I received a text telling me to call this number.  I have not signed up for any mobile updates and when I called Wellsfargo, they said they would not request information this way.

It's sort of strange that some people at WF can't easily verify this number... what I ended up doing was having the customer service people call (the people at the number on the back of my card)... they called and verified that it is in fact the WF fraud unit.

It is strange that the fraud unit calls and ask you to provide security codes, etc... I was always told that they would never ask for that stuff. They ended up saving me $700, so I'm not putting them down for their overall effort, but they need to get their act together in terms of verifying who they are. There should be a way that the customer service people can recognize other WF numbers, especially where fraud is concerned.

the number is legitimate but it did give me a scare because the first thing the woman asked for was the card number.

i got a call from my local branch two days later and they did not recognize the number but i went through the number on the back of the card and they did.  It made me jump and led me here but the number is good.


Don't trust all the things people post here.  Criminals are not above setting out good information about their scam.  Be safe use the number on the back of the card its just safer in my mind!

OK, I need to clear up my last statement, even though the statement was true.  I called the 888 number and they rep sounded legit, and did not push for any personal information and explained this number has a prompt and another Fraud number is a direct line.

I called Wells Fargo Fraud Deparment, and they could not verify that the number was a Wells Fargo number.

Yes, it's legit, as I verified by calling the customer service number on the back of the card (through whom I was then able to verify the attempted transactions). But these days, you and I both were justified in being extra careful; since I'll never remember the telephone number, I'll probably handle it the same way next time.

Yeah, I was leery, had read about a scam that had a similar MO and was so skeptical that I didn't return the call until I had time to check the number - so it's been a few days; well today is my day off, so I started checking the number and came across this; checked my Wells Fargo Bank Account and I have had several Debit Card Transactions lately, a little more than I usually do which might have 'triggered' something, but in any event I called them, it was an automated system (they also allow you to speak to a representative). They asked me about a couple of recent transactions, asked me to approve them or deny them. The three transactions they asked me about were one for about 8 dollars and a little corner market, one far 23 dollars and a neighborhood chinese restaurant that delivers to my apartment, and the third was a 16 dollar charge at a fast food restaurant near where I work. I approved them and feel confident that this is a secure way for them to obtain my approval, I'm glad they asked, even though they were in fact purchases I made, it's good to know they're out there watching.

ended up calling wells fargo through website. This number is legitamate--they said that they had called and left a message(with this number) this morning.

claiming to be wells fargo fraud dept. Haven't called back yet to find out for sure.
