mysterious $14.95 charge on my chase debit card!! what gives?
Irene 2010-01-15 17:54:28 Unknown
we've been charged $14.95 since summer of 09 and didn't catch it until a few months later. Our fault. We called our credit card company (BA) and they tried calling the number they had listed and it was an automated system that didn't get you anywhere. Another number was invalid.
The credit company would only refund us the last 2 months though and said we would have to dispute every single month we received this charge.
We were just charged again and I found this link. The 888-672-4182 number worked and "Josh" will close my account and said it was probably an online 10 day promotion we signed up for. I told him we haven't used this card for anything for a year, so that was crap.

The scammers charged me 7 transactions under different company description names like investoo, directoo, direct investor news. I only realized these charges now and I had never authorized these charges. I called and after serval calles were deliberately cut by them I got thro and when I complained that I had never ever signed up with them the guy answering my call said he believes me. what the hell is going on here. THE CC company is not helping saying they have no way to dispute charges if the other company is responding

i just spotted 2 charges for 26th and 27th December, both for $9.21. called the number and was told I had made a telephone purchase from direct investor news which I definitley did not do. my bank has now cancelled my card and are investigating this situation. Customer service lady said they do more of these small amounts over the holiday period as people are less likely to question/notice them then.

This is the second time i got charge, the first was $14.95 and now this one $9.21, the number i called is 1-866-923-0106 and no one ever answers the phone!!

I've been charged $49.95 for 8 months AND $14.95 for a so called magazine for 3 months. I called and they were sooo shady. They said they'd reverse all the magazine fees but only 2 of the 49 dollar fees unless I wrote a letter to them asking for it. They couldn't even tell me how I got signed up for it. They said maybe I was buying a car or a house. Not true. I bought my car from my parents and rent an apartment. I never even looked for a car or house on the internet. Scum!

Alright. I stopped another auto bill on my BofA card for 15.00/month (a legitimate one from Blockbuster) and at the same time this 14.95 charge started happening. I never use this card but for my AOL, an old Verizon bill, used to be on Classmates.com, AND THAT is IT. Any commonality out there?
14.95 has now added two more charges at PROFITABLE and SAVERSLIMIT. Time to close the card!
kbg 2009-10-05 22:19:19 Unknown
Yep, got two charges last month. When i called the number on my statement, they told me that they had actually charged me 4 times. lets see if i get my money back.

8886724182 DIRECT00 OF 00(Services and Merchandise) 14.95 started in Jan after I cancelled this one: 8886719367 PROPERTYINVE OREM UT 49.95. I don't know if they are related. I have to keep a close eye on my account since DH is using it and goes on business. I was able to get 5 mnths back, but I am unable where this charges are orignating from. I will post further if anything else comes up.
Pat 2009-08-05 14:02:02 Unknown
Spoke w/my cc company. Charges on card from Jan, not just past 3 months. Will call again to assure credit is issued to account for all 7 months. Suggest everyone double check for charges & report to BBB. Aslo, ask which web page visited resulted in charfges & if you are told news is 'e-mailed' to you, ask what yur e-mail address is if you have never received anything.

I disputed charges of $14.95 for May, June, July '09 with my credit card company & was told it is an automatic charge so I would have to dispute/canel with vendor. I called 888-672-4182, spoke with customer rep Jason & requested full refund & cancellation. He said I could expect refund on card by end of week (8/7). He said I signed up when I visited a web site 'promotion' & gave permission for the charged. I did no such thing. Apparently they somehow 'grab' information without the users knowledge. He also said that 'news' comes in e-mail (never received any e-mails from them!) Big scam! I also reported this to the BBB. Would suggest everyone do the same. Also, vendor is being investigated by a law firm: Green & Pagano LLP 522 Route 18 North East Brunswick, NJ 08816
Phone: 732-390-0480.

I'm having the same problem with 3 charges of $14.95 to my debit card that I used for RealtyTrac.com 2-3 years. I just spoke to DirectInvestorNews @ 888-672-4182 to have the unauthorized charges refunded back to my account. I was told the money will be back in my account within 48-72 hours. If not, I will let Chase handle the dispute.
Momma G 2009-08-01 04:20:54 Unknown
I received the same thing. 2 charges for $14.95 on a credit card in my name only to my old address that I have NEVER signed up for. I am reporting them to the BBB & cancelling the credit card tomorrow.
Robert 2009-07-29 20:25:52 Unknown
The same thing happened to me. Got charged twice but they will refund those charges. A few years ago I've used the credit card for www.realtytrac.com for 2-3 month subscription. Not sure if they're the culprit but they are the only realty business that I've used my credit on. Not sure if anyone else used them also.

I was charged $14.95 June 25, 2009 and July 22, 2009. I just called and they said it is for Direct Investor News. I know I did not sign up for that and they had an old email address for me. The woman told me they can refund up to two charges so she is refunding me both charges.

What a "coincidence" we had 14.95 charged in June and July on our CitiBusiness Platinum Select Card too!
eternitus 2009-07-24 16:08:57 Unknown
Got the same charge twice. What the heck is this?
Drew 2009-07-18 16:52:42 Unknown
I got charged 14.95 on a CitiBank card that I did not know I had. The charge was posted with an id of INV00 of 00 and also listed another number 777-6249165 which could be another phone number.
Rahul 2009-07-12 00:56:38 Unknown
They charge $14.95 on my credit card on 6/22/09, I just called my bank and they will give me new card with new number and credit for that amount.
Richard 2009-07-10 01:50:35 Unknown
You should send an email to support@directinvestornews.com asking for canceling the service. They will refund you the money; that's how I got mine :D
mike 2009-06-26 01:39:08 Unknown
Same thing. $14.95 charge on my debit card. Didn't sign up for anything either. Going to dispute the charge through my bank, get my money returned and see if they can block all future transactions from this so called "merchant". How many people do they screw that don't even catch the transaction? SCAM. Hopefully they will be in court real soon trying to explain....
john michigan 2009-06-25 15:58:29 Unknown
Absolute crooks!!!!! Took 14.95 out of an account I haven't used in over 2 years. They said that I signed up through a promotion, even if I did I did not physically input my routing and account number for an inactive account. I spent 20 minutes screaming on the phone and the best I heard from a manager is "relax even if we did steal from you, we gave you a refund." He also went on to explain that the bounced check fee was not his responsibility because I authorized it. Please call the BBB and report these thieves.

They got me 2 months ago, my credit card company refunded the money. Just opened the bill today and got another charge. Was able to get it refunded from the credit card company again. Funny thing this card has been in a safe for over a year. I only use it to do balance transfers that i iniate over the phone with the credit card company directly

I have the same problem and I think this company may have bought the records from Property Investor magazine??? They tried charging me after cancel over 2 years ago. I had Capital 1 remove the charge because I was on hold several times over 20 minutes and then it would hang up with a busy signal. The charge was oput back on the same day it was taken off then they charged another monthly fee. I have reported them to the fraud department for investegation and had Cap1 issue a new card.
