Debt Collector
SCAM!!!! WARNING!!!

I too recently have been reached out to by this company that claims to be a "processing" company rather than a debt collector. At first, the call came in as a local number (806-395-2118). However, they attempted to contact me earlier at my office and provided my secretary with the (855) 499-8618 number.

So anyhow, the local call came from a lady claiming to be "Anna Jackson" and she stated that she was a "locator" and wanted to verify my home and work address. I stalled her by asking the appropriate FDCPA questions. She eventually hung up on me so I immediately turned around and called the local number back. Of course.... it was busy every single time I called (at least 20 times). So, I decided to call the 855-499-8618 number. Guess who it was???? Ms. Anna Jackson!! So when she answered, I asked her why she hung up on me. She denied the fact that she spoke with me, but I hate to say it.... I am an expert when it comes to voice recognition and there is absolutely no denying that this was the same person that just hung up on me. So anyhow.... let's move past the lying and deceitful acts and carry on with the rest of the story.

So throughout my conversation with "Anna Jackson", she continued to deny that they were attempting to collect a debt. However, she also stated within the same breath that we can "resolve this issue with a visa or mastercard today". Umm... hello!! If you are not attempting to collect a debt, then why are you attempting to "resolve" an issue with payment over the phone today without providing me with any sort of documentation of the debt you are trying to collect??????

I requested a physical mailing address and was provided with the following for what it is worth:

Understand your rights people!! These people are intending to collect a debt. If they do not disclose that to you at the beginning of the phone call, then they are immediately violating the FDCPA!! File a complaint with your local state attorney general as well as the FTC as their practice is a serious violation of your rights!

Who's Calling? That Debt Collector Could Be a Fake

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do no
t pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I keep getting a call from a lady at work then on my cell that never gives her name and keeps telling me about charges in a claim against me.   Tells me to call the same # listed above - 855-681-1070.  It doesn't sound like they're practicing standard debt collection policies.  I never picked up the phone after reading notes from this site.  She called me all last week and said this is your final notice.  Called me again this morning and says this is my final warning.  She will probably keep calling me with the same story.

I have gotten a call from Thomas Barnes - twice yesterday -once on my cell phone and at work.  Then today he called my cell phone again and not even 15 hours after the first call and then my work.  I said go ahead and serve me then I can find out what and who this debt is with, since they wont give you any information except to call a number back with a claim number.  He went as far as to call my hr department to say they would be serving me!!  He asked for my supervisor and when I said she wasn't here he asked for security then.  When I asked why he said they have "protocals" that they have to follow when serving someone papers and that if I did not call the number back he would see me within and hr and that was over 2 hrs ago.  I have never, ever heard of someone needing to have security around when serving someone and trust me I have been served papers before for various things and never has there been "security" present.  Can't wait until tomorrow for him to show up or call again cuz he won't like what I have to say because now calling my hr department is harassement when you know where I work and what my address is, which by the way I did not give to him.

Mine was a female calling from 623 258 4569. When you call it back it rings than goes to a fast busy signal. I thought I would call the police dept and ask them...I read that only a DA can press charges so I don't believe this is real. I figure if it is all they would have to do is look up my MVD records and find me!

Don't worry about it. They called my job twice today. Derrick White at 602-753-2350 trying to get me to call that number. Complete idiot using big words in the wrong context. Hopefully I can find out who he is so I can have him served. Call my job again and I WILL hunt you down and have you and the company that hired your behind for fraud and violating debt collection practices.

I received the same type of call today-first from a seeker that called me, my Mom and my Dad's first cousin. NO idea how they got My 2nd Cousin's #!!! When I called this # back and gave them my case ID said I was being charged with Fraud. I had to ask several times to get the name of the company. He named a pay day loan company Check Mate. I had their debt discharged in Bankruptcy 2 yrs ago. He said they were not trying to collect a debt. I told him that it was part of the BK and in Arizona it is considered bad debt. He told me good luck. I have to admit it scared me!

yeah ive been wondering if it isnt someone who actually does the calling and threatening.  I've been thinking...... doesnt a process server have to be the one to serve you papers to appear in court. Or a lawyer. I've never heard of a collection agency or a "person Locator" serving court papers.

I think its a fake entry and how would they know where he worked anyways. One out of how many people were served papers.  The guy who called me gave the name mark johnson and when i called back it was a busy signal. I searched online and there was nothing found. It was a local number 3162817246. I'm glad you reported it to the bbb. The first time i was called a few months ago they threatened me with jail and so on so i gave them my bank info. then i thought about it and cancelled my card. If it was legitimate why wont they take payment through the mail. An attorney on another forum posted that unless the collector is willing to provide written documentation of the debt then it is not valid and pay no one anything until proof is given. Thats why i dont believe at all the above post that the guy was served papers.

I've tried calling the Person Locator's number back which was 757-251-9369. I searched it online and it's a landline in Hampton, VA.  But I only get a busy signal when I call.  But, after calling the 888 number out and threatening to call the cops, I haven't gotten another call (and I received 4 total today).  I went ahead and filed a Scam Report with the BBB as well.

I'm actually wondering if the guy above was actually served papers or a fake entry on here.

Definitely a scam!  Called this number back and they said it was from a PayDay loan I took out in 2008.  I have never taken out a Payday loan.  The only thing I have is student loans!  They had someone else call me saying she was a Person Locator (which made me laugh), asking me to give her my address so that she could serve me with papers.  I checked this website out and a few others and when I called them back and called them out on being a scam and that I would call the cops for harassment if they called back, I was quickly hung up on without a word!!!  SCAM!!!

its a scam!!!!! The guy who called me called from an invalid number and when i offered to make full payment through the mail they refused payment unless i was willing to give my bank iformation. Per my attorney, you are never required to give your bank information over the phone. These people are unwilling to give thier address. I have been harrassed by these people for 3 months now and i changed my number yesterday. They say everytime they are gonna serve me and they have yet to do so. But then again, how can you serve someone and take them to court when payment was refused and you are unwilling to give your address?
