Contact FTC.
They just sued a large group of debt collectors in southern California using similar illegal tactics.
They are currently investigating many similar complaints of threatening calls coming from the general area..

After a bit of research, I have found that the collection company calling from this number is Direct Resource Capital Corp., also known as DRC. After several attempts and harrassing phone calls on my behalf, In which I was placed on hold and even hung up on after I advised I was recording our conversation, I was able to obtain the name of the company and the business address.
The company answers the phone as "Corporate Office" or "Direct Legal Services", this is simply a cover or an associated answering service operated by "Direct Resource Capitol Corp" or "DRC" as they refer to themselves.
The address is :2530 Vista Way, Oceanside, California 92054
Please follow the links in the below post if you have experienced illegal harrasment from this collection agency. Thanks.

Also file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office in your state and in the state that the company operates. In this case, I beleive the company is based out of California.
Click on the following link to go to Office of Attorney General in California.
Thanks,

Hope all that helps. Good Luck to everyone & God Bless.

Every one who has a complaint regarding the illegal practices of this Collection company, please go to the following link, which is the Federal Trade Commision, and report your complaint to them.
This is the only way to shut these companies down unless you have funds to file a civil law suit.
Thanks.

This number is actually a national answering service used to answer and transfer calls for bill collectors. Most likely, the answering service is affiliated with the collection firms.
The bill collectors are well known for breaking federal law by telling the customer that they are with the local authorities, either from the court or other law enforcement, and that if the call is not returned they will have an officer arrive with a court summons, or a warrant for your arrest will be issued. This is a scare tatic that the collection company uses, however, is a clear violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
The best solution is not to return the call. Furthermore, I would advise sending a Cease & Desist letter advising that under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, A Federal Law, that their services are no longer desired and you do not want them contacting you again. Send the letter certified mail with return receipt requested. Once they receive your notice, by law they are not allowed to contact you again regarding your debt. If they continue to call once you have given notice, File a complaint with the Federal Trade commision and your states Attorney General's Office. You can also file suit for civil damages, in the county and state they reside, should they continue to ignore this law.

hi, we have a situation that is raising red flags, they wanted my husbands debt card only for setting up payments from his number. they even wanted my husband to stop our truck payments for two months to pay them.wrong. what do you advise?
glamqueen18 2011-09-20 19:56:36 Unknown
I have received phone calls from a restricted number for the last two days. the first one was from ''valerie reed'' the second one I don't remember the name. they are saying they have made two attempts to get ahold of me to schedule a time to serve me a summons for court. I have been served before, and they do NOT make appointments. they just serve you. also, the number for a litigating officer would not be an 888 number. when I called this number it went to a voicemail that was in spanish! VERY annoying. if anyone finds out how to block, please let me know! thank you!
glamqueen18 2011-09-20 19:52:04 Unknown
the same thing is happening to me...same person! if you can find out how to block the calls PLEASE let me know. they are calling me every day and this is ridiculous!
glamqueen18 2011-09-20 19:51:01 Unknown
I have been getting the same calls the last two days. when I called it was a spanish message. I have gotten served papers before and I know they don't make an appointment to do it, they just do it. still a little creepy someone getting all your info and you can't block the calls cause they are from restricted numbers.

i just got a call from them and i need some help, they went thru my sister who lives in a different city and she called me and told them to call them that the law was getting involved, so i called and gave them the case number then they transferred me and talk to a girl that was being nice and informed me that they were on there way to summons me, so me not someone who breaks the law and have never been to court i caved and gave them a credit card number. so is this scam artists stealing money or is it really a debt collection agency? and what should i do now?

Just go to your telephone company web site and BLOCK the offending number, so it will not be able to come thru.
But that's nothing permanent, because those Caller ID spoofers use a number for one day or so, then start to use some other number. The numbers they use are abandoned numbers, not yet reassigned by the telephone companies.
From Wikipedia:
Caller ID spoofing is the practice of causing the telephone network to display a number on the recipient's Caller ID display which is not that of the actual originating station. The term is commonly used to describe situations in which the motivation is considered malicious by the speaker or writer. Just as e-mail spoofing can make it appear that a message came from any e-mail address the sender chooses, Caller ID spoofing can make a call appear to have come from any phone number the caller wishes. Because of the high trust people tend to have in the Caller ID system, spoofing can call the system's value into question.
It is amazing that such a crooked practice is allowed to go on!
Where are the feds when I need them????? I wrote to my US Rep...no response!
Bottom line: IGNORE IT and never give the other side ANY information. PERIOD!

