Just got a call from this number and verified it as legitimate by calling the TM Customer Service Department.  No one asked for any credit card info--in fact, the gentleman I spoke with at the Fraud Department stated that they had already determined that the charge was fraudulent and strongly recommended we contact our bank to cancel the card--which we had already done.  The charge they called about showed as a pending charge when we checked account activity online.

Good catch by TM, and good customer service.

And Tony, if you leave us your phone number and street address I'm sure someone would be happy to stop by your place to provide you with some one on one counseling in recognition of your earlier post.  Shame on you, and here's hoping karma catches up with you quickly.

Hi Paul,

I'm wondering how you guys get the cardholder's phone numbers. You would think that if someone is trying to fraud someone, the contact info that they provide is fake to avoid detection. Are customers required to input phone numbers when they make transactions? Do you contact the Credit Card company or use software to pull up their contact info?

WRONG, Tony!  Just got this same call.  We called the general number for Ticketmaster instead of calling the number left on our machine because we were concerned it might be a scam.  Ticketmaster verified the number as correct for their Fraud Department and informed us they received a large ticket purchase on our Discover card.  We DID NOT verify any credit card information with Ticketmaster.  We then followed up with our Discover card and there indeed was a fraudulent charge.

THIS IS LEGIT -- not a phishing/scam.  They called and asked if I had bought tickets to an event, because they suspected my card was being used for fraudulent charges.  I called back, very skeptical, and TKT Master provided the information:  asked if I had purchased tickets to a specific event which type of card, last four digits.  She asked a few more yes and no questions, and did not ask me to provide any additional information.  She recommended I call my credit card company and report the fraud, which I did.  (I was already looking at my credit card account and could see the charges she mentioned as "pending". )

What's in it for Ticket Master?  By catching the fraud on my card for two transactions of $1000 each, they aren't out $2000.  I believe when you report the fraud to your Credit Card company, you get the charges removed, but the seller (ticketmaster, sears, the hotel, etc.) are left with the loss.  It's presumed they didn't properly check/confirm the identity of the person making the charges, to the person who owns the credit card.

Wayne is absolutely correct! 888-731-4111 left a message asking specifically for ME and when I called back, they asked if I bought tickets to the lion king using an american express card ending in XXXX. I did NOT so she gave me the information I would need to file a police report, told me they were voiding the order and urged me to call AE immediately. The charge was for 843.20!

When I told AE what was going on, she actually asked me in a very weird, scripted way, if it was OK for her to cancel the account, reporting the card as lost. I said, NO, it was NOT lost, the information was stolen! I thought that was really odd....

Anyway---the number is not a fraud and I can't believe Tony's remarks haven't been taken down.

Many people feel it is the business of the banks to handle the Credit Cards.  Keep in mind the banks are the absolute LAST line of defense you have.  The fraud department is the 1st.  Fraudsters like to 'fish' for information and usable information and mislead people with deception.  If you get a call from 888-731-4111, they aren't going to ask you your name.  They will ask for a specific person.  They aren't asking you to buy anything.  They aren't even interested in your Credit Card number.
The fraud department will want to speak directly to the card holder, the person whose name appears on the Credit Card and simply are looking for a 'yes' or 'no' answer.  Did you buy tickets?

This is legit.  I was leery at first, but did an online chat with someone at the main TM site, and she gave me the same phone no. to call.  Called the credit cards first and, sure enough, a pending charge of over $400 for tickets was on one of them.  Cancelled, getting new card, filed a police report at the request of Ticketmaster.

This is legit.  Someone scammed my credit card info and tried to charge over $400 for tickets.  If they call you, first check with your credit card issuers, and then call Ticketmaster.

The actual caller id was 800-653-8000 but the message asked to call back ticket master fraud dept. at 888-7314111. It was a legit call. Someone had purchased $300. in tickets. Ticket master caught it as fraud some how and issued a credit I then called my cc company and luckily there were no other charges. They are sending me a new card. Thank you ticket master for catching this.
Also they gave me the last four digits and the only thing they asked was if I placed the order. You should also get a order number left with the voice mail to call them back..

I work in the fraud dept for ticketmaster in Charleston WV. The direct line to the dept is 1-888-731-4111 and each agent has their own extension. The phone number to the Ticketmaster customer service dept, located about 20 feet away from my desk, is 800-653-8000. If you are skeptical (which is understandable) call 800-653-8000, ask for a CS supervisor and the phone number, intentions, and legitimacy of the fraud dept will be clarified. We are simply trying to help the company and the customer's save losses. It is a very simple concept people. Credit card companies, banks and other institutions have the same type of departments.

I received a call from "Paul" (who left a message) stating he wanted to verify my account information as well as my billing and credit card information for a purchase made on my credit card for an upcoming event. I, indeed, did make a purchase of 2 tickets to the event he named but he did not say how many tickets were purchased according to his information. Being a sister of a police officer I am always skeptical about these types of phone calls. I may call "Paul" back and ask him to give me the info he has instead of the other way around. Bottom line, if you have a feeling that something isn't right, then it probably isn't. Unfortunately, in today's society, we all have to be on guard and watch our backs because there are a lot of bad people out there that are constantly looking for easy prey. But if "Paul" thinks he can defraud me, he is messing with the wrong person.

