I got a call from a "Donna Anderson" claiming to be from the "Department of Legal Services" asking for my wife.  I saw right through this from the beginning; she asked me about my wife's SSN, phone #, DOB, etc...--all of which I denied to give her.  This is a scam for sure, no legitimate legal firm asks for personal information over the phone to "verify" your identity.  And just look at the bogus 'plain' names they give out:  Donna Anderson, John Taylor, Gary Waters, Brian Cruz, Kelly Brooks, Amy Scott...  Give me a break!
One thing is for sure though, what comes around, goes around.  They'll get their's one day, and I'm laughing now, knowing that it's only a matter of time...

They have changed their number it is now 1-866-245-1210 they called today, for a supposed check of 650.00 no payday loan would give me that much....ha ha. After asking what the name of the company was I was told by the "Darin" somebody NC legal Services but I knew the intial recording said National Check Affliates so I googled them and found these postings. I told him I would call him back and got his voicemail. I left a message that told him I had contacted my Attorney and he requested a copy of the debt they were refering to. Will see if I get a call back.

I also got a call from same guy stating the same thing. He left the message on my voicemail. Instead of returning the call to them, I called the FTC first to ask them what to do and he told me not to call and I should get a letter in 5 days. I ask him about them showing up here and he said to call the law if they did. So if they show up I'll call the ambulance for them. He said if they did call back to get all the info I could and to call the FTC back. Low life POS's is what they are.

This is another group of bottom feeder payday loan collectors that use illegal tactics to try and collect on possibly invalid or out of stat debts. For all those reading this: DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED. You cannot be arrested for a civil matter. They did away with "debtor-jail" a long time ago. This company probably isn't even licensed to collect in your state. Call their bluff and it only angers them or they hang up on you. If you owe a debt, contact the original creditor directly. You don't have to be bullied, threatened, or harassed into helping people like this get a bonus check.

After leaving a scathing message for Julie Morrison challenging her to return my call if she thought she could make it through the call without breaking the law, I haven't heard anything. Now when I call the number it rings a few times and goes to a fast busy. Real legit, way to go losers.

The statute of limitations is the amount of time a debt can legally be pursued. Each state has a different time limit and you should be able to find your state easily online. However, if the debt is past the statute, a collector will try to get you to acknowledge the debt or make a small payment thus restarting the timeline. I also suggest you check your credit report, if they have reported this without providing you proof of the debt owed you can dispute it will all three bureaus and it will be removed because 9 times out of 10, these garbage companies cant or don't take the time to do it.

Don,
Relax. I work in the medical field and I understand your condition and concerns. If you read further down I have stated this is not something you have to put up with. You are well within your rights to contact an attorney that will take your case on a contingency basis meaning you don't pay them a dime until you get paid. My heart goes out to all of the others in your situation that may not have been as fortunate as you and have suffered physically because of this verbal abuse. Demand something be sent to you in writing, You then have 30 days to request they send you proof of the debt. I suggest you keep a copy of your letter and send it certified so they can't say they never got it. I would also include a cease and desist including your home number, cell number, relatives, neighbors, and anyone else that may be a known associate. You can file a complaint with your states BBB and AG office. Save any voicemails and keep a log of all of your calls as this will be useful to your attorney if you decide to go that route. Or, you can just contact the original creditor directly and advise them of your experience with the company they hired and work out an arrangement with them, You do not have to sacrifice your health for some low life collector just looking for a bonus check. I wish you the best of luck, and again, relax. You cannot be arrested for a civil issue. Shame on those that took advantage of you.

It's clear you probably work for this crap company and are just trying to defend your bonus check. Get real, people aren't stupid. Even if this company did have attorneys working for them, you can't be arrested for a bad debt. PERIOD. I also suggest if you want people to take you seriously you learn how to spell. Payday loan collectors are the bottom feeders of the collection industry that aren't smart enough to hack it at a legit business. Your post made it obvious you probably don't even need a GED to work there. The fact that you prey on people that don't know their rights is deplorable, and I suggest you be careful what you say to people because one day, and one day soon, you will get someone smarter that you (obviously by your spelling and grammar it won't be that hard) that will take your company for everything it's got. If your company hasn't already had to change name to try and hide from all of the law suits people like you are bringing on. For all the victims out there, don't be suckered into paying something that is probably out of statute and the company calling probably isn't even licensed to to collect in your state. You don't have to take this kind of verbal abuse and be worried about their idle threats. It's all just a ploy to get money for a bonus. If it sounds like a scam, it probably is. If you do in fact owe the money, contact the original creditor and deal with them directly. I'm not advocating not paying your bills, but you don't have to be bullied, harassed, or threatened to do it.

Debt Collector
I received a message from a John Taylor stating he was getting ready to serve me with papers for 2 charges within the next 24 to 48 hours at home or work and to call the legal department at 888-749-8331 for specific details of the charges and gave me a case id #. He asked for me by my maiden name and had the last 4 of my social security number. I called the number and got a woman, I don't remember her name and at first she seems like she was trying to be really helpful and just explaining to me that it was for an old credit card bill that I had and that the company was filing it as fraud and that it would go against my record as a charge if I did not pay it. She said if the company took it to court I would owe 8881.70 but I could pay her 1695.91 and I could even just pay 1000 today and the balance within a few weeks to avoid the charges. I was in tears, I work for a bank and will lose my  job if I have a fraud charge on my record. But I finally got rational and said I don't understand it's not on my credit report, I bought a house in 2008 and settled a few old accounts and just checked my credit file a few weeks ago and there was nothing there. She got huffy then and her whole attitude changed so I eventually hung up. I did a search and then found postings about these calls. The company is called National Check Affiliates, on the advice of other posters I have called the FTC and filed a complaint. The man at FTC that I spoke with told me not to give them any information and that debt collectors are supposed to send me something in writing within five days. I am so angry that they used these tactics to scare me half to death and had me crying! I really wonder how many people they will actually scam out of money with these scare tactics.

I was contacted by this phone number and a woman said i needed to call a 1-888-749-7725 ext. 1 and that i was going to be served papers and that she would be at my home tomorrow to serve me papers and she could not tell me why.  i proceeded to call the number and they had my brothers name that i had not seen in years and had the last four of my social security number and said i owed 1145.00 for 2 checks from 2 check places,  i told them i was on disibality and they wanted me to give them 794.00 to clear it up all at once or i could pay 287.00 down and pay all the balance.  They had me scared out of my wits until my friend told me to look up the number and sure enough he was right.  I feel alot better now I didn't fall for it.

They appear to be using a UPS Store mail drop in Amherst NY.

If you are being threatened, or they are attempting to con you into paying some fake "debt", or they are evading your demands for proof of this alleged "debt", file complaints with FTC, your state Attorney General,  and the New York Attorney General.

It's a con and an extortion racket.

Pretending to be "on your side" is just the start of the old "good cop/bad cop" act.
And no, they aren't "cops".  They don't even play them on TV, but they might try on thephone.
Nothing they say can be trusted.

I just got a call, Unknown.  When I listen to the message it was a Brian Cruz from NCA (National Check Affiliation) at 888-749-7725 x648.  He left a message saying this was a message for my husband regarding an issue/litigation.  This Brian Cruz mention that his company was contacted to get involved. He asked if my husband wanted to make an oral statement or to get more information to contact him.  He said that my husband was going to be served papers of some kind either at work or home regarding this matter.  And that once he is served that his company could not help him.
