They just told me they are CAI and they handle personal information and then she started phishing for my info.

I have a Navy Federal Credit Union credit card and recently made multiple $1 purchases over the internet and got a call from this # (888-842-6328) and they left a voice message to call back on 800-704-8950 and I did. Without me entering my credit card # they provided the last four digits of my card after entering the primary phone # on the account. They also said this was not a marketing call and I needed to listen to the entire thing and further asked me enter the zip code to confirm my identity, which I did. They asked if the recent $1 transaction was valid and I confirmed and the call ended (it seemed like they cleared the red flag from the transaction). They did not confirm the other four $1 transactions but just the last one so maybe they did not think those were fraudulent.
Now the fact that they knew the last four digits of my Navy FCU CC confirms this is a valid fraud protection service from Navy FCU.

Received voicemail from this number and called navy fed. They were calling for my son who is not a member (numerous family members are). They checked everywhere, even the fraud department and found no record of anything. All we can figure is that the number was spoofed. Now my son has to check his credit report!

You can download an app that mimics any number you choose including this one!! You are way behind the times sir. Beware b/c they would have got you.

Our son got a call from that # & I was suspicious b/c of the comments here. The call back # the live person gave me was, indeed, the contact # from their website. Check for yourself: https://www.navyfederal.org/contact-us.php

Just got a call from this toll free number claiming to be NFCU. Absolutely a FRAUD. Asking for more information and reading my middle initial wrongly. I called NFCU using the same number and warned them about protecting their toll-free numbers. I also changed my password and added another layer of security.

If you guys pay attention that's the number behind your nfcu card, how can it be a fraud of it's printed behind the card. Come on ppl pay attention not everything is a conspiracy.
That guy 2013-08-22 17:57:03 Unknown
just called nav fed... they told me that that is there number but someone can mask their number with that number to get information from you and if you feel uncomfortable then you should call the number yourself because if there is any reason they need to call you then there will be a note on your account for all the branches to see. also never give more than your last 4 over the phone and they will never ask for the full ssn and they will never ask for specific account information i.e. numbers and passwords.

"as and actual sailor" I know we go through boot... and what are you trying to prove? no internet person cares if you made it or not honestly. its called boot camp some people do call it basic training but its still boot.
Brad 2013-08-22 17:31:47 Unknown
the navy does have a boot camp I went through it... shows how smart marines are...

I received a call from 888-842-6328. The caller ID said U.S. Govenment but the message said it was Navy Federal. When Navy Federal has called in the past it has always been a real person and the caller ID says Navy Federal. I haven't checked into it, but I'm treating it as a scam.

I received 2 calls from this number but missed the calls. Turns out it was my son calling from Parris Island. He is in his last week of boot camp and was given permission to call home. After I didn't pick up, he called and spoke with my wife from the same number.

The 888-842-6328 is the 24/7 member service line. I call it all the time to do by banking by phone.
Shaun 2013-07-04 16:37:19 Unknown
The number is on the back of your NFCU credit card.
Arlo 2013-01-27 19:30:57 Unknown
Got a call fom this number on a Sunday afternoon on my cell phone. I have no accounts with this "Navy Credit Union" and so I feel this is a fraudulent call.
Jeff NFCU customer 2013-01-23 22:53:35 Non-profit Organization
They left a message regarding Navy Federal account. This is the same phone number that is printed on the back of my credit card, so it's definitely legitimate. I checked here first, rather than answering call.
Caller ID showed "MARINE CORPS LO", and the message was pre-recorded with my name inserted.

JohnnyNoName you sound like the idiot in this case. It's NFCU and generally if you let it go to voicemail it will be a machine voice telling you to call back since some activity may have triggered fraud on your credit or debit card but sometimes it is for other things. If it's the credit fraud line you just have to verify a few purchases or they will just put a hold on your card until you can verify it. I appreciate their fraud system. If you're concerned about giving a caller your information, just call the number on the website or back of your card and they'll transfer you to complete the process. Even though it may be a live caller at first, when it goes to voicemail it's often automated.
JohnnyNoName 2012-11-11 16:30:04 Unknown
DEFINITELY NOT Navy Federal. Clients must be careful not to give out any information to these scams. As an actual United States Marine, I can tell you, you're average idiot knows that the Navy doesn't have "boot camp." Only the Marine Corps. calls it that. The shmuck that posted previously stating that it's a legit phone call is obviously in on the scam as well. Nowadays, it's extremely easy for me to call you and someone else's phone number to show up on your caller ID. Heck, there's even "an app for that" on the iPhone, as apple would say.
Jacqueline 2012-10-05 17:27:20 Unknown
Got a call from this number and didn't answer it, however, if it was, in fact NFCU, I have not had an account with them for over 14 years, when I closed that account, so they would have no reason to call me and never have before now. There likely are real calls that come from NFCU, but there also are likely calls that mask the number and use another just to make people feel like it's not a scam. Be very careful, criminals are very smart.
JJ 2012-09-16 15:24:37 Unknown
I wish stop calling.
Tiffany A 2012-07-02 22:55:01 Unknown
This is Navy Federal Credit Union. This number showed up when my local branch was calling me to pick up my new debit card.
Paul Bunyun 2012-05-17 19:38:00 Unknown
You will never get a call from a 1800 number or 1888 number. those numbers are for incoming calls to the business or company paying the long distance fee for you.
Andrew S 2012-03-01 23:47:23 Unknown
Not a fraud. Go look at their official website, in the Contact Us section. That's their main call center line.

Got a couple calls from this number. Turned out to be Navy Federal, they verified it was them when I called them (at a different number). Activity on my credit card had triggered a fraud alert. Sure enough, there were some erroneous charges I didn't make.
I informed them he caller ID did say Unknown Caller which made me suspicious.
bilbo 2011-11-29 22:45:21 Unknown
Got the call from this number and let roll to VM. It was NFCU and it was a live person. They were just informing me a new branch had opened nearby. No biggie.
Tee 2011-11-10 14:15:02 Unknown
I received several calls from this number as well but instead of calling back the number provided, i called the actual number for Navy Federal customer service. The Navy Federal representative said that if the call came from them there would have notes in the system to indicate that I was being informed of credit card fraud. There were no notes in the system; hoever, I was unsure about certain charges on my account so I canceled the card to be on the safe side. To this day I am not sure if it is a scam or not but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
BEK 2011-08-25 14:04:23 Unknown
Look at the back of your NFCU credit card. 888-842-6328 is the number on the card.
Lisa B 2011-08-19 17:32:25 Unknown
This is legit, as it just happened to me. I called NFCU directly and told them about the voicemail and the number I was supposed to call to verify the charges. They told me the number on the message is their automated fraud line, but if I was ever concerned about any messages left by NFCU to call them directly and they will connect me to the fraud department.
