I received the same message with the same confirmation #.
SCAM-U-2 2011-06-06 21:06:03 Unknown
I Received the same letter today, same conf,# same Mark Sims etc... apparently this is a semi legit scam, that is, it's a marketing company that tries to force you into going to a 90 min "Hard Sell" presentation about time share condo's. If you actually survive the 90 min sell job you get the tickets which I've read on the Internet that you do actually get, IF you stick it out for the full 90 mi's.

I received a letter from Finn and Gilliam. "I am pleased to inform you that you have qualified for an award of roundtrip airfare for two. Congratulations. Certain restrictions apply."
Heather in Central, ME 2010-05-15 21:04:11 Unknown
I got one today too. Same details as previously posted by everyone else. I have to admit, the hand written envelope intrigued me but also know if it's too good to be true it probably is... Anyway, I did a search for Finn & Gilliam and found this site: http://www.finnandgilliam.com/au.html. Lo & behold they have a location in Rockland, Me among 3 other US locations. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the "au" in the address extension indicate an Australian business?

Here's a report on the scam (on Facebook) by the Belfast Police Department in Maine:

Ashley 2010-04-21 13:37:33 Unknown
I received the same letter confirmation # 8940 and I just called the number and it is indeed a time share.
Adam-Maine 2010-04-07 16:08:05 Unknown
I also received a letter from Finn & Gilliam, confirmation number 8940, stating that I had qualified for an award of roundtrip airfare for two...from Mark Sims, VP, Travel Awards Division, phone # 888-844-1603. This is definitely a scam, and the envelope address arrived hand written as well. There was no return address on the envelope or letter. I hope no one falls for this crap.
Rosemary 2010-04-07 12:25:32 Unknown
I also got the same letter with confirmation number 8940. I'm from Maine. I'm shredding it.
stablegirl 2010-03-26 10:10:37 Unknown
Thank you all for your input. Mine just hit the trash. Confirmation #8940. Isn't the internet wonderful ! Also from Maine.

Hi - I just received the same letter - no return address on envelope or letter, uncanceled presorted stamp, hand addressed, hand signed and listed Confirmation N0: 8940 (like most of you received). Guess I won't bother to check out the promised $1,4000 round-trip, travel-anywhere airfare for two offer. I have not received a phone call from them, as far as I know, but I have received two--to four hang-up calls every day during this past week. Should the local police be contacted?
Greg from Maine 2010-03-25 18:33:26 Unknown
It sounds like the only thing "scottfree" is free from is a brain. You don't even know these people and you make accusations like that? You couldn't be further from the truth. Maybe you are hiding from your creditors, but not all of us are in your boat. I got the same letter with the same con. number 8940 and I know you don't get anything for nothing
Kelly M 2010-03-25 16:05:49 Unknown
I got the same letter, same confirmation letter!
Ruth from Maine 2010-03-18 15:47:12 Unknown
Has ANYONE gone to the presentation...that is what we need to hear about!!!
ali 2010-03-16 04:44:15 Unknown
Received a letter as well, conf # 8940...bro works for USPS will bring his attention to uncancelled stamp...not calling either.
mack 2010-03-15 17:11:45 Unknown
What a rude and inaccurate presumptive posting, scottfree!! It is nothing of the sort, and if you did your homework, you'd realize how wrong your assumptions are. Calling people "BRAINDEAD" because they are suspicious of something?? That is an interesting approach. The scam has nothing to do with bill collections at all. You are a mean person and shouldn't be so quick to tell people how dumb they are, when in fact, you are the one with poor judgement and deductive reasoning skills.
Judy 2010-03-02 17:38:42 Telemarketer
Received a letter addressed to my late parents' last name and a first initial that doesn't match either one, no return address, no postage no cancellation. How could this have been delivered by the USPS??? I am definitely not calling them back, but this is just plain odd.
Cindy again-Maine 2010-02-26 00:49:38 Unknown
Must not be a credit thing...no debt here either...we are also not being chased by the cops...so not a bait and catch scheme...we also have the #8940...we won't call either...good luck to the lucky one...I did notice no return address on the envelope...scheme!
Jeff - Florida 2010-02-24 00:37:56 Unknown
UPDATE:
No worries, people!
I called the number and it was to schedule an appointment for me and my wife to listen to a travel agency explain why we should use their services.
No obligation of course. In order to "qualify," I had to answer several questions about employment, combined income, and if I have a major credit card. It was actually very low-key and non-threatening. They said I would absolutely receive a voucher for air travel, UP to $1400 value.
Sounds like you sign up for a "subscription" to their services or something and you pay every month for their "discounted" deals, etc.
Mark Sims 2010-02-24 00:27:20 Unknown
Hi,
I got a same letter today and my confirmation number is 2612 and not yours!!! ;) Ha, ha, ha....
Holly in Maine 2010-02-23 21:59:37 Unknown
Geez Scottfree, why so mean?
But I have heard of law enforcement capturing criminals with outstanding warrents this way.
Holly-Maine 2010-02-23 21:56:54 Unknown
Huh. Yup, I have the exact same letter, hand addressed, Confirmation # 8940. Although I have been known to forget a payment once in a while, my credit score is excellent. I wonder if this is indeed another way to trawl for vacation time shares. I'm so Curious though!! Has nobody called them??
Jackie 2010-02-23 21:36:53 Unknown
My husband got one of these, same 8940 confirmation number, weird, huh? Wonder what they're selling.
Randall-Maine 2010-02-23 21:17:22 Unknown
Um, no we are not brain dead. This is not a collection scheme, and I do not hide from my creditors. You better do some research before you make false accusations.
Randall-Maine 2010-02-23 21:13:52 Unknown
Received same letter with confirmation number 8940. No phone call just the letter. By the sounds of things, this one is going around quickly. Think I know where this letter belongs.
Kris ~ Maine 2010-02-23 20:08:27 Unknown
Same letter... FINN & GILLIAM, confirmation number: 8940. States they have been trying to contact me several times without success. Hand signed, envelope is also handwritten with no retun address. Has a presorted stamp, which makes me think this is just some more junk mail. Guess this one is going around quickly, and many in Maine lol.
Rob 2010-02-23 19:52:38 Unknown
I do NOT owe on any credit cards or other bills and I too have received this phony letter. So it is not coming to people who owe on bills. Mine are all caught up and have been for many years.
J.Bluegrass in Maine 2010-02-23 19:21:59 Unknown
Hey Scott, No we are not braindead. It is not a collection agency either, I know this because I am, not nor have ever been delinquent on a bill I owe.
I do believe the scam works like this. You call saying you recieved a letter, They tell you, you've won airline tickets but you have to check out some insurence seminare or a timeshare whatever or maybe you have to book your rooms wherever you go in advance of getting vouchers for flight.
Either way it's most likely a bunch of B.S.
