Number is not legit at all. It's a scam by someone pretending to be Capital One fraud prevention. The people are posting that it is legit are either rubes or part of the scam.

I don't have a Capital One credit card, nor have I ever bought acai berry or anything like that. It looks to me as if this number is purely a scam. The posts here indicating it is not could be scam posts as well to get people to let their guard down.

OK TO PROVE THIS IS NOT LEGIT!  I do not have a capitol one card(never have, never will), yet i get calls from this number at least 3 times a day.

This is not a Capital One number.  It's an attempt at ID theft or a bill collector.

I also had fraud on my card and started receiving calls from this number. Thank goodness for this forum or I may have fallen for it. This is NOT Capital One. I JUST called them and they said it's not their number and they have not tried to reach me. They suggested when someone claiming to be from Capital One calls, ask for their employee ID number, they only have one format of employee ID numbers at their company.

They really need to shut down this number. DON'T ANSWER IT and call the number on the back of your Capital One Card! .. AND if it was that important they'd LEAVE A MESSAGE! These people just call and call.. how annoying !!!

I got two calls from these people, no voicemail. I THINK THIS IS FRAUDULENT. I filed a fraud claim with Capital One just a few days ago and these people are already calling me!  I filled out my fraud details online so there is NO REASON FOR ANYONE to call me. If they were really Capital One, why didn't they leave a message!!

I called Capital One fraud unit  today--- IT IS NOT THEM. This is a fradulent attempt to gain information. I too had a recent fraud attempt on my "old" card a month ago. They do not leave a message-but call many times per day and into the evening. Capital One advises that cardholders will only be contacted IN WRITING by Capital One fraud unit.

I purchased a 'free' trial of Acai berry months ago & had to fight & fight to get my money back once they charged me the recurring monthly fee of $89.95 (after I cancelled within the cancellation period).
I received an email back in May stating 'Thank you for joining' some BS fitness thing I did not join.
The email said i joined back in April & they just charged by card $69.95 & shipped my order'.  I had NOT joined or ordered anything. They charged my card $69.96 and I could not reach these guys (ITech Marketing). I researched this & found it out they were doing this to everyone they had a credit card number for!
This was on my CapitalOne card so I called the fraud Dept & went round and round with them too. Questions like 'what have you done to get this charge reversed' when did I contact I-Tech Mktg to settle this, etc.. Couldn't get the dot head chick to understand it was a BS company fraudulently charging my card for something I did not order. They re-issued me a new card.

Same story as above; card was compromised last week, got issued a new card from Cap One; got this number as two missed calls today (no voicemail). Called Capital One and they said it is NOT from them, so don't give out any info to this number! Just call Cap One with the number on the back of your card with any questions.

I did a *67 and then called the number.  It said it was Capital One fraud prevention. They gave me another number to call to talk them. I did have fraudulent activity on my credit card.  This number is legit.

i just got 2 calls from that number they didn't leave a message, i called it back and it didn't ask for any of my info, just told me to call this other number for the claim i made a couple days ago.

I did have card fraud on my account, but when I talked with capital one they said the issue was resolved. This is the second number that has tried to get my personal information. DO NOT RESPOND!

I just talked with CapitalOne Fraud Department.  It is NOT legit.  In fact, they went as far as to say, this was how my identity got stolen in the first place.  Amazing how a week after I cancel my card and get all my money back from CapitalOne, this number starts calling.... Bet they tried to use the card and it no longer worked, so they thought they'd dupe me again... pwn'd suckas.

You cannot block your phone number by *67 ing when dialing a toll free number. The phone companies allow them to see who is calling because they are paying for the call.

They knew who you were when you called. Don't fall for it being legit...it is not.

I am getting this 1-888-618-8906 that is calling my wifes cell phone and hanging up when she picks up and never leaves a message.  I would like to find out who this clown is so I can report them to the BBB and perhaps file a restraining order.

If it is a legit number, then why don't they leave a message? I've been receiving about 8 calls per day on my cell phone with no message.

FRAUD!!  Don't fall for this.   I received automated calls yesterday & today claiming to be Capital One Fraud Protection unit in regard to a recent fraud claim on my account. (Which I recently had)  It began by stating my name press 1 if correct & then proceeded to request other personal info.  I hung up at that point & called Capital One.  They checked my records & theirs & verified Capital One did NOT make the call.

I had a call from this company - They are legit they had all my info - the claim - what took place on the claim and its progress..

Nope, just talked to capital one... NOT a number from Capital One... even though my card was recently compromised. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFO.

I receive call from this number to my cell phone at least 2-3 times per day.

I received a call today from 1-888-618-8906 and it is an automated call from capital one fraud checking to see if i received forms in the mail from them.  It was all legitamit

ITS FRAUD, DON'T CALL IT BACK. DEFINATELY NOT CAPITOL ONE. I JUST GOT HIT, AS SOON AS I HAD EVERYTHING CLEARED AND UNDER CONTROL THEY STARTED CALLING MY OLD NUMBER, NOT EVEN THE ONE IN THE CAPITAL ONE SYSTEM. I HAD CHANGED MY NUMBER AND UPGRADED IT IN THERE SYSTEM. IF IT WAS CAPITAL ONE THEY WOULD HAVE CALLED MY NEW NUMBER. DON'T CALL THEM BACK OR GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION.

Cap One told me it's them.

Just telling me they were mailing the fraud forms were in the mail.

Good grief...Cap One has a lot of fraud.  Their system must be easy to manipulate.  Makes me wonder if I want to continue to do business with them.

I recently made a purchase for gas and when I received my Capital One statement, there were numerous charges for phone cards not made by me. Capital One issued me a new card etc. I get calls from this number at least 5 times per day and they are not from Capital One.

Definitely a fraud.  I had some fraudulent charges on a credit card (which Capital One thankfully reimbursed!), changed my credit card number, and have gotten 7 phone calls (no voicemails though...) in the past 4-5 days from these guys.  DEFINITELY NOT THE REAL CAPITAL ONE (whose *only* legit fraud protection number is a 1-800 number.)

I received call from 1-888-618-8906. My card was used by someone else. Capitalone opened new account. So, looks like, this number is valid and Capital One is trying to contact you regarding fraud on card.
