Debt Collector
I got scammed by this company.  They said I owed $2006 to Continental Finance but they would settle for $500.  They said the debt would show paid under Continental Finance and my credit score would go up 10 points.  They took my money and ran.  Their fax number is out of order.  Continental Finance said they sold the loan to Delmarva and that if I paid AG Financial it will not reflect on Continental Finance because I didn't pay them.  So now, how do I find that scamming f _ _ _  President Jim Thomas?

"They are now going by the name AG financial. However these idiots are still using the same address. "

The Corona Scam is probably using over 60 front names by now, with lots of phone numbers and mail drop addresses at UPS Stores scattered around Corona and surrounding cities.  They add a new bunch of names every few months.

".I contacted them and they sent me a settlement letter that stated my wife owed 3600 dollars but they were willing to settle it for 1800. The only problem is the credit card was only 1000 dollar limit. "

No "settlement letter" proves you owe them anything.  It is not validation traceable to the original creditor, so it doesn't even prove they have any right to collect this alleged debt.  You pay some scammer for a debt you don't owe, or even one you owe to the real creditor, you just got poorer and "settled" nothing.  They want "$1800" so they make up a higher amount to make it look like a "good deal" to "settle", even without any proof this "debt" exists or they own it.  That is how you know they are making it up.

"Then they proceeded to tell me how they were going to put a lien on my house and quoted my house payment of her credit report to scare me. "

More illegal threats.  It's basically an extortion racket, aided by purchasing credit reports from Experian.  They pull credit reports, find some old account, then go through this act to scare you into paying them for a faked "debt" that sounds like the old account.

Pulling credit reports to use in fraudulent schemes is a felony under state and federal law.

Contact FTC.  There are some reports they are being investigated.

These same guys contacted my sister looking for my wife. They are now going by the name AG financial. However these idiots are still using the same address.  I contacted them and they sent me a settlement letter that stated my wife owed 3600 dollars but they were willing to settle it for 1800. The only problem is the credit card was only 1000 dollar limit.  They went on to play their car salesman game acting like my wife had a court date pending.  Then they proceeded to tell me how they were going to put a lien on my house and quoted my house payment of her credit report to scare me.  You cannot arrest someone or put a lien on the house for unsecured debt.  These guys are idiots and a scam but I had fun playing the victim role with them for a day.

For a car its $1000 in value ....for a home i believe they just put a lein against it if you havent paid off the mortgage. Just googel alot of your stuff you need to know about judgements on credit cards on such and you should be able to find what you need to know. I also know that some of them dont serve you and state to the court that they have. A judgement can last up to ten years depending on your state and they can get a judgement and then not do anything and them pop uo nine years later and get what they can. I am upside down on my mortgage so i dont have to worry about that and also there is something called a homestead clause which is in your favor for a certain amount of $. Im worried they could take my car which is fair market value of maybe 4K,,,but my county assess it at 2535.00 in value which means they cound still take it...I think!!

Hi,

I was reading these posts and let me tell you eventually they will serve you. I dont know when they will but I now have orchard bank credit card that I havent paid on for 2 years and I owe some $700 and with legal fees its up to 1150.00. It has now gone to a lawyers office and I did look it up on the internet and they have filed suit against me and then I checked a week later and now they have issued a summons for me. Alot of people dont know that they can check this out on the internet. I live in missouri . On google I just type in casenet missouri and then i click on the first one listed and then it shows a picture of a person(with not an actual picture) and it says litigants name and you click on that and it will take you to another page where all you need to do is put in your first,,,last...middle name and then click find. Anything in the state of missouri that they have on you will show up on there. My divorce way back in 1994 shows up on there. But that is how I found out someone was suing me and the court issued a summons for me to show up in court. If I dont show up in court they will have a default judgement and I guess let them have what they are asking for. I am showing up in court since it did finally show a court date on there yesterday. I believe these credit card companys and collection people dont think you will show up and they can put a lein on your home and take your car if it is worth more than $1000 in missouri and sell it.

definition of shilling - a shiller is one who reasons an illogical answer to two logical statements. Example: a tree is alive and a frog is alive, therefore a frog must be a tree. So a shiller presumes: a person receives a debt collection call and goes to a website to search said call, therefore the caller must owe debt.

