Get an education. Learn that "dint" and "donno" aren't words in the English language. Scammers target the uneducated.

Assuming you're not a shill and have a least a thread of intelligence, be aware that it is their responsibility to prove you owe the debt and that you owe it to them. There are plenty of links on this site and all over the web that explain your rights. Search on "FDCPA".

I agree with Elspeth there on printing this out for your boss. I also add this, he should also file reports - especially after he got cussed out..

Those prepaid cards (green dot etc) are big red flags.. they can't be traced to who got the money is why they want one of those!    And of course, not giving you address, thats because they don't want to be traced also.

It might help if you print out this thread to give to you boss and also let him know you've reported the fraudster to the FBI.  Also, in regards to your debt - it might be helpful to you to contact the actual loan company again.  Certainly, they MUST give you a mailing address, and I've never heard of any company, payday loan or otherwise, who wouldn't take a mailed check or money order.

From the details you've given though, I'd have to say this is a scammer who has harvested your personal info in some way.  Remember - never pay any caller unless they MAIL you proof that the debt is yours and that they have the legal right to collect said debt.  Read about the FDCPA and learn your rights as a consumer.

Thanks for everyone's quick response!  The caller did tell my boss that he was from the FBI and that I had to call him back because it was a serious fraud/finance matter.  I e-mailed a report to my local FBI Office this evening.  I will contact the other addresses you gave me.  I did return his call and had to leave a message.  He called back to my place of employment but I had left the office for a few minutes.  When I came back my boss to me that the guy called back, asked for me, and started swearing at my boss using the "f" word, etc.  I hope the FBI can track him down.  I do owe 300.000 from a payday loan.  I just got in such a bad financial way and have not been able to make payments.  They were kind of weird and never took an interest payment from my bank account and contacted me to pay through a credit card or a prepaid debit card because they are not allowed to take money by ACH legally in New York State.  I asked for an address to send the money and they won't give me one.  I have to make sure this guy does not keep calling at work.  My boss is not mad about it but it is disrupting the business.   This man that called had an accent like from someone from Africa or something like that.

LOL! Its called Extortion Scam..  And impersonating a officer is illegal. And on top of that, a loan aka debt, is a civil matter, not a federal one and you cannot be arrested for owing a debt..   Technically speaking, every step of this is illegal, it breaks FDCPA laws. Neither phone, fax or email is legal proof either..

You need to file a report with the real FBI, and tell your boss also since this man passed himself off as a Federal Officer.

Please do file reports with the FBI, your state attorney general and Department Of Justice,FTC & FCC..

Section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf requires 3rd-party debt collectors to give debtors written notice of debt (the key word is *shall*) :
"§ 809. Validation of debts
(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing?
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
(5) a statement that, upon the consumer?s written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor."

A Collection Agent May Not?

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

Misrepresent Him or Herself

A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

Use Abusive or Threatening Language

A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

Publish a Bad Debt List

Publishing the consumer?s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

Contact By Embarrassing Media

A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector?s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

Contact a Consumer at Work

A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.

Contact a Consumer Represented by an Attorney

A collection agent may not contact a consumer after it learns the consumer is represented by a lawyer.

Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request

If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.

Communicate With Third Parties

A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer?s debts with third parties other than the consumer?s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

The FBI is not in the business of debt collection.  You were called by a scammer.  NEVER pay any caller unless they mail - not email or fax - proof that the debt is yours and that they have the legal right to collect said debt.  No proof of debt = nothing owed to the callers, per the FDCPA.  Debt is civil, not criminal, so any threats of charges/arrest/jail are just that - empty threats - and also illegal.

Report the callers to the FTC, the FBI, Dept of Justice and your state's Attorney General.  It's also a federal offence to impersonate an officer of the law or a government agent.  And for future reference, if you really were being sued for a debt you owed, a court process server would just show up - certainly he wouldn't call you prior to this - and give you the court summons.

I received a message at work from someone who said his name is Officer Kevin Nash from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Finance Fraud Division.  Address given was 1025 Conneticut Avenue, Washington, DC 20056.  He said he was calling about a cash advance of $500.00 from Cash Advance.  He called my cell phone, my home phone and my place of employment.  He told my boss this was a serious matter and that he was from the FBI.  When I asked him what he was calling about he said he could download the information or that I would have to come the FBI court/office.  This really scared me and caused me to be alarmed.  I'm not sure why this happened.

Multi Loan  is a rip off company they tell you one thing and then they do some thing different.  I stopped my payments to them and finally got their attention. You can not talk to any one who works for this company and they won't return your calls. Now this.

I have been receiving calls from different people in the "Process & Summons Division". When I pressed for more info, they told me they were from my local county. Said there were 3 counts of financial fraud against me, but I have the "opportunity to make restitution".  I told them I knew they were criminals and this is a scam. Told them I called the police and also filed a report with FBI. That didn't stop them. They call on Thursdays. The police told me what they're doing isnt illegal. Sometimes the police just shouldnt talk if they dont know the law. this is fraud and extortion and harassment. They called my sister & a sister-in-law. I was telling my hairdresser about this. he said his friend gave people like this a check for $1000, and they then cleaned out his bank account. Today "Athena Andrews" said she was coming to my home to deliver papers. I hope she shows.

Has anyone actually had someone from this company follow through with that papers they are supposedly to deliver?  They have been torturing me for 2 weeks, and honestly, I can see how people pay them, they are scary.  I told them that I knew they were a fraud and that I filed a police report (which I did), but they didn't seem to care, after I did that I still got a call from a locator (Lisa Roberts) telling me that she had my name and address and I would be served.

