They also call in Quebec and claim to be from the government. When someone from the government calls, they usually speak french. These people just think we're not smart enough to figure out they're scammers. They call our offices one a week and I always ask them to speak french which they obviously can't do. They get mad and hang up every time.

Hi Everyone:
This is called spoofing. The person calling is not actually calling from the number displayed. They are just setting that number up as their caller ID. You can ask your IT department or phone provider to block the calls from that number. Never ever give them information. Putting them on hold til they hang up is a good idea. And don't expect to ever get honest info from them, e.g. to go "down and speak to them." They're not even in our country.
This same group of jerks was pretending to be the Better Business Bureau several months ago, and even then, no government office did anything about it. The BBB just put it on their website, "Hey don't trust us if we call you!" The FCC is doing nothing about this. And they'll pretend like they can't. But the truth is, there just isn't enough time or people to put on a case like this. I hope they find it, though. B/c these jerks are really annoying and likely some day going to find a victim.
Sorry that was preachy. Good luck.

Just got a call from this same woman...at the business that I work. She has called multiple times asking the same generic moving questions, saying she is calling from the Business Development of California (or something like that). When she asked to speak to the office manager I told her "without a valid first and last name I am not authorized to transfer the call"....Now I know to f*** with her!
Great!

888-710-2013 Stated they were with the Governors office in the State of Texas......bull crap!

This number has called my work many times also claiming to be the "Department of California". And when I ask them for a valid first and last name they hang up...
Tired of these scam calls 2013-11-13 19:20:14 Unknown
Called my business and claimed to be from the Canadian Business Development Center and wanted to confirm my address and when our office is moving, I told the woman on the phone to please repeat what she wanted, as she was hard to hear on the line and she hung up. We aren't even a office, but a retail store. Won't be answering their calls again. Glad I have call display.

Please remove our number from this list. We did not request, nor do we want your fraudulent services. 12-20 phone calls a day from this entity is becoming disruptive to our company. Thank you

Pretty much the same as everyone else has said. This caller said she was from "The Illinois Business Directory" or something like that. Asked if we were still located at xxxx W. ______ St. I said yes (foolishly). I was then asked if we were planning on moving in the future. I said no and hung up.
Thank you to the person that suggested these caller just be put on hold so as to annoy them. I actually can't wait for their next call :)

Caller identifies herself as from the "BC Development Office" asking if we have found a location for the new office. Hangs up after being told that we aren't moving. Caller is female and has thick accent.
MAC 2013-11-06 22:34:16 Unknown
Received a call from this number claiming to be from the BC Development Corporation (Which no longer exists). They were asking about our upcoming move. (We are moving but still some sensitive negotiations going on so I didn't want to confirm anything and wondered if they had some axe to grind). After some conversation with her asking vague but repeated questions about our move and me declining to answer I told her she should call our Planning and Facilities Office. Then I asked for her phone number and she hung up. Some other people in the office said they have been callling regularly since the summer. Then I looked the number up here and see that they have been very busy, but I can't figure out what they are trying to gain. Unless they work for some company that sells anti-spammer devices for phones.

OMG! I thought maybe because I had asked them to remove us from their list MILLIONS of times that maybe they decided to add me to 'bug the s*** out of this girl' list, because they're calling more often now.
Whenever I've politely asked to be removed from their list, they hang up on me.
When I finally hung up on them, they called back TWICE asking to speak to my manager/supervisor and were rude because I hung up on them.
Seriously?
Joanne 2013-11-05 16:36:24 Unknown
they're calling canada too, it's obviously not a real company, or even a remotely legit one since they cater their calls to where they're calling - i bet given the woman's accent who calls us 3 times a week that this BS is not limited to canada and the US but they say theyre calling from the place theyre calling.
WP 2013-11-05 16:30:10 Unknown
Man I wish we could stop these calls... despite my asking them for FOUR STRAIGHT YEARS to take us off their lists, they continue to call and continue to lie to me about where they are calling from. now, i just hang up on them... correction: i slam the phone down on them. what annoys me the most is it sounds like the same damn woman that's been calling for these 4 years and tells me she's from somewhere else every time! if they're too ignorant or stupid to stop calling when you ask or when you hang up them, they can't be legit, just saying...

