Government Actions
The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.

June 6, 2012, the West Virginia Attorney General announced settlements with Frontier Financial Group and four other debt collection agencies, netting more than $700,000 for state consumers.
Under the agreements, the companies are required to pay a total of $772,286 in refunds and cancelled debts to settle charges that they engaged in unlawful debt collection in West Virginia.

In 2005, the Attorney General began investigating the companies after receiving complaints that four of them were not licensed in West Virginia and that all five were unlawfully collecting illegal internet payday loans and charged-off credit card debts.

Further investigation disclosed that Frontier Financial Group was primarily collecting debts for two unlicensed debt buyers also named in the settlements, United Debt Holding and Skutr Financial, also operating illegally in the state of West Virginia.

Additional Information
* Know your rights. Under federal and state law, debt collectors are prohibited from using threats of violence or harm against a person, property or reputation. They cannot threaten to garnish your wages unless they intend to do so, and cannot use phone calls to repeatedly harass you.
* Ask for written proof of your debt. By law, a debt collection agency must provide you with a validation notice within five days of contacting you about the debt.
* Tell the collector in writing to stop contacting you. Under federal law, a debt collector cannot continue to contact you - at work or home - once you have told them in writing to stop.
* If you have a complaint, you can file with your state's attorney general, the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov) or the BBB.
* Check out a company's BBB Business Review by going to www.bbb.org or by calling 702-320-4500.

Well. They are most likely a legitimate debt collection agency although their tactics are highly questionable. First I received a call from a man that made himself sound like he was a court processor and getting ready to serve me papers, unless, of course, I was going to call xyz and put a "stop process" on the papers. His message concluded with "consider yourself served." That statement alone commands fear and most would be prompted to immediately call the number left on the message. First of all, it is illegal for a Debt Collection Agency and their representatives to make it appear that their intent is prompted by an official court order or that they are officials i.e. the Sheriff or to remotely utter a threat or use intimidating methods. Although creative, illegal! About a week later I received a message that indicated that my file was being processed for an Audit and I was given graciously 24 hours to call back and state "my side of the story." That alone indicates unprofessional conduct. No Auditor would "call" you to ask about your side of the story. There are only two types of Auditors, the IRS and your Accountant. You have to know the Debt Collection Law to not be intimidated by these aggressive methods of some Debt Collection Agencies. Especially of those agencies who purchase bad debt. Most of that debt cannot be verified in the first place so the minute you respond, you basically own up to the fact that you indeed owe the debt and the Statute of Limitation starts to count from that moment on. Not that I condone not repaying a debt BUTmany people forget that sometimes bad things happen to good people and if a debt is indeed collected, due process has to be followed within the scope of the law. To use intimidating and threating methods is despicable and does not deserve a response at the very least.

Recieved a call from this number saying they was with Frontier Financial Group. Said they was sold the account, that I needed an attorney. while typing this the same person called again. I said "are you really going to call a second time after hanging up on me? He said we call every number listed I will talk to your husband, bye." In the earlier conversation he stated that he had all rights to look up all my data (job history, earnings...etc). No one has this right if not court ordered or a signed document is present. Do not give this company any information or money. This is not a true company, it is a guy paying for background info through a background company trying to get money. It will not be applied to anything. He is looking at the last company the orginal creditor sold it to. Once the original company does their taxes and writes it off as bad debt, the government gives them credit for it and then they sell to collection company for a low price then that company harrasses you until you at least pay the amount they bought it for. If you check your credit report and contact the last company that had it or contact the original one they will take a lower price and be done with it. this guy with this number is an azzhole and should be arrested but again the government allows this crap to go on.

I received a call from someone named Mark Plain or Swain, it was hard to understand.  He talked fast and his tone was aggressive. He did not state what company he was calling from, he just stated it was in regard o a pending claim number.  He stated that The Interstate Commerce Act prohibits the authorization of the payment rendered and I need to have my attorney contact him immediately.  When I called the number he gave me there was a long hold time with music then the call disconnected. I imagine he was calling for calling for Coyne Trace Services.  Coyne did in fact deduct the payment from my account.  When I set up the payment with Coyne I was told I had 2 hours to give them my credit card, debit, or prepaid card for them to be able to stop the "finding process."   I did not think to ask for the documents showing that they were hired by the original creditor and when I called Coyne (877-394-5570 x324) to complain about the continued calls, the extension I dialed was no longer valid.  I contacted my bank and dispute the charges, close out the account and open a new one.  I was also told by the bank to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, which I did online for both the Process Division and Coyne.

Fellow called and left VM saying they had been trying to reach me. (I never answer calls from numbers that I do not recognize....why bother?) Also said something about their legal group wanting to follow up on a matter or somesuch. Said he was from Frontier Financial Group (debt dogs) and after he provided me with his number stated something to the effect that the call was about trying to collect a debt. I live on social security so collecting from me would be like trying to get blood from a turnip. I've placed him and the numbers associated with him into my "do not answer" Contacts list.

I got a call from a client who has already file for bankruptcy.  She gave me this number said the guy's name was Mark and that he sounded threatening.  I got their number and reference number.  This company cannot be legit.  All I got when I called was long VERY long hold music.  It didn't even greet me with a company name.  I've dealt with plenty of collection and credit agencies and they all have a greeting and you are able to speak to someone, anyone, about an account.  So, after about a minute and half of holding to some music, it hangs up on you.  They do not appear professional at all.  No one give out any information to them!  Ask them for proof that your account has been handed over or written off from the original creditor!

THESE PEOPLE HAVE TO BE A SCAM THEY PLACED ME AS REFUSED TO PAY BEFORE I SAID COULD NOT PAY, AND BEFORE I COULD SAY WHERE SHOULD I CALL TO MAKE A PAYMENT, THE "MANAGER" HUNG UP ON ME. A COLLECTION AGENCY SHOULD NEVER RUDELY HANG UP WHEN YOUR ASKING ABOUT PAYING AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN NO ONE WILL ANSWER FROM THIS NUMBER. ONLY GLAD I DIDNT PAY THEM BECAUSE IF I HAD THEY WOULD NEVER ANSWER ME FOR THE MONEY AND I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CALL BACK. I GUESS I HAVE TO WAIT FOR FURTHER ACTION, ILL BE SURE TO GIVE THEM THIS INFORMATION.

This is a place that purchases written off debt.  They have been harrassing me over a credit card account that my ex husband opened without my knowledge while we were married and put me on as joint and than didn't close during divorce.   They say they are going to sue me for $4000 dollars,  I have called the issuer, Best Buy and they can't even tell me what was purchased or when it was purchased.
