I do not think this is legit! I am now reporting it to AARP fraud division

I agree. I did call and speak with them because I have a surgery scheduled. They didn't ask anything other than my name and birth date when i first called them back, the same thing that my medical doctors office asks when I call in. It isn't a scam, or a sales call. It's just a nurse line... they asked questions like did I like my current doctor, am i using someone in network, do i have questions about the procedure, etc., does my doctor fit me in if I have an issue that needs immediate attention. I think they take these answers back to UHC almost as a survey. There's being careful, which is good, and being paranoid which might turn people off to a service that they might benefit from.

Unfortunately, I answered all the questions. What should I do to protect my ID?

This is a legitimate call. They are not trying to sell anything whatsoever. The call is to inform you that you can call AARP/United Healthcare to get medical advice from a registered nurse about a current problem to see if you need to go to an emergency department, or if they can provide you with information on how to treat your medical problems.
It is a free service provided by AARP/United Healthcare. I have called them a few times to seek advice, and I have always been treated with respect. The treatment information provided was excellent. They will even call you back, if you like, to monitor your situation.
They don't want you to buy anything. By providing this medical service, they are trying to keep you from seeking expensive medical care, say in a hospital, when you don't need expensive care. It helps them keep their costs down. In tern, they can keep from increasing their premiums to you and me.

The number is for the nurse line for United Health Care Supplemental plans provided through AARP. Are you scheduled to have surgery? Or are you taking prescription medications specific to certain conditions. The number is legitimate. I doubt very seriously that it was a sales call of any type.

Got same call last couple of days, then found this forum. Thanks all for your input. It pays to research. These kinds of calls really P's me off.

This was the call I got, only it used a person's name (it was foreign, so i won't even try to spell it) and let him know that the growth on his neck was cancerous and to call to get oncologists in his area to begin treatment. I have gotten other calls for this person before, and they were legit (from doctors around here that i actually knew, but just for him to call back). I feel horrible for this guy if he really does have extensive issues!!

I had the same concerns, talked to the nurse, and researched the no. online.
It is legitimate. All health insurance and company health plans do this. Search revealed that Oracle and Williams (major companies) post this no. for a nurse advisery service.

I got this call, too. Unfortunately, I gave them my DOB before deciding not to give them any more information. Are they legit?

I returned the call and asked for the person who called but the person who answered did not transfer me to "joann" and said "I can help you", then she asked for my name and date of birth, I said no and that I did not know who they were and she said she could not find out why the call was made unless I gave her my name and DOB. After several questions she told me she was a registered nurse and wanted to talk about "Health Care Options". She was very evasive and I finally hung up, sounds like someone got a customer list with phone numbers and is running a scam. Don't give out any personal information to these people, a name and DOB is all they need to steal your identity!

Second note: to learn more about this, enter 952-367-8000 into the search box. Lots more about this same outfit on there. Be sure to look for the way to get to the next pages (Squares with 1, 2, 3, etc. on them . . . I missed those earlier.)

Thank you for this website! Came home to a message (that showed on the Caller ID as United Health Group, 952-367-8000), that said registered nurses wanted to speak to me about . . . something. Since the AARP arm of supplemental health insurance has "United" in it, it certainly made it sound as though there were some medical issue that they needed information about. But my suspicious senses said, this could easily be a sales call. If it's a billing issue, it would not be coming from "registered nurses." And if it's a health issue, it should be coming from my doctor or hospital's offices. So it pays to slow down, think about these phone calls, and this check this website. I will not be returning their call.