She called saying she was from the dept of whatever, expecting that this was some type of NGO like "the better business burea" I said, "are you calling from the government?" and she said yes. Either way she asked "if we had found a place to move to".

Got the call from this Philippine woman heavy accent stating from State of Arizona 888-710-2013 and i told her to go to hell.
Here we go again & still 2013-11-01 16:27:28 Unknown
This number calls stating they are from the State of Colorado wanting to know if we have or are still looking to relocate our office locations. They are definitely irrataing, annoying & obnixious. I am sure there is definitely a scam behind the question.
How to keep them from calling I do not know.

Keep getting harassing calls from the "State of Pennsylvania Office of Business Development" they keep askign if we're looking to move, if we've decided to stay, or if we're still looking for places...as soon as I tell them I don't make that decision they abruptly hang up and then call back again 3 days later to do this all over again its a complete waste of time, its rude and it constantly unterrupting my work day there has to be a way to make them stop these harassing calls.

Got a second call from them, received another one yesterday. They claim to be from the State of Washington (state were in) and they need to verify if we are moving. I'm not sure what info they are trying to get but I'm sure claiming to be from a dept. for the state of washington isn't very smart. When you call the number back, it states that its not in service.

I just received a call from them as well. Woman said her name was "Chris Johnson" calling from the State of PA asking me if I have moved. She did have my address already. I asked her to repeat which division of the state department she was with. She became a bit aggressive, but I told her that she is calling from an anonymous 800 line and that I am in a protective do not call list. She then hung up.

They called and wanted to see if our company still wanted to move. Very strange, obviously trying to get leads by bugging business owners when they didnt request their services.

Second time they've called today. This time it was a "manager" who still hung up on me when I told them to stop calling.

I just receive THREE calls from this number just this afternoon. Within an hour of eachother! I also received one last week and another a couple of months ago. All asking the same thing: are we still located at...., do we still have plans to relocate... etc. The first couple of times I did provide the basic information and told them we don't intend to move. Also, when I asked why they keep calling, he/she just hangs up. All of them have a Filipino accent.

this person callr repeatedly stating to be from the state of Arizona. Will not verify who they are with a call back number. called 22-25 times in a row just to harass my office

This number calls way too often, and we always tell them we are not planning to move
EVER, and to take us off their call list but they still call constantly.......... Also why would the state of whatever state they choose at the time care about businesses moving in Canada? I would like to know what they get out of harassing businesses. What can they do with our address that they can't do without actually calling and confirming the address that they get from the internet?
They just waste time.

We get about 3-5 of these a week. The caller always has a heavy accent and claims to be with the State of Colorado. Every time they call I tell them the same thing: No we are not moving and please stop calling us. They always hang up. I will be asking for a supervisor next time. This is ridiculous and it wastes my time!
Jason 2013-10-29 15:42:18 Unknown
Calling as the State of Georgia, when I told them we moved 5 years ago, they keep calling- I told them this morning that they had just called yesterday and she proceeded to argue with me. Calling the number they call from back gets a "this number is not in service" message- such a scam and they are hiding behind fake information.

Called, saying they were from the Alberta Economic office or something, asking if we had found office space, how long it was until we were planning to move, and if the location we were moving into was an established location or under development. Then just hung up on me when I started asking questions to verify their identity.
todd 2013-10-25 16:32:15 Unknown
Received a call saying they were from the Province of Ontario Business Development Office - there is no such thing. I hung up

The person on the other end and was definitely foreign and asking personal questions regarding our business claiming he was calling from the State of Washington government department of some sort. After I hung up the dope called back at least 6 times before ceasing. This caller is definitely running a scam.
