Just FYI... This is still going on. I received 5 calls from 855-275-3645 within just a few hours. When I finally answered I was told there was an action linked to my social security number. It then said to press 9 immediately or have legal council call 1-888-805-2670 and provided a claim number. I googled the number and ended up here. I believe it is also a scam.

I just got a call from this company.  Actually they are a legitimate law firm and collection service.  Recently I fell victim to identity theft involving a "payday advance" loan store.  Got my bank and everyone else involved and everyone washed their hands of it, except for my attorney!  They do use "stronghold" tactics, which may be illegal, but they are just doing their job. They want you to set up a time and date to make a lump sum payment.

Same crap, saying something is pending against my SS#...

This company or scam keeps calling, never leave a message.  When you call them back they give you a lame story and get rude.

Same thing happened to me only they have been calling my father and father in law looking for me. I checked with the payday loan company they say I have a loan with and they said that I dont. EVERYONE: please report them to the FTC and your state attorney general- I am going to do it right now! Its the only way we can get them shut down!!!

Suspicious call with no identification saying personal information was being used.  Did not press nine. Called the number, all agents busy.  Will not call again.

1-888-805-2670.  A recording says that a claim has been filed against you and they will proceed immediately if you don't call them back.  I hit the button just so I could ream someone and got "all agents are busy."  Please don't fall for this.  If a lawyer wants to sue you, they would do it at the very least with a notarized letter.  And NEVER give out personal information on the phone.  Someone needs to shut these people down!

Got a call from these jokers and man are they in trouble.  They aren't allowed to call you with any legal action and they have 5 to 7 business days to put it in writing.  Since they chose to continue with their threatening calls, it will now cost them $5,000 for this mistake, plus they have to completely wipe the debt to 0.  I strongly suggest documenting all of the calls and the conversations and turn this information not only over to your Attorney General, but also a collection lawyer.

I've been getting these calls for sometime now so I decided to look up their name on line. I get the same message about being sued and calling right away. So far I've not spoken to anyone. My husband did call the number and they wanted him to give  my ss number he told them he didn't know it and hung up. Their still leaving messages.

HE CLAIMS TO BE AN ATTY YET HE NEEDS AN ATTY TO FILE AGAINST ME HMMM. NO PAPER WORK ECT AND OTHER WIERD THINGS. SCAM.

Got a call from this number 888-805-2670 today and was told that a bank I dealt with along time ago had filed criminal charges on me.Then he went onto even tell me that I could repay this debt to the loan company which went onto my old bank card and the amount with all the charges was 1000.00 some odd dollars,but I could settle this debt for 440 in 2 monthly payments or settle in full before end of month for 249.00.When I asked him how he got the phone number he told me they have private detectives that get this information for them and use the ssn to locate the people.He represented himself as a legal representative of the lawfirm Burns and something.This guy had an old address I lived at in 05.I have not had any dealings with cashnet usa and only had a woodforest account for about 2 months.The card number had been used by someone back then after I had fallen for a scam.He told me there were charges filed against me in that old county I once lived in and he would send me paperwork with a copy of reciept of payment after he got the card number,expiration and code on back.Now that I have read this I am not giving him any information.I was wondering why woodforest had not ever contacted me about this.He said cashnet usa had filed it after I had mentioned that I had sat and had conversation with woodforest over the fraud issue.He shook my wife up pretty badly and she has had a stroke and 2 heart attacks in the last year.Can not for the life of me even understand why a lawfirm would call someone from an 800 number on an issue like this.I should have questioned that,but didnt want to continue the call.

Guy just called me but would not tell me his name. Said he worked for Burns & Hoffman regarding some joint "lawsuit" in my county. He could not even pronounce my county and kept repeating lies over and over. He would never tell me why he was calling and said that because I was yelling he couldn't talk to me and he hung up on me which I found very amusing. My parents are also getting calls, this is all lies and I do not believe or put up with any of their threats.