I just received the same type of call, except my caller ID said private. They were asking for someone who doesn't live here & I don't know. But I asked what this was in regards to they said to just have the person call them back at 888-763-9341 with a case #. I called back for kicks & no answer!!
John AZ 2011-09-16 00:08:08 Unknown
I had EXACTLY the same thing happen. How do they get caller ID to show a fax number? I will report them tomorrow. Thanks for posting this!
John AZ 2011-09-16 00:04:35 Unknown
Had a phone call from "Matt Burns" for someone who doesn't even live here and, as far as I know, never has, asking for an out of court settlement. Then got a call from a "Carolyn King" saying that a summons was going to be served today and if she wanted to talk about it to call 1-888-763-9341 and give the case number. Funny thing is that caller ID showed that the call was made from a Fax machine in out county courthouse. This sounds like a major felony, and I will report them tomorrow as it's after close of business now.

These scam artists aren't even good at what they are trying to do. They have been threatening to send a uniformed "Officer" to my door after the third attempt to collect a debt that I don't even owe. They look up the county you live in and say they are with a division that doesn't even exsist. I was given the same 2 hr window that Robyn H was given. What a joke, they have broken every "Fair Debt" law there is. I have received calls from a Lauren, Mr Vera, and Jessica Johnson. I hope I can do something to get them caught and prosecuted. If they read these posts, they shove their calls where the sun doesn't shine.

Do not call these people back, they are a bunch of scam artists. I seen a number on my phone which I looked up on the internet and it was from my areas county clerks office, I then listened to the voicemail and it said that someone would be at my home in one hour to serve me with a summons, the message said not to call her back but to call the 888-763-9341 and give them the case number. I called them and they said that if I didn't make a payment that someone would be out in the next couple of hours to serve me. No one of coarse showed up.
The next day I called the clerks office with the number that they first called me from it was their fax numer. So I looked up the direct number and called them and told them what the message said. She said there was no one at all that worked there by that name and they had no record of any summons for me either. I told her that they used their phone number and she gave me the number of a local detective to call which I did.
He said their is an application people can use on their smart phones to make it look like they are calling from another number. He said it most likley was a scam and NOT to send them any money.
I should also mention that I did call the so called debt collector back and asked them for a real address and company name so that my attoney could send them information on my behalf and they refused to give it to me. A real company would have no problem.
DO NOT LET THIS COMPANY SCARE YOU INTO CALLING THEM.
If they are a real company they are in a lot of trouble. Save your messages.
L 2011-09-13 21:16:57 Unknown
I got the message recently also. What a scam!!! Told I was going to be summoned by the creditor and I'd have to pay legal fees. Said they were with the county and the creditor would file a lawsuit if I didn't pay. I called back and they didn't even answer.
Robyn H 2011-09-11 21:32:06 Unknown
threats of a warrant out for my arrest if no call is made within 2 hrs and calls are even being made to my children in college, my parents in another town and my mother-in-law
Jenn W 2011-09-09 18:34:40 Unknown
Received the same phone call, but the name given was Valerie Reed. She didn't state what company she was calling from or what it was in regards to. I was also given the 2 hr window or the courts would be notified of a failure to be served. Which here in CA is illegal. How do you get these people to stop calling? Has anybody found out anymore info on them?
A 2011-08-26 18:39:04 Unknown
Did the EXACT same thing to me as they did to Sickofit. The guys name that he used is Mike Anderson. Threats of Deputies showing up at my house or work. Saying that he was with the courthouse its terrible! Doesn't say which company he is calling from.

This company called me and are threatning me with foul lanuage, threatning me with summons, and starting calling me names, I am getting a lawyer, they are calling my husband at work so much that he going to lose his job. This company is very rude and very harrassing.
Whip 2011-08-17 08:20:06 Unknown
Same message, but Kevin Woods threatening a summons, legal action, which is completely illegal under the fair debt act. What a pompous a***ole law breaking sum bagg.
SICKOFIT 2011-08-04 23:42:55 Unknown
I Have received the same type of call..this was the 1st number they left on vm telling me that they are with the process server division of my county clerk of courts and that they need to schedule a time to be served a summons to appear in court by a officer in uniform. Said I need to call the issuing agent to schedule this time and that i have a 2 hour window to call them before dispatching an officer, gave a legal case number to give when i call. Told i they will make 3 attempts to establish this and if we don't they will notify court that i am debating summons or failure to serve. I was pretty shaken at 1st. They did call me 3 times by 3 names and 3 different phone numbers. I called my county clerk and she told me we don't even have such a division that it is a scam. She took names and numbers given to notify her clerks in court. Also, told me to contact my local police department. Also, at one time a 760 exchange was on my phone (as i hung up on 1st call and he called me right back leaving a message) that is a California exchange and i live in Ohio. These scam artist are getting really good at what they do. The names used were Kevin Woods, Matt Burns, and Sophie Lauren. FYI, you are not notified when you are being served a summons, they just do it! Good luck to you all out there!

They called and left a message about being sued and a case #. I returned the call and they answered the phone Corporate Office. I told them what the message said and they directed me to someone else who was very nice, only to find out they had the wrong #. I did ask what the company was and found out that they are a collection company called Direct Legal Services. Hope this helps everyone.
