I got the CUNA text that others reported. However, I received this text within 15 seconds of a call from
561-309-1549 (I never answer calls unless I recognize the #) and wondered if they were related? There were no reports on the 561 number.

I just got a text from 888-810-6944 telling me that my ATM card needed to be reactivated. I called my credit union and they confirmed that this is a phishing scam. DON'T respond.
Rosie 2012-10-22 15:55:34 Unknown
I called the bank I deal with and they told me this message has nothing to do with them. Do not call this number. Just call your bank. They're replacing my card too.

FedChoice has been fraudulently referenced in recent text message smishing scams which have been received via cellphone. Our IT department is diligently working to have the phone numbers shut down to protect our member?s information.
If you have responded to one of these text messages by calling the number and providing the information that is requested, please contact the financial institution that issued the card so that your card may be assessed for fraudulent activity. Steps may then be put in place to help mitigate any resulting damage.
Thank you for your understanding as we work to shut down the phone numbers associated with the latest series of scams.

I received the same text message once last night at 12:15am and again this morning at 9:12am. Not sure how to stop it, the phone number is only a recording asking to activate a card. Assuming this is scam for your debt card number, not clever...
Bernie 2012-10-22 12:57:50 Unknown
Got the same picture message on my cell phone. My debit card was just cancelled because of fraud What a coincidence.

I just got the same call. I missed it so I called back. I thought it was weird cause it was in a picture message? I never heard of these people so I googled them. On their site they warn you about someone running some type of scam. I want to know how they got my number though. Really creepy.
Kaye Cleghorn 2012-10-22 01:56:46 Unknown
Not sure who these people are. I do not have a crdit card with them. Please stop this madness

I got one of these texts a few minutes ago - you can report these to the US Department of Homeland Security's Cyber security division.
This is the US govt. site to report phishing scams - report these kind of scams so they actually get investigated:
http://www.us-cert.gov/nav/report_phishing.html
You can send an e-mail directly to them here:

Just got a text from this number. Ironically, my debit card has been frozen all weekend by my financial (institution obviously for good reason), so when I got this text I thought it was legit and finally. I called the number and it asks for your full debit card number, expiration AND the kicker, and how I knew it was fake, your 4-digit pin. Yeah, your bank never asks for that. Hopefully others will read this and BEWARE. Hang up, report them, and don't put any information into the automated system.

Both my husband and daughter received similar texts to their cell phones. We do not bank with this company, but if you call the number, they ask for your 16 digit card number, the expiration date and the security code. It is clear that this is a scam phishing for your credit card information.
Law enforcement needs to get involved
