100% SCAM!!! THE SCAMMERS ARE POSTING HERE TOO!!!! BE CAREFUL!!!!!
Obviously, the scam # knows about the fraudulent activities... they are the ones who posted them. They use it to verify that they know information about your account, and make you feel they are credible Do not give any info to them. I called WAMU and they do not have that # in their system. THIS PHONE # IS NOT CREDIBLE... THERE ARE FAKE POSTS HERE TO BUILD UP ITS CREDIBILITY AND TO CONFUSE THE UNKNOWING VICTIM.

They said that they were from WAMU and that someone had tried to make a purchase online with my debt card for an escort service.
jason 2011-06-06 21:05:52 Unknown
dont give out your info on the an incoming call ever.... the number seemed to be legit... but i hung up and called wamu... they said the fraud dept DID call me.. and that there was fraud... BUT NEVER give out your info ever... call them directly.
Erin 2011-06-06 21:05:52 Unknown
I would say don't answer the call, but do call WAMU if you see this number show up on your display. The calls will always be automated and you can tell by the time of the calls (they are always an exact amount of time apart from each other). Obviously there are some crossed wires about whether or not this is a WAMU number; but, it is some sort of third-party fraud prevention. AS the person above said, don't give out your personal info over a phone, but DO SOME INVESTIGATING if you see this number call you. It's probably for good reason. BTW, WAMU *always* says their number is 800-788-7000, they actually have several customer service and fraud lines that they never tell you about until something bad happens. :( I found out the hard way this month.

i am currently waiting for a HUMAN to answer my call (1-866-777-0308) and im waiting for ! full hour! BLOODY HELL! WAMU SUCKS!
Lindsay 2011-06-06 21:05:52 Unknown
not a scam at least for me... i called them back, they found fraud charges on my account, helped me cancel my card and order a new one. called WAMU directly, all of this was verified that there was fraud and that a new card had been requested. if it was a phishing call they wouldnt have been able to make actual changed on my account.

My experience was about the same as eveyone elses. I spoke to a supervisor from "Falcon" and she was very intelligent and assuring. I still didn't call back. I called WAMU and they had no idea what was going on. The only advice I can offer is #1: Never call the number back directly. Always call the number on the back of the card. If they don't have a record of it, then you're OK as far as they are concerned. #2: Make sure you are calling the correct WAMU number. The reason I say this is because (VERY IMPORTANT) WAMU has debit/credit cards for your checking type accounts and WAMU also has regular WAMU credit cards that function like your traditional credit cards from Discover or American Express. The kind with a credit limit! Make sure you call the right WAMU number because these two entities are not linked even though they are under the same umbrella. I have both kinds of card. Been there, done that.

Got several calls from this number this morning did not answer as it was out of area and do not answer those type of calls. After reading the posts I did call Wamu talked to the people in credit card fraud and they transfered me to debit card fraud. There was a transaction that they questioned because it was an unusual company for me. My card was disabled at the time which I was unaware of. They were very polite and all I had to do was confirm the last two uses of the card. I did ask them about this number and they also confirmed that it was legit that they do call to notify of a questionable transaction.

Got a call from the Scammer this morning at 10:13am pst. The automated call said my full name and last 4 digits of my bank card number. The auto caller asked for my DOB and went on to explain there was an unauthorized request from a gas station in Tacoma the address was 7202 6th Ave.
The call continued on to ask if this was a legitimate charge or not...Washington Mutual always has a live person when calling about fraud or they leave a legitimate number to call back.
While I was at the bank the banker called the toll free number and got a live person. Hmmm, I wonder if they would like to give us their personal information and be scammed themselves since they are trying to steal other peoples money....I closed my account ten minutes after the incident occurred.

This is a real call, but what bothers me is that it has such a long pause, for the last few days I got the calls, picked up..silence..silence..then when they finally answered I was bugged and made up fake language and hung up on them. Then again today they called so I waited..sure enough it was real. Called WAMU itself to verify number and they said that the fraud department HAS to use the automated system.
So was glad it was real, but wish it could identify better -
sdale 2011-06-06 21:05:52 Unknown
This is NOT REAL. People posting saying that it is likely work for the scammers. They called me twice, I did not answer either time, and I called WaMu myself. This is NOT ONE OF THEIR NUMBERS.
Rabbit Dale 2011-06-06 21:05:52 Unknown
Yes, 888-671-8468 IS a real number of a REAL fraud prevention company that really does contract with several banks, etc. It is automated also... HOWEVER, just remember that there are ways to send a false Caller ID through so that it looks like it is from this legit number, when is could be a scammer.. Just look up "fake caller id" or "spoof caller id" in google and see the hits you get. Just my 2 cents.

received a message from this number [888-671-8468} identifying the call as from WAMU Fraud department. I returned the call and was on hold for a while and then told to call 866-777-8632. I opted to call WAMU customer service directly instead. After the usual bounce around the "press 1" ,etc, I finally spoke with a live person. He verified that I was called by the Fraud department and transferred me to them. There, in fact, were two charges on my account using my debit card number which I had not made. These charges were for online purchases and my debit number was keyed in by hand. I was asked if I had let someone use my account or given my number on the phone for an order, which I had not. The claim was prepared and I was given a claim number, advised that I would receive an affidavit that I must sign and return. In the meantime, the charges would be reversed. One charge was pending and I must call them to add it to the claim if it goes through. I was given a direct line to the Fraud department which is 866-362-1238. WAMU has also cancelled my debit card and is issuing a new one. Hope this helps everyone!
George 2011-06-06 21:05:52 Unknown
WAMU are a bunch of idiots. No wonder Chase had to bail them out. Yes, the numbr is LEGIT for all those folks claiming otherwise... If you have the patience and stupid enough, as I was, to go through the automated hell they call customer service, you will eventually end up confirming the phone number is a real number from the Fraud Department. It wasted much of my time with those morons...

