Received "the call" this afternoon. Unfortunately the caller ID read out Private Number which is what happens when my in-laws call the house
The guy sounded legit and his accent was Hindi
My computer has been running slowly and I recently did get a virus which I removed then installed some ver robust anti-virus sw
Anyway, he was convincing until he asked me if there was a Walmart or Best Buy close because I would need to buy se software to "fix" my problem which was from downloading infected files
I had my iPhone nearby and checked out Micro Tech Support and discovered the scam threads
I immediately shut down my computer and transported it to a shop I use for PC issues
The numbers I have for these guys are
855-593-3163 and 239-247-5552
Filing a report with the FCC now as well as blocking all of the numbers mentioned

"Eddie Brown" from Houston, yeah right, he's from India, that says he works for Microsoft. He said that my computer is sending them information that my computer has virus' and malicious malware. I told him 3 or 4 times that I'm not having any trouble. He finally hung up on me. I've had this type of call before, but after I told him that I'm not having any trouble with my computer, the mother f****r had the nerve to ask my why I'm wasting his time then. I told him, hey you called me, but before I can finish exactly what I wanted to tell the little piece of s***, he hung up on me. If you read this, you a***ole, F*** OFF AND DIE!!!

It's a scam.  When the guy told me his name was Joe.  I wanted to tell him that there is not one person in India named Joe.  He told me there was something wrong with my computer.  I knew there wasn't but I played along.  He told me to go to a support web site and click on it.  Just below the site that he wanted me to click on, there was another site  saying it was a scam.  So I told the guy it was a scam and then I also told him what I thought of his Mama . . . Mean, but I thought that he deserved someone to be mean to him since he tries to scam people.  Never give out information to anyone or access to anyone on the phone unless YOU have called them.

Sorry catmom it is not the NSA (or the Gov) leaking your data. Scam artist are very cleaver in finding information about you (its not really that hard these days). I've been getting the same calls and all of my machines are MAC's.  They won't stop either and they're dumber than a door knob (they don't even know what a MAC is).  The guy that called me the night before last even sounded drunk.  They all have asian accents?..MicroSoft tells me they won't give up (as if we already don't know that one) and they can be very mean (tell us about it).  According to MicroSoft they are calling though VOIP phones where they can't seem to track them down.  They also stated that if you let them into your computer they will hold your computer ransom until you pay them some $$$.  MicroSoft also said that the only thing you can do is get really nasty with them.  Unfortunately I don't like to get that way on purpose where I did like your suggestion regarding the "Police Whistle"?.Better yet, what about using a fog horn into the phone??

Same thing as everyone else, only it was a female with a heavy accent; however, she did not mention a company name. Time was around 1 PM today and was the third time they called. This time I wanted to stop the calls because I work from home and was in the middle of a conference call; definitely not happy to be interrupted.

I'm and engineer & technology is stock and trade... it became clear quickly that this was not on the level. Which computer? Yours, she said. I have several... which one? The one you are using. Okay... right... tell me more...

She said to press Windows key + R and run an program. I asked what program so I could check it out and verify what she wanted me to do. <CLICK> was the sound of her hanging up. Definitely a scam. Call came from 888-681-6925 and is not available when dialed back. Everyone please pass the word and avoid this SCAM.

Received a call at 4:30 PM.  Same old microsoft scam.  Gave me an anglicized name.  Had  a strong  Indian accent saying he was from "microsoft"  technical department. So I started talking back to him  in a Pakistani/Hindi accent.  He said he was in Texas, I said no, and told him he was in India.  Played around with him for a while, told him I could hear Hindi voices in the background. Kept asking him how could he tell I had something wrong with my computer and the computer NOT tell me.  He then started the same old line about how my computer somehow broadcasts error messages when I go online, to some mythical giant server only he has access too. I finally told him it was all so much rubbish.   So he said, "have a good day" and then hung up.

