Ive had to deal with these people more times than i care i discuss... To this day, they still havent got it right.  It's Clearwire, and they breached their end of the contract in more ways than one -- scary part is, if you have a good firewall installed and keep track of the log, every two or three seconds they scan your computer trying to find opened ports to get into (like a hacker would do with a virus).  I kept all my logs...  Literally thousands of attempts in ant given session.

However, I found that the term "great minds think alike" goes both ways.  After successfully over-charging my credit card the first time, I just went in and changed my payment method to a card with nothing available on it (they can charge all day long for all I care - can't squeeze water from a rock..)

Lol what's with the cliches?

Clearwire is a sucky company.  They charged my credit card twice after I had asked them to take my card number off of my account.  They finally got the hint when I threatened to sue for fraud.  Now, they're calling me about 10 times a day for their modem.  I'm sending it back when it's convenient for me since they charged my card when it was convenient for them.

Im doing the same thing. they tried saying i owe them for a month of service but i told the guy who called last that my bank account was negative over $200 due to three clearwire charges (in less the two months) and when a forth charge was attempted bank finally declined it. so clearly he was a jack*** and very very stupid if he thought he could call me over and over and over again and force money out of me, when clearly they had been paid already. i called him a few more names then let him know they would recieve their equipment when i recieved a check for the money i was over charged and the overdraft fees they cause me.
they keep calling, like it will help. just makes me angrier and want to keep their s**t more

And another point that I left out!

If you subscribe to the Clear service, you will get a Clear-branded Google email account.   DO NOT USE that account for anything.  Clear doesn't even use it to send invoices, receipts or service notices.  When you cancel your Clear service, the Clear mailbox will die, taking all of your stored email straight to hell.

(Google is a co-owner of Clear along with Sprint, Microsoft, Comcast, Cox, Charter, and TimeWarner Cable.  Those cable companies all invested $20 million each to offer Clear wireless internet service under the cable company's brand.)

You will likely be disappointed with using Clear wireless service.  It runs off the Sprint towers in your area, so if Sprint cell service is not good where you plan to place the modem, then don't expect anything better with the Clear wireless modem service.

With all of the promotional offers and resellers in your area, please take note of this fact: it is easy for the service to be oversold in your area, meaning that your available bandwidth will be severely limited.  To understand how this could be, consider the fact that cell calls last only a few minutes on average, whereas internet surfing sessions can last for hours.  Throw in a few idiots downloading movies and the tower shifts into a crawl.

I was paying for 3mb service, but never got better than 1mb downloads and just 50kb uploads.  Yes, my uploads on Clear were no faster than the plain old telephone service (POTS) dialup modems on my old 486.

Clear service is poor whenever it rains and shuts down whenever there is a windy storm.  For you night-owl surfers, take note: the damn system shuts down about 2:00-4:00am for maintenance.

While Clear advertises unlimited service, that is a complete lie.  From looking at your own data usage chart on your online Clear account, you will a tiny reference to a GB limit.  I never hit that limit, but be assured that when you do, your service will likely be "throttled" back to a much lower speed to make room for others on the system.

If you have a technical problem, please understand that the first line of support involves a lot of non-help from an imbecile at a call center.  Please be prepared to be cut off your chat or phone call if they cannot understand your problem.  If you are fortunate enough to get a real techician, please understand that he is at another call center that does not have Clear wireless internet service in the office and can't relate to your frustrations as an actual user.

If you read this far and still want to try Clear service, then protect yourself by following these steps:

First, get a Bank of America credit card (not any of their FIA or MBNA-issued cards for other entities) and then sign up for online banking.  When on the BOA site and logged in to your account, click on the SHOPSAFE link so you can create a temporary VISA card number to use for online use.  You get to pick a low credit limit for not more than a few dollars over the expected charge, and choose an expiration date not less than the end of two full calendar months.  BOA Shopsafe will then generate a fascimile of a VISA card with the new temporary credit card number, expiration date and the three-digit CVN number that ordinarily appears on the back of a plastic card.

With Clear, your credit limit will need to be much higher for the first charge:  on my $108 initial order, they will try to get a nonsense authorization for $158 or more.  Adjust your SS card for $160 and let the authorization go through so they can send the $108 charge.  My card didn't work the first time, so I called to find out why and was told that they were trying to authorize the higher amount.  Once a SS card has been established with a specified limit, it cannot be reduced, nor can the expiration date be shortened.  However, you can cancel the SS card number after the transaction is processed and then obtain another SS card number to use for the recurring monthly charge.

The additional safety feature of the SS card number is that it cannot be used anywhere else but the original vendor where you first used it, so the number cannot be hacked or stolen and reused elsewhere.  While that feature may be so beneficial with Clear, this next feature is extremely helpful:  you can stop further charges by simply cancelling that Shopsfe VISA number by going back to your BOA account online.

If you want to keep the Clear service running, then simply go online and increase the available credit limit and expiration date.  Be sure to go to your Clear account online and update the credit card information so your service won't drop dead when the card runs out.  You will not be able to go online to either review or renew your Shopsafe credit card staus.  You will need to keep a copy of the SS card number near the computer where you use the modem, and stay on top of this.

I do not recommend getting the modem on the two-year deal, no matter how free you think your Clear modem will be.  Buy it outright up front for the $70 charge, plus activation and shipping and sales tax.  When you get it, plug it in and see if you get no less than FOUR-bar (out of 5) service consistenly.  If it dips to three bars or less intermittently or when people move about the room, then you will NOT want to keep the modem.