The 8886718468 number is legitimated.
First of all and to answer to many of the unhappy people in this thread I would like to make them remember this is WAMU and not a conventional bank as we all know. Fees are among the lowest for checking account and that should just make us all happy enough to have a service like this at a very low cost. Of course the service is very low but I know what I am getting.
My story with this number is the following: I was booking flights in Asia on a low cost company and had to use my Mastercard debit card several time in a row until it got declined by the website.
It was around 3 am and I was not ready to go through the customer service to check what went wrong after my first flight purchase. I used another card this time Mastercard credit from Capital one that allowed me to book the other flights I wanted to purchase.
Later in the morning after I went to sleep my phone rang and I did not answer. When I finally woke up I checked the number, and Googled it and found this thread. I then tried to use again my debit card but no success.
I called the number to verify what it was. I answer the birthday question and the 4 last digits of the debit card and that's it. Then the automatic voice asked me if I purchase flight ticket at the airline vendor website and I confirmed I did. Then they authorized my card to be used again automatically. The call took me less than 5 minutes, no wait at all, directly went through this short process.
I then quickly tested my card on the same website to book my last flight and the card worked right away. I just regret they did not call me before so I can charge my debit card and not increase my credit card charges.
So yes it is a weird number, for a weird bank. WAMU is weird but I like it as it is. Bail out or not WAMU is not to blame here but the so bad laws our senates allowed the last past 8 years, we will see what CHASE will do of the assets and debts but WAMU is my bank and for now I do not want to change it.
Peace for all.

This was a legitimate call for me too. Even after reading the comments I was skeptical because I had my card in hand, so I did call customer service directly and they confirmed the "unusual activity". It did take a little while, but I did not have the problems getting through that some callers seemed to have. The 866-777-8632 number that they gave me was probably fine, although I did end up connecting through customer service.

I got a call from this number and it was fraud alert and my account was being used. I got back 400.00 dollars that was scammed from account.
Michelle 2011-06-06 21:05:52 Unknown
This is a legitimate call and actually very nice to have them watching out for us. We've followed up on several of these calls and they are always LEGIT!
Anonymous Wamu employee 2011-06-06 21:05:52 Unknown
These calls are a scam if they say they are from this number. FirstData/Falcon are PROGRAMS the bank uses to detect suspicious activity, NOT a vendor as they say when you call them (and I did, and they were unable to verify vital sucurity codes that identify wamu or its affiliates).
Unfortunately, there is nothing WaMu can do other than file complaints w/ FCC & FBI (which they have).

ANSWER THIS CALL!
Some a**holes in FL and VA were using my card for purchases in the HUNDREDS at Wal-Mart...
WAMU spotted it and stopped the FRAUD. They are issuing me a new card.
Do not ignore this call. They are trying to HELP YOU!
me 2011-06-06 21:05:52 Unknown
This does seem legit - from WaMu - or Chase. We got 2 automated calls from them, and instead of calling back, I went online and checked our account activity. There were indeed 2 fraudulent charges. We called Chase directly and eventually got through to the fraud department. We cancelled the card and need to call back after the charges officially post. This is a weird way of doing business, but in this case, it worked out. I probably wouldn't have checked our account online for another week, and who knows how much more we could have had stolen if I had waited??? I think I'd still recommend calling the bank directly instead of calling this third party number, though. You can never be too sure.

DEFINITELY WAMU/CHASE. Phew! That's a sigh of relief! Just got off the phone with a wamu rep. she said it was all good...

My friend just got a call within the past hour from 888-671-8468. IT WAS NOT AUTOMATED. These people said there was some kind of hold on a transaction and asked for verification. He gave them ALL his information, and was instantly hung up on afterward. I hurried and got the fraud alert number while he put a freeze on his accounts. He then placed fraud alert on his credit. He does not have Washington Mutual accounts. He realizes it wasn't smart to give his info to anyone. Apparently this scam must be working on lots of people cause it's been going on for some time.

Caller ID: 888-671-8468
Caller: WAMU Fraud Dept.
This number IS VALID! This is a valid number for Wamu/Chase fraud unit. Fradulent activity on my account was confirmed to the tune of 325 bucks.
Aaron 2011-06-06 21:05:52 Unknown
Yes, it's an automated call from a company that WAMU contracts for fraud prevention. Don't freak out about it. The customer service sucks. Just hang up and call the number on the back of your WAMU card. They'll verify the activity on your account. Sheesh.
Camden 2011-06-06 21:05:52 Unknown
Called @ 3:25pm on 2/25/09 Did not answer
Fetzel 2011-06-06 21:05:52 Unknown
Kept calling all day. When I answered, all I had was silence. Don't know what they want from me. I don't have and never had a WaMu account. I hope the b******s stop calling
Judith Smallwood 2011-06-06 21:05:52 Unknown
Said I had excessive activity on my WaMu Master card. I cannot discover who they are and refused to call.
