work, due to pregancy complications, so when I saw work from home, I was ecstatic!! I could stop living a crappy life and make money watching my year old son and being lounging around taking it easy, which is what I am supposed to do!! The man, answered the phone and asked if I was calling about the add, he did not say the name of the company or anything, I said yes and he began explaining about howI would come in for one interview and start work that day, but I had to pay for the shipping and handling of over 200 pages worth of job applications and listings of what the job required. Then he said it would be 69.00, and if they were not able to get me a job they would give it back, but he needed a debit or credit card. When I asked why he said to pay for the shipping and handlig, I told him I wanted one job, so I could send him 49 cents for the application, he said that I needed to think about what a great opportunity this was and call him back, and then hung up. Knew it was too good to be true.

I just call there sensing  that it to good to be true, I talk to a rep name amy, she nice and polite and she told that I had to pay 69.00 for the information and once I got the job they would return my money.  I told her I did'nt feel comfortable getting my cc information over the phone. she said it was all safe and reassure that their is not funny business going on.  I asked her were they registered with BBC, I look them up said and they are not rated by BBC. Then I asked for there website or  something I look up but she was not for sure because she was asking someelse about  it while i was on the phone; I told her I will get back to her. good thing I just stumble upon this site.  Please beaware of this people are out to scam anyone they can. Please research everything before make your final decision.

I saw the ad from Standard Publishing on CareerBuilder yesterday and called.  I spoke with a woman who made sure to stress that they were Goverment jobs and how simple it would be.  I asked why would the government charge $69 for an interview and she couldn't answer.  She also told me I could pay the amount later but would hold on while I went to get my card. Sensing a scam, I asked for their mailing address because I prefered to send a money order.  She told me to call back when I had my credit card and hung up!!! I tried researching the company and the phone number, but all I got were sites like this one warning me not to fall for it.

As soon as I heard the guy say "Federal Government" and that the only requirements were that I be over the age of 18, I knew he was full of it.  I gave him a fake address for my info to be sent.  I asked him where the interview location would be in my area, and he began stuttering. He then stated that my $69.95 fee did not have to be paid now, but that he needed my credit card number on file.  I told him I was not comfortable doing that until I received my free info packet, and he ended the call.  This guy is listed on Careerbuilder as "Standard Publishing Inc"  I Googled it and got no other hits.  Why would the "government" use "Standard Publishing Inc" to contact prospective employees?  Be wary - if it looks too good to be true, you KNOW it is!  Trust your gut - not some slick talker on the phone!
If you read this, do everyone a favor and go on careerbuilder and report this scam.  Maybe it will save another struggling single mom from losing money to feed her kids!