BEWARE of calls from this number.

They called me today and asked me for my last 4 of the CC.  The caller ID did NOT say Ticketmaster.  I told I would verify the last 4 digits of the CC and they refused to do so.  I then asked them to prove they were indeed ticketmaster by simply naming the CEO of TIcketmaster (Nathan Hubbard as of this writing).  They had no idea who the head of their own company was.

Basically I was asking them for proof they were who they said they were, since I had to give out part of my credit card number, but they refused any of multiple validation measures.

I am hesitant to recommend giving out part of your credit card to people at this number.

TM does not want to be responsible if there is any vigilant behavior. The information is also considered criminal so we only release the info to law enforcement.  The information also is red flagged by us for future uses of the info. We protect the info so that we can catch them again.

This is the Ticketmaster Fraud Department. They may have been looking for you, or someone with your name. They have to sometimes find the actual card holder when a fraudster puts fake number on acct. They may have been fishing to confirm the fraud. They are legit. Nothing to be worried about.

Got the call from Ticketmaster fraud unit.  Goggled this site with a few comments saying it's possible bogus so resolved to just be careful. Made the call giving out no information whatsoever.  They simply said they had a charge that appeared fraudulent for tix.  I also saw same charge on my own account screen as a pending charge to my credit card I had not made.  All they provided me was my name, last 4 of account number and what the charge was for, over $600 in tickets to a concert half way across the US that I simply replied no to the question of whether I made the charge or not.  They said they would reverse the charges. They then said I should call the credit card company and didn't ask me to even confirm anything.  Even saw one other bogus pending charge on my account in the process.  My vote is this is a legit call. Now I get the hassle of calling merchants with recurring charges to give new card numbers thanks to people with nothing better to do than be crooks.

My credit card was charged via ticketmaster for an event.  I did not make this charge nor did I authorize it.  The event took place a good four hours from my home.  When I called (the second time around) I spoke with "Andrew" and asked for a number to the fraud department.  He refused to provide it to me and told me they would call me.  Mind you, this same promise was made to me at the end of July and no one ever called me.  Instead, they re-submitted the charge to my credit card company.  This is my first experience with identity theft and feel absolutely helpless !!  When "Andrew" refused to provide me with the fraud department contact information, I then asked what company they are regulated by so I can go above them and file a complaint.  He told me I cannot complain to anyone because TM is not regulated !!  What else can I possibly do to get this cleared up???  It seems clear TM does not care.  Do I have to go to the FTC?  The attorney general of my state?  Small claims court ??

Its a trunk line at ticketmaster and the number you saw on your caller ID was the trunk line. The 888 number is the number for fraud department, and Paul I know very well. You guys are the stupidest bunch of people I have ever met. There are so many ways to prove that is the actual number yet you dopes insist on being as dumb as a box of rocks and not investigate.

The reason TM as a  fraud department is to catch these charges before the event takes place. 1)to be able to put the tickets back up for sale to legitimate buyers and 2) return the money back to the cardholders.  After the event, the money for the tickets no longer is in TM possession. Legally, once the concert starts, the money is in the hands of the promoters. That is why TM cannot return the money once it starts.

You can say what you will, the intentions of that department and it's workers are honorable. Quit being idiots and do your homework before you make accusations.

I received a call from this number from someone by the name of Paul.  I ordered some tickets from ticket master last night and he called this morning claiming to be from the ticket master fraud department.  Thought I would look the number up before I called them back and I'm glad I did.   The name that came up on caller ID was West Virginia and the actual number they called from was 1-304-342-5757.

Tony doesn't want you to cancel the order that he worked so hard to get with your stolen credit card. He'd rather that you call your credit card company and let him sell the tickets first.

Right Tony....If that is your real name!

I was a victim of fraud and the fraud group at Ticketmaster caught it and called me. The young man was very professional. He only asked me to confirm the last four digits of my card, and gave me this number and the order number that used my credit card. They encouraged me to call the bank and the police. I did just that, and it was the truth. The police (who I knew well) called them and they were very helpful in giving information to help catch these guys. I called the young man back and thanked him. He was very appreciative and professional.

The information that tony gives is absolutely incorrect. Chances are that tony here is a fraudster himself *probably caught by us in the past* trying to keep people from actually preventing fraud. If you're still unsure about this ticketmaster number. Feel free to call ticketmasters customer service line and ask them directly what the fraud number is. That number is 800-653-8000.

As of July 23rd 2009 the people at this phone number are operating a SCAM by claiming to be the 'ticketmaster fraud team.'  It is very elaborate and even includes a recorded message and a nice sounding menu (press 1 if...).

They already have your credit card information and address, likely stolen from a website it was entered in or something of the sort.

They will claim they are investigating fraud, but they are actually the ones doing the fraud.

They will not make you tell them your actual number, they want you to 'verify' with them the number on the back of your credit card.  In my case they had already made one charge on my card, and in order to make more they needed the 3 numbers on the back of the card.

DO NOT GIVE THIS TO THEM.  If you get a call from this number, immediately hang up and call your credit card company directly.  They will make a charge up to about 500 dollars.  Get your card canceled immediately to prevent this from continuing.