I got a call from these guys too.  They have a website but I think they are bogus too.  They give me the SAME story that another company did about 6 months ago.  DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYTHING!  Record the times they call you and then go to consumerlawcenter.com and report them.  This place goes after "companies" that violate the fair collections practices act.  According to the Secretary of State's site, this collections company - Burns & Hoffman is registered at 167 Ashland Avenue, Buffalo, NY  14222 and started up in May 2010.  Their site has a PO box in Tonawanda, but I think these are the same guys.  If you are being harrassed, go after them with the law.  And file a complaint with the NY Secretary of State.  This scamming has to stop!

They are out of Tonawanda(sp?) New York.  They seem to be linked to some of the other jokers talked about on this thread.  They are on www.burnshoffman.com.

A company called Burns and Hoffman called a friend of mine's family  looking for me in regards to an "ongoing investigation" into myself.  Giving them all my personal info. on the message.  Lady that called was a Katie Williams.  Bet money that is not her name.  Never heard of these people nor have they tried to contact me regarding anything. Call their number back..877-819-0949..and nothing..nothing but answering machines.  Their website says they have no complaints of judgements against them.  Riiighhhtt.  Wonder how long they have been in business.  Look up the above phone number and another ladies name pops up all over regarding different businesses...what?!!  Their tactics are underhanded and they need to be stopped.  Never even got mail regarding a darned thing from these guys now they are threatening me? Wonder how many other out there have had the same experience.

I received two phone calls from this no. today on my cell phone.  As soon as I picked up, the recording started, stating that a "claim attached to my SS# "was received in their office and it was "very important" that I contact them by pressing 9 or having "my legal rep do so," and to be sure to mention "such and such a claim #" when calling back.  I had no intention of doing so, esp. when A) it's a call to my cell, B) it's a recording, not even a human on the other end, so how "very important" can it really be? and C) they don't identify themselves or the company they represent.  Do they really think a sane rational intelligent person would actually call them back???  I regard this as an extreme invasion of my privacy and will report them immediately.

When I got the first call the voice message said "CALL".  So the next week I answered it as "what the hell do you want"  and it was a recording saying they have my social security number and a collection against me.  I am in the process of filing bankrupcy.  When it becomes official I will tell these a holes what they can do and I will give them my attorney's name and number so they bug them and not me.

I have rec'd several calls from this agency called Burns and Hoffman.  They sound so legititamate.  I even went so far as to arrange payment for an old debt that I know I had, but stopped the payment because they said they would send me papers and I never rec'd them. I asked for verifiication of the debt, but they said...you should be aware of it.   When the payment didnt go through they called and threatened that if I didn't call them back by 4pm they would be filing papers in court.  I did receive a letter from them yesterday naming the amount to be debited and a weird looking letter head with a po box.  I have tried to look the supposed firm up, but I cannot find it anywhere.  It is scarey.

I got the call on my cell phone today. I find it odd that I am getting these now that congress just passed the law the cell phone numbers are not public. Everyone needs to put their cell numbers on the national blocked list. I had the same experiene, a message said that my ss# was associated with something and that I should call back or have my legal representative call back. It gave a case number. I have been calling back all morning and no one ever answers. VERY SUSPICIOUS!

my husband recently switched phone numbers at at&t...ever since then he has got random phone calls pretty much as listed above...how do these people get your numbers???

I got the same call "a claim has been filed against your social security number. Press 1 now to be connected to an operator or call us at 888-805-2670."   But then all operators are busy and they wanted me to leave a message. I now regret that I left my number with the request that they call back with more information, and that I do not give personal info over the phone.

I thought it might be an old disputed medical bill. Now I think it is just a scam............

I have been receiving these calls for about two weeks.  There is always a message to call 888-805-2670 and reference a claim #.  I finally got through to someone and they said that they had a application and this person had listed me as a reference. I do not know the person they named.  I asked her why they said there was a claim against my SS# and she said sometimes the recording gets mixed up as to the message it is leaving.  I asked that my name and number be removed from her list.  We will see what happens.

I pressed 9 and they said they are looking for a John Namoto which isn't me - they said it was the wrong # they only asked for my telephone # they did not ask for my social - probably a collection agency for someone with bad debit - who knows - plus the person who answered did not have an accent

OMG...these freakin people keep calling me and stating everything that everyone else on this page has say "exactly" at first i was scary until i read all your post thank you for letting me know. really i press 1 and waited busy...... so i hung up. damnit really annoying me.