This is a key point in determining whether you will want to keep Clear service; do not kid yourself by thinking that 3-bar service will do.  3-bars work fine for cell phones, but not so for internet service.  Don't fall for the tech support advice to relocate the modem elsewhere in another room or to reposition it by turning it so the Moto logo is facing another direction.  The modem does NOT have a rotating antenna, which means that the wired end is facing you with the wires running over your work area.  The Moto modem does NOT have an external antenna jack, either, an awful shortsighted design error by Motorola.

Do not bother with an exchange, as the delay will only run out your short trial and return period.  You must call them for a RMA to return the modem, if you did not get it from a local dealer.  Send it back by the method indicated on the return authorization, or if by the PO, use only priority mail service with insurance AND return receipt requested.

At this point, you should cancel the Shopsafe card number so that they can't continue to charge the monthly fee by playing dumb in claiming that you did not return the modem.  Don't worry a bit about cancelling the number, as any credit for the returned modem will still apppear on your BOA account; BOA still remembers the SS card numbers for processing credits, even though they are no good for running new charges.

When you decide to cancel, you cannot do so online by email or by chat.  You will be directed to call another number where they will stall and dilly-dally dicking you around to talk you out of cancelling your Clear service.  Hang in there and get the cancellation completed.  Keep all of the details about who you called and spoke with, and when... forever.  Clear could still pursue you later for a cancellation fee, even if you purchased the modem and still have it.

BEFORE you cancel, be sure that you have downloaded all copies of the modem purchase receipt and the monthly service bills.  Clear does not send any paper, or even send any invoices by email unless you can find the option in your online account.

If you decide to resell your purchased modem, the you will need to have a paper receipt to give to the new owner showing that you sold him a purchased, not leased, modem.  Clear will not otherwise let a new user connect with any modem without that proof.  You will not get it when you cancel the account.

Given all of the information above, why in the hell would you ever consider getting Clear interenet service and then dealing with all of the hassle later?  You'll need to be pretty desperate to need it, for sure!

BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't give them your credit card number!!!!!!  I tried their service for about 33 days. It took them 2 weeks to get my phone number transferred. When I started using the phone, about every other word was dropped and my fax machine worked sometimes. I canceled the service after about 33 days. They charged my card $181.80. Everything they tell you up front is bull s***. Don't believe a word they say.

I got a magic jack account just so I'd have a phone # to give billing companies...or places I don't want calling me later with sales calls.  At $19.95 a year it's well spent money for a change, that way if something goes wrong I don't get harassed by auto phone dialers.  It goes to voicemail automatically and if I ever needed to be reached they can leave a number or I'll leave it on to receive phone calls thru caller id screened of course.  google and skype products have an even better method of blocking callers before they even get to you but personnaly when they get stupid I think them paying more for calling me and never getting me is a fitting punishment for the crime of phone harrassment.

This company's  automated system called regarding someone unknown to me.  I called the back, got a human being to answer and asked that my number be removed.  They allege someone else spoofed my telephone number.  They assert a supervisor removed my number, but that remains to be seen.

i mailed a letter (as per the instructions in the very small print - to the address provided) and was still being charged every month.  when i called to cancel the service because it never worked, the person on the other end argued with me for several minutes.  said they never got he letter and sked who told me to send a letter, that i should have called.  told me i should let a neighbor or friend use it (and me still pay for it).  i had to BEG to get my account cancelled.  he couldn't understand simple logic that i would rather pay the cancellation fee than continue to pay for a service for 2 years that never worked.  now they are calling day & night to collect.  i have refuted the charges with my credit card company...i'll see how that goes...

In my area Clearwire switched to an upgraded signal in Oct.2009, which doesn't reach my location. I received their old signal perfectly. After calling them, they told me to send back the modem and they'll stop charging me. Well, of course they continued taking funds from my account, so I closed out the card to stop Clearwires theft. I receive two calls a day from multiple numbers,888-870-7281 and some that show up as unknown.
Seriously, if you have a problem with Clearwire, close out your card or report it as lost and DON'T CALL CLEARWIRE or answer their calls, it is not
worth the headache. From my research online and personal experience and frustration no one seems to get anywhere with them !!!

DO NOT GO WITH CLEARWIRE.  I called on October 22, 2009 when my contract was up. Had to talk to three different people and finally they agreed to send me UPS labels, but I still owed until the modem was returned. Well I got the email and guess what, the link was expired. I called them back and let them know and was informed that if the modem was not returned by October 29 I would owe another month, and this call took place on October 29. Once I got through the think skull of the person I was talking to, she claimed they would send out the labels via US mail and I should see them in a couple of days. Guess what, the labels showed up a week later, and they still want me to pay.

please tell your friends that never sign up with this clearwire company. they really just ripping people off. their internet is very slow and they make you to sign this two year contract and then if you move to a state that they don't have service there they tell you - you have to still pay for the internet until two years is over. Why if I have to move due to un foreseen situation I have to still pay for the internet that I am not using! this is not business this is stealing money form people. I had to canlce the service and pay the whole cancelation fee

One way to prevent clearwire from charging you after you have canceled the contract and returned the modem is to call your bank.  Tell them that you've lost the credit card, the one that clearwire is billing, and that you need a new card.  You'll have a new card within a week or so, and Clearwire won't be able to bill the old one.  Seems to have worked for me with US Bank.
