The Best Promotions Company did the same thing to my mother by leaving a flyer on the door saying they missed her when she was actually home. She called them and they offered her a free fruitbasket and carpet cleaning. They set an appointment for 11 - 12 pm today but mom called me when she got a little nervous about. I looked it up on the internet by name and phone number and sure enough there it was. It is definitely a scam. don't let your parents be fooled. I called the police and they said we couldn't do anything until the scam happened. Thanks alot! I called two times and finally got ahold of the company and told them to cancel the appt and don't ever call her again. The operator said " she called us". I told her yeah, from your phoney flyer. She said it wasn't phoney and then I just told her I have called the police and don't ever bother her again. She responded the appointment is cancelled. Please all of you beware, our parents mean well but they just don't understand.

I also received the green notice for a fruit basket taped to the front of my house. I called the no. and these Guy anwsered telling me that this fruit Basket is a free gift from a new store that is opening up in our area. He asked for my address and I gave him our street no. and declinned to give him the name of our street realizing that I had just made a mistake. I told him that I am busy and won't be home this week. He then said how about saturday at 1:00 and then I realized that this is weird, I told him no and he got mad and hung up on me. Lol! what an idiot.

I just got back from my walk and noticed the green post-it on my house near the garage door (away from the front door). When I saw the note I thought it was a sales pitch and I confirmed it by calling the number. What a sleazy way to make money. That also includes the pathetic troll that sticks these things to your house. Menifee, CA

I also recieved a green free fruit basket notice today 10/7/2010 in Rancho Cucamonga Ca.  I was home and no one knocked or rang the doorbell.  They might be testing the area for potential future crimes.  The might be seeing how many people are home in the area durring the daytime. Also seeing the general activity in the area. ie.  people outside or if neighbors seem to watch out for each others homes.  Be on the look out.  The number on the notice was 888-847-7774

I live in N. Calif.  My 90+ mother called me and said that a real scraggly looking person ( poor guy .at least he's seeking work) rang the bell .. even though a large "NO SOLICITORS" sign was on the front gate.  Before she could get to the door he had left leaving the above number to call and the same offering, a fruit basket.  Thankful that she called me ( she was curious, but not dumb) ...I told her I would look it up.  Thank you for this web site and the postings as I am 500 miles away and now can explain other peoples experiences to her.  One thing she did say was that the person who left the note and rang the bell rattled the locked wrought iron gate as if he was trying to get it open . Be care ful " out there" my friends....

I was sitting in my front room, my dogs were barking and the person stuck the "Sorry we missed you" flyer in my door jam. It might help if they weren't such chickens and rang the door bell once. When I tried the number (our number is always blocked) I got a message that the number could not be reached as dialed.

I received the green note, too.  Ineterestingly enough, my husband and I were home at the time they dropped it off.  They neither knocked or rang the doorbell.  I called the number after reading the other posts (also using *67 to block my number).  The person that answered sounded very professional and, after asking for my zipcode, offered the free basket of fruit and a free carpet cleaning to celebrate the company's 35 year anniversary in order to generate more business through word of mouth.  I declined.

These guys are semi-regular visitors to our neighborhood in North Claremont. I googled the phone number and came across many messages that are all very similar to the ones listed here--it's all a sleazy hustle.

So - I received a green notice on my door step saying "sorry we missed you - you may call for your fruit m-f"; the notice has a ref# and a check next to the kindly phone: 888-847-7774 - I got home late in the evening and tried the phone number out of curiosity, which just rang and rang - no voice mail.  I tried the number again this morning and the line was busy.  So when I got to work, I googled the number and this is the page I got - it sounds like a complete hoax!  Very scary!   Unbelievable the lengths people will go to "trick" you or scam you.  Disappointing!

Addendum:  I called the 888-847-7774 number (first blocking my caller id with *67 so they can't later call us claiming a "prior business relationship" that telemarketers use when they capture you number on caller id).  The number no longer belongs to bestbuydigital, but to best company in Kearny Mesa.  I simply told the person I was not interested in any fruit basket or promotion, but that they need to instruct their canvassers to NOT bang on the door/ring the bells like a maniac and try the doorknobs.  I did give her the reference no. so the idiot can be tracked down, but refused to give her my name/address or any other info.

They are in Del Cerro/Allied Gardens (Best Company Promotions...see also posts regarding 858-565-1461).  The number, however on my "best company promotions" fruit basket notice was 888-847-7774, which belongs to "oneclickdigital.com" and "bestbuydigital" a web company in NY that sells digital equipment.  This co. has an unsatisfactory rating on NY BBB for bait and switch practices.

What was disturbing was the behavior of the individual who left the flyer.  We've had a spate of burglaries in the area, and the perps knock to see if anyone is home.  My dogs went nuts when this joker showed up yelling "Mail call."  He then rang the doorbell several times and banged on the door rapidly.  I am working mid shifts so I didn't answer because I was still in pajamas.  When I heard him jiggling on the doorknob trying to open it, that's when I grabbed my gun.  Thankfully, he left, but he left this flyer wedged in the door.  What kind of idiot tries to just walk right in?