These peopIe called my job and spoke to my idiot boss saying they had papers to give me.  Since I was not at work that day, I got an urgent message from my job saying I needed to call they people, before this I had  received several calls from John Chase (yeah right), saying that he had papers to give me and the only way to stop it was to call Nationwide.  I called Nationwide, they could not tell me who I supposedly owed, only that I had better pay them or the outside locater would serve me the papers.  I asked to speak to someone in their legal department they said they did not have one.  I asked for their address, they could not give that to me.  So I told them to serve me the papers, they kept telling me, I did not know what I was asking for and that I did not want the papers, I said yes, please serve me the papers.  A day or two later they kept calling my job telling the receptionist, that they had papers for me.  They called me at work from a phone with the same area code, when I answered they hung up.  I called back and got the same message, this phone does not take message (in a very ominous voice).  I called Nationwide again and told them to please have their "locator" deliver the papers, at that point I was told that I owed something to a company called multi loan source.  I found multi loan source on line (after reporting the fraud to my state corporation commission, state attorney general's office and the FTC.  I could not find a number, but I did find a customer service email.  I sent them an email saying that I had never had any dealing with them and that I had reported their unwarranted harassment to the above referenced agencies.  The calls have mysteriously ceased.  Those of you who believe that multi loan source is a victim are incorrect.  I'm pretty sure they are the ones who illegally obtain your information and get some slob collection agency to come after you in the hopes of scaring you enough to pay a bill you do not have.

I first took notice of this company, Nationwide, about 2 weeks ago. Got a call from either a 913 or 785 area code number. Was told by a "locator" that I had "charges" and like a case against me. The man, something Hunter gave me a reference number and the number to Nationwide, told me that I had like 5 days to call and make arrangements. I called the number and spoke with a "caseworker" for a very brief amount of time. Don't remember what their name was. I do know that that main number is answered alot of the time by a woman that calls herself "Mercedes". Guess she's a caseworker too. But, I know these people are a debt collection agency. This woman tried to tell me that I had like a case that was in pre-litigation. But, there's no way possible, because even though I did take out a loan in the state of Kansas, I never wrote a check, so they can't do anything to me on a criminal basis. I'm gonna try and put this company out of commision, or at least maybe get like a little "monetary compensation" from them. lol :)

Same happened to me, exactly. I got scared and gave them a card number and I have to put money on it. Now I see it may be a scam. It started with a local  phone calling and threatening with legal claims for fraud and breach of contract unless I called this 888 number. They called up to 6 times one after the other when I did not answer. Then they left nasty messages threatening with legal action and saying they had my residence address and work address. With the local phone number  they said they were people locators and that they found me and needed residence information and work information to deliver legal claim papers, but I had one chance to solve the issue by calling the 888 number to prevent legal action. The 888 number is the Nationwide company mentioned above. The plot seems very similar andnI am contacting Multi Loan Source to find out what is going on.

I received the same calls this week. A person named Athena Andrews called first and said she was going to serve me papers. She not only left a message on my cell phone, but repeatedly called my work and harassed the people who answered the phone looking for me. When I called the number she left in her message it was Nationwide. I spoke to a person named Matt Golling. He must be my "caseworker".They told me that they were collecting for Multisource and that they would take 200.00 off the total owed since I called before the "papers" were served.Lucklily the only card number they have for me is a prepaid card that has no money on it. They wanted a 100.00 by June 29 and then monthly payments.I am also going to call Multisource loan and let them know this company is still calling people.

They called me and my husband and said they were going to serve us papers because we took a loan out and we were going to get charged with fraud. They said we never intended to pay the loan back.  We paid all but $50.( yeah our  bad,i know).  But they said pay $180 and everything will be dropped. We sorta fell for it at first. We gave them our address and bank card. They were going to withdraw the money tomorrow 6/21. They guy called us today and before they took our money i wanted more info. They said the BBB doesn't have any info on them. He told us we needed to talk to our "casework" who never answers. We called the place our loan came from. They  said they were not pressing changes or anything.
We called our bank and had to actually close our account. What a pain in the a**. Good thing we did cause they were going to take our money tomorrow. Dont believe there threats. We are a young newlywed couple and fell for it..... but at least they didnt get our money. they call themselves "Nationwide" 888-720-7966.  I cant believe we almost fell for it. We have bills we REALLY need to pay and they wanted $180 from us? How ridiculous.

Yes he told me the same thing, they did not make outbound calls & the call I received with message to call them was an outside locator hired to track me down. I told this guy, who calls himself John Garcia, or Mr. Garcia, that police reports have been filed against them as well as their outside locator by myself and the company Multi Loan Source, which this "Nationwide" claims hired them to collect a debt for them that I do not owe.

Just received 3 back to back calls at work from an Amy at (937) 688-1497 asking for my home address to send out papers for a suite against me. I told her no and asked for the name and number of the company she was representing. She gave me the (888) 720-7966 number to call. When I called that number, a guy answered "Nationwide" and was very nasty and said they didn't make outbound calls and demanded my personal information. I told him no.

Yes it is another scam & this time it's Americans! I was receiving calls from people with Mideastern accents with the same threats as these guys from Nationwide. Please don't fall for any of this! I get calls from a guy that says he's an outside locator & needs to serve me papers. I called his bluff & asked where he was, he said at the high school, I told him I'd meet him at McDonalds, he said no he'd meet me at my residence in 20 minutes. That was 4 hours ago! Funny he didn't want to meet at McDonalds if he was at the high school, which happens to be right across the street.  I told him that Multi Loan Source has filed a police report on Nationwide & him & that I did the same as well.