Just (2:30 PST) had a call from this number. Caller ID shows it as a "Toll Free Call" -- remarkably helpful, no? Back when I was dumb (about a year ago), I picked up a call like this (I don't remember the number) and got the spiel about how horribly corrupted and messed up my computer was. News to me. Next time they call, I'm going to pick up and speak Russian to them. Then I'm going to yell like a very upset Russian person; and they yell very loud.

I received a call from 1  888 6816925 saying the caller was receiving error reports that my computer had been downloaded with some corrupt and malicious files which hamper performance.

I have an ipad, and he asked me to find the control key on my keyboard , which of course iPads do no t have.  He asked for my name which I refused to give.  I said I was not comfortable with this and hung up...called apple support who confirmed it was a scam.

They're at it again. Same number. Indian by his accent. I picked up and said nothing. He started talking anyway, and the very WORST thing was having this guy say: "I am speaking to -------- --------, is that right?" And it IS my name, although badly mispronounced, it was still MY NAME!
How the bloody ---- do they get MY NAME??? I said nothing, but then did the police whistle routine, and then he was gone. But I am VERY concerned about his use of my NAME!
Maybe it's the NSA spying bit and scammers have gotten into it.

BE VERY CAREFUL, PEOPLE - THIS IS REALLY BAD NEWS!

Received a call at 4:04 PM.  Same old microsoft scam.  Guy with a strong  Indian accent saying he was from "microsoft"  technical department.  Tried to tell me I had a "wirus".  Said his name was Sam Pierson.   Right. I asked him how is it that people from India now have anglicized names?   He didn't like that.   I told him that he was a scammer from India and that I recognized his voice and that he had been recorded and his scam was on YouTube. I told him to go on YouTube and enter "microsoft scam" and he could his his own voice recorded.   I haven't yet got my recording equipment, but they are sure to call again and I'll record it and put it up on Youtube.

Jeezuz H. Christ, these guys don't give up .   There must be 500 videos on Youtube.  How successful IS this scam?

Man with strong Indian accent called from 888-681-6925, said he was from Microsoft Tech Support and that they had received messages from my computer that it contained corrupted files.  He asked if I had Windows 7 operating system, wanted me to press the Control, Microsoft and some other key and enter something.   I asked him to confirm who he was, how he got my telephone number, how he knew anything about my computer.  He was indignant that I was asking these questions, said he wasn't trying to sell anything, just wanted to "help" me fix my computer.  There is nothing wrong with my computer and I knew that.  Told him not to call this number again.  Microsoft does not call people or attempt to fix their computers unsolicited.  It was a scam.

Received the same call that was described by so many.others - Microsoft tech with Indian accent.
We get so many of these scam calls that I NEVER answer the phone and question why we are paying for a land line that we don't use!  I answered this today because I was in the  basement and that phone doesn't have caller ID. He mispronounced my name, but sounded convincing, said he would call me back at 4:00 tomorrow.
I'll be more than ready for his call!!

I'm glad I checked this website again.  I didn't realize that ALEX SMITH with a 212 exchange is part of this scam.  We've gotten TONS of calls from that number!

888-681-6925 was on my caller ID. I called it back using *67 to hide my ID - BUT the had my number anyhow and called me back when I hung up on them. The person calling me had a heavy accent, like Indian, and I could not even understand him. I asked how he got my number and he said that the computer sent Microsoft an error message and he asked if my computer was running slow. I hung up on him.

Microsoft Tech support.........yes he actually said that!  Asked leading questions (in very hesitant English) such as "you are running Microsoft product, correct?", "your computer is very slow, correct?", etc. AND, in case I didn't know  "every computer has a unique IP address".  He "offered" to help me by logging in to my computer to "fix" the issue of all the viruses I have downloaded. He wasn't going to ask me for any $$.   I listened to his "pitch" then informed him that I was in tech support, majored in computer science and "KNEW" what he was trying to do!  LOL  He hung up!