"The guy on the phone somehow new I had just bought a new car and what I pay for it! "

Many consumer complaints have indicated they pull credit reports to obtain information to use in the scam.  If you recently financed a car purchase, that loan would show up on your credit report, including the lender, the amount of the loan, the starting loan date, as well as your monthly payments.

Knowing you have "great credit" you clearly would like to maintain, and are financeable on a car loan, they know you are a perfect target for this "con", as you can be threatened to pay to protect your credit, and you can get the money to pay them off.

They are using your own credit report information to deceive you.

There have been clues visible across some of the complaints regarding where they are getting their information.

The large subset of complaints reporting that they are attempting to collect on unowed, nonexistent "debts", using threats of equally nonexistent "lawsuits", argues against any real creditor supplied data in these cases.  This (and the supporting deceptions, like "process server" calls, "arrest" threats, etc.) are the major aspects that separate this scheme from normal debt collection complaints.

Many complaints have reported recent credit inquiries were found on credit reports shortly before the harassing calls started.  Some people have received notifications from their credit monitoring services just before receiving calls.  Although many are reporting recent credit inquiries, sometimes by 2 or more "Corona cluster" LLCs, consumer complaints are not reporting actual collection account tradelines from this "debt collector".

A number of complaints have reported attempts to collect "debts" allegedly owed to past creditors, but with "erroneous" account information.  This also is consistent with attempting to use limited credit report descriptions of old accounts to fake "debts".

One consumer reported they believed their information was traceable to court documents, due to a name error only present in that source.  In some jurisdictions, court documents might be available on-line.

One complaint reported a possible connection to an on-line "auto insurance" application.  Indian fake "debt collector" scams have used fake "payday loan" sites to snare consumer information for years.

Many complaints have indicated that the first contact call, by the alleged "process server", was to a relative.  Since credit reports generally do not contain relative name, address, or phone information, this would indicate obtaining relative information, either through skip-trace, or just on-line "people search" sites, as an integral part of the scheme.

All credible complaints reporting requests for information have reported that either validation was refused, with various excuses, that the scammer claimed it would be provided after payment, or that some "settlement letter" was emailed instead, with no proof traceable to any original creditor.  They appear to be avoiding the U.S. mail, preferring instead email or fax, if they provide anything in writing at all.  This also separates these complaints from normal debt collection practice and complaints, which usually show at least some validation responses.

The "shill" posts attempt to counter the picture painted above by actual complaints.  They attempt to play up the costs of getting "sued", claim that the FDCPA "g" letter was received, claim that proof of the "debt" was provided, or that it supposedly matched credit report information, They also misrepresent the benefits of paying, such as supposedly improving credit scores so much that they could "buy a house",.

The above profile shows a focus on obtaining consumer information from a variety of sources, that can then be used to fake the appearance of a "debt".  In particular, it shows a bias toward obtaining information from on-line sources, with many reports arguing against access to real creditor account information.

The information obtained might be just employer or relative information, usable in the "process server" phase of the scheme, or other credit information usable either to determine whether old accounts might be claimed, or to estimate what the target might be taken for.  Either could be woven into the con when you call back, adjusting the script based on whatever the consumer might believe the unknown "debt" might be related to.  Social or business networking site information would complement information from credit files, or might serve as an initial screen to identify likely targets, whose credit files can then be pulled to obtain more specific information to assist in the con.

True statement, but irrelevant.

"This company can and will provide the dirt bag debtor with all of the Account information so they can recount who they owe.  Never has anyone just tried to 'bully' someone out of money.  The agents calling the scumbags blogging here have ALL of the debt information and Always provide it to the morally correct consumers."

No consumer dealing with this scam could know this.
Only supporters of the scam would make this claim, as it furthers their goals.
