An "IRS Representative" called from this number with a rather threatening tone when my wife picked-up the phone. He talked of an IRS audit on our tax returns with a case # WCB1976. He threatened if $2000:00 is not paid immediately with a debit card [credit cards not accepted] police will show-up at the door within the next half hour, and we will be arrested. So, to avoid all the hassle a payment has to be made immediately. That's when I took over and started talking to this guy. We could figure out that it was an Indian with an American name and a trained/pseudo-American accent. I wish I had spoken to him for a longer time to get the background of where he was calling from, which company he represents and the like. But when I asked him to go ahead with the "legal proceedings" to have us arrested, he immediately hung-up.

I have heard form a few people that calls like these are becoming very common with call centers from India. Its indeed very very sad. Nice to see the bottom of this - who is behind, the company they represent, where the money is going from the gullible victims, and eventually see the whole operations come to a disgusting end.

I received two calls from 888 705 1251 regarding a Tax evasion (in past few days) and they left a VM asking me to call them back.

After I called back, an Indian lady answered "Internal Revenue Service".  I asked them what was the call about and she asked me to give me the number at which I received the call so that she can collect my personal info.  Upon this, I asked he who she really was and why she needed this info and she hung up.  I tried calling back to get to the bottom of this and the call went to a voice mail.

SCAM!!! Do not fall for it.

This weird caller is calling us and harassing us telling that we owe money to IRS and should do a money transfer otherwise we will get arrested. Usually the amount of money is a large sum but if we give him now through moneygram, it will be settled with couple of thousand dollars. It started as "state Legal Department" and the no.was 347 377 7091. Now it is Sheriff's department and the no. is 18887051251. All FRAUD.

Got a call from 8887051251....threatening with arrest for a tax fraud case against my name. Called the number after they left a message on my Vmail....they answered "this is the IRS".....the respondent refused to give his last name......these guys have very thick Indian accent.....I believe they are giving the Indian America a very bad reputation, just like the Nigerians. They told me I have 45 minutes to provide an attorney or I will be arrested through their direction by the local police. Then they told me I may not need an attorney. He said he will call me back with some options. What a shame the real authorities can't seek out these criminals and send to Guantanamo. They are causing undue stress to simple hardworking Americans. Please someone DO SOMETHING!!!

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Its a extortion scam operation and the pay is in scaring folks into paying what they do not actually owe! They want x amount of dollars, and usually want to settle for less right now and want you to send it via a green dot card (major red flag for anything).

My family member received a call from this number and the person on the phone said they were from the IRS and that "they were going to be arrested because of a tax evasion lawsuit." My family members then said "you are crazy, we are old and do not make any money what-so-ever. How can we be arrested?" They then asked for the family member's names and said it was for their son that they were calling. The call was then transferred on to us. When we tried to call the number it would cut off with no voicemail available. When I finally got thru a woman answered and never identified herself. I had to ask if this was the IRS dept. From there, they could not pull up our information unless I gave them the number that they had called originally (our family members). She had a very strong accent and I could barely understand her. She said someone was going to come to our house and arrest us because of tax evasion. This was false so I asked what the details were and why we never received anything in the mail. She did not answer, just kept saying we had a "defraud" account. Nothing she said made sense, so I called the real IRS and they said this is the latest scam right now and that the IRS have to give am ID number and name before speaking to anyone. Beware, do not give in to these people. It is false!!!

3 voice mails left on home phone over about a week identified as being from IRS regarding someone trying to commit fraud against me ( if it was my  SSN it wouldn't be the IRS calling). Have never called back. I'm a bookkeeper and payroll specialist and know how the IRS communicates. The accents are heavy and mostly it insults my intelligence. I'd like to call back and say "F**k you, strong letter to follow" but that won't accomplish anything other than to make me feel better. I don't understand how they make money other than if they obtain payment or payment information. Mostly annoying and want the calls to stop.
