To dani
if you did give them your id, you should be getting a letter from pg&e telling you that you switch over to using sparks gas or electricity in a couple of weeks.  Then after a month you should see the the name sparks energy on the gas or electric section of your bill.  Compare your bill with the last month before and see if you have save a bit with using sparks energy, if you are not satisfied with the amount then call pg&e to switch back. From what i heard you should not be charge to just switch back to pg&e, but ill ask to get more information on that. But yes let me tell you they do charge i think its a 4.95 for gas every month. But yes any other question fill free to ask...

Yes, Sparks energy is not a fraud.  My husband works for a business that signs customers up to switch over to Sparks (but he finds his customers by talking to people he knows, or when they do have events for switching over customers).  However, I agree with not give up my information on the phone.  As of right now my husband and i are receiving gas from sparks, but because it is now summer we use more of electric.  So hopefully during winter we can probably see the difference on our bill, because as of right now California only have gas from spark.  But yes if anyone does need more information about sparks or anything with switching over please do ask. I can try my best to answer your questions.
P.S - i probably won't have much answers to the unknown callers, because everyone i know who are switching over customers talk to their customers face to face. Even i didn't know that there are people who do call.

Spark Energy is a legit supplier to PG&E that you can have as your supplier (your bill still comes from PG&E, you can still call PG&E if there are problems, nothing changes...except you pay less!). You can do this easily without being bugged by telemarketers, help people who have been laid off or are otherwise out of work (like me!).  Check it out:  www.chocolate.ampegy.com. or www.chocolate.ampegyservices.com.

I  had a positive experience with spark energy.  I SAVE about 35% off my gas bill with a rate of .67.5 for gas locked in for 12 months. No early cancellation fees.  Our household uses alot of gas, cooking ,heat.  I received the letter from pge confirming that spark was their supplier.

My telemarkerter offered their website aeo.ampegyservices.com - the person was very nice and with the website it gave me time to read through everything before choosing to sign up.  They didnt try to sell me over the phone.

I just received  similar call with caller ID said Unknown Number.............as this could be an overseas call I answered.
Again Sparks Energy offering 8% off my PGE bill for two months and then a competitive rate.
I only have PGE for electric but I would never do business like this over the telephone.particularly with a company that hides their contact number!.......lady was polite but got aggressive when I expressed these sentiments! I thank her for the call & hung  up!
I believe this may be borderline legal but I am shocked PGE would cooperate with this I shall be talking to them tomorrow as today is a holiday.

Well done everyone for being cautious!

I just got a call from them as well and I am FREAKING OUT because I actually gave them my ID #. HAs anyone done this, and if so what will happen now??? I knew it seemed fishy after I asked some reasonable questions and the guy didn't have anything to say, so I said o thanks and hang up- but I already have given my ID# and confirmed what my adress was and that this is my billing address. Can they start charging me for whatever the hell they want?

I just received a call from a 8063911101 Hereford, TX number regarding getting a discount through Spark Energy. He asked for my PG&E ID said I pay my bill online therefore didn't have the ID number. So he said I should go to Spark Energy.com and input my ID number to receive the discount. I told him I would check into it myself and got to off the phone.I googled Spark Energy and this forum popped up, I think the whole thing is fishy and it seems that because the economy is so bad that there are more scams and people out there trying to take advantage of those trying to save some money. I don't trust people these days and usually when it sounds to good to be true it usually is!

So I just called PG&E billing and they gave me the run down on Spark.  They are not a fraud however they do have a few flaws.  PG&E will still handle everything including the billing however your Spark account may reduce your bill.  You are getting their gas and electric and PG&E distributes it to you.  They have a cancellation fee and they may have some service fee's as well from time to time.  I still stayed with PG&E only because I know what I'm getting and I choose to remain a loyal customer to a loyal company.  Choose wisely!

I signed up with their program around a month and a half ago. The person that called me was very polite, he also mentioned how the program works. It is Spark Energy Gas that called me from this number. They offer some saving on the gas bill from the reading this month. Me and my husband used the about same units, and are now paying around 10$ less, per month. There is a monthly fee of 4.95 added on. But with savings of 10$ monthly. I still will be saving about 5$ per month. For the next two years. It was pretty simple to switch suppliers, and we got billed through PG&E like usual. Thing is though. My family does use alot of natural gas. With the kids we had a high fee last month. So this program worked out for me. I wouldn't reccomend signing on if you do not use much gas though. Otherwise you won't be saving enough to cover the added membership fee.

They called me and several things stood out - they wouldn't mail any info until AFTER you enrolled; ( NOTHING said about a $25 cancellation fee! )  It was "the last day to sign up" and the sales man was aggressive.  All these things led me to say NO to the offer and not give any info.  After the call, I came online and found all this.  Good thing he was a bad salesman who gave me doubts right away!

PG and E account questions
--Same story different phone number.  Identified themselves as "Spark Energy" and that they were an approved gas supplier to PG&E and could be found on the PG&E website - I only gave them my name and told them I would have to call them back after checking them out on the internet. They were very insistent that I provide them information from my power bill and I refused.  I have no plans of calling them back.  They said their contract was for 24 months.

I received a call from the same number (Eva at 888-718-1702) who said she is from PG&E customer service.  She asked if I am currently used both gas and electric from PG&E (why ask me the info if she is from PG&E). She then asked me for the service ID on the bill.  Fortunately, I did not provide her the info and told her I'd rather call back later.  She was using the same tactic: that I am entitled to receive a saving of 8% if I enroll in the program.  She also mentioned briefly that if I cancel or moved, I would be charged $25.  I think this is just another sale call (probably for Spark Energy like the other person said).  The caller just disguised it well.

Caller ID showed "unknown caller"; pitched "Savings on PG&E bill" and needs to verify my address and details from my PG&E bill. I spoke with the lady nicely, explained that I will call back with my info as I need to know who is calling me. She identified herself as "PG&E Customer Service Program", number 1-888-718-1702, ext. 815, name "Edalynn". I hang up, and in 5 seconds googled into this page. Then I called her back and told her that she is committing fraud. I then called PG&E and notified their legal department.

I received a call from the same number (Terrance at 888-718-1702) who said he is with Spark Energy Gas. He said he was calling on behalf of PG&E and that I had been entitled to a savings of "up to 8%" for some time now and that he was calling to "help me enroll". After confirming his records with my address he had me read off my Service ID# from page 2 of my PG&E bill. Then he said I would be mailed a "welcome package" from Spark Energy Gas but would still be billed through PG&E. He said he was going to pass me to a "3rd party verifier" that would not be able to answer any questions for me. I would have 10 days to cancel or would be charged a $25 cancellation fee.
I said I would call them back. I called PG&E who confirmed that Spark Energy is their competitor. Due to fluctuating energy costs, they had no way to confirm Sparks rates or what amount I could save by signing up with them. The billing would still come through PG&E (as with a phone bill when you use a separate carrier for long distance) but Sparks will supply your gas.
