This is the third time I've gotten a call like this to my business cell line.  I got two from a man about a month ago and nothing ever happened.  Now I just received one today, this time a woman named Ashley Miller.  Said she was calling from St. Francois county (I live no where near there)...pronounced it wrong (which if you live in MO you don't pronounce it wrong, trust me)...gave a call back number to Maryland!!  443-282-1544...Said she will come to my house between 3 and 5 pm tomorrow.  Here's the best part...called me completely by the wrong first name!!  Apparently my name is now Cheryl!!!  Who are these people doing this stuff?  Can't block them because they call from "Unknown" numbers!!!

I just received the same call and she left a message stating, "This is Samantha and I have a letter of intent to appear in court for you to sign.  I am leaving the office in a couple of hours and will see you in a couple of days to sign the papers.  Please call this number at 877-275-6548 about case #......"  At first, I freaked out. After a moment,  logic kicked in...1) I looked at my caller ID and it said private number, 2) I live in SC and the call back number is to New York and 3)  my research led me to this site which confirms my suspicions about this phone call.  I am reporting them asap!  In the meantime, how do you get them to stop calling you?  Thanks for all posts and feedback!

I believe this tactic is in use by debt collectors.

My understanding of the credit reporting system is that the collector wants you to react by calling them.  In so doing, it makes the reporting status of that debt as recent and it possibly restarts the 7 year credit reporting on the debt, as well as raises the importance of the debt as it relates to your credit score.

To Debt Collectors:  If you have a notice for me to appear in court, send it.  I'm here.

The name of the company is:

Recovery Process Systems
3380 Sheridan Dr
Amherst, NY
14226

888-871-0884 is the number they called me on.

Prior to my calling this company, I received an anonymous call from a person who identified himself as Blake, and gave me the information for Recovery Processing Systems. He said that he would be at my residence on Wednesday to serve me with litigation papers to appear in court for a payday loan that defaulted. In Pennsylvania, payday loans are illegal. If you get a call from this company, call a lawyer that sues abusive debt collectors. It is illegal for a company to make calls to debtors like this.

Did anyone show up?  I got the same call, they said they are coming on the 7th.  I tried to call, however the last 4 digits of my social didn't match what they told me.  But they had my address and phone number.  They would not tell me anything, but said the processor would still be coming.

No one ever showed up anywhere, and never called again.  However, I just got ANOTHER phone call today, from a different "processor" saying I need to call Michael Falyn at 714-982-9755, and that since I wasn't aware of the "lawsuit" that she would fax him to let him know and that would give me a 2 hour extension to call.  lol.  This is getting completely ABSURD.  Is there nothing we can do to stop this?  They keep calling at my office.  The first time I got one I almost had an anxiety attack, but now I just completely ignore them, thanks to websites like these.

Legit collectors per section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf *must* tell you at initial contact, or send you paperwork within 5 days of initial contact, the following:
1. $amount of debt,
2. name of the current creditor (which may differ from the original creditor who might have sold your debt),
3. a statement that that debt will be assumed to be valid unless you dispute in writing within 30 days,
4. a statement that that if you do dispute in writing within 30 days, the collector must mail you written verification of the debt,
5. a statement that if you ask the collector in writing within 30 days, the collector must send you the name and address of the original creditor if it's different from the current creditor.
If you don't get the 5 disclosures, orally or in writing (you do not have to ask for it, the FDCPA requires it), treat the collector like you would any SCAMMER. Scammers are using bought/hacked loan application data to extort payments for fictitious debts from victims and victims' families and friends.
The FBI warns about payday loan extortion scams here http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/paydayloanscam_120710
The BBB has issued several alerts on this scam, just google "bbb.org alert phony debt collector"
Report to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.

I've gotten an email from a Dr. Robert Wilborn... It is no doubt a scam and now I see what I have to look forward to.  Did any of you respond to a classified on craigslist re: a personal assistant position?

The ad was decent grammar etc...... unlike the email that I got back regarding the position yesterday
requesting more information.    Hey Folks! He has my address, phone number, schools that I attended and work history.  Says that he is out of the country and needs for me to run errands for him.  I'll save the emails for when I have to go to the police department to take out the restraining order.

I got the call today.  First it came from a blocked number and the girl said that I had notice to appear in court.  She said it seemed like a big deal and asked me what I did.  I said I don't know.  She then directed me to call the number and gave me a case number and said good luck before hanging up.  I called the number and supposedly it was a lawyer saying I would be served in two day.  So he said he would mitigate with his client.  He put me on hold twice during the call to speak with his client, even though it sounded like he was outside.  He said his client would settle for different amounts either all at once or spaced out.  I said sure, just fishing for information.  I asked him would I go to court if I didn't agree to pay.  He said yes and that I didn't want to go that route.  My sister is a lawyer so ok.  He then asked for my credit card number which is when I hung up.  He then called me back from a New York cellphone number. (716) 462-4471    A few things that tipped me off: the unprofessionalism of both callers.  The fact that the lawyer who was mitigating between me and his "client" used my entire social security number.  If he was a real lawyer he would know that's a no-no if you're trying to build a case.  He also was a lawyer asking for my credit card number.  be weary people.  The scams are getting serious.

I got the same message from the same Michelle Black, and today got a 2nd message to make sure I got the first message, lol.  But I can't call her back b/c there is no number and she doesn't tell me her number, and when I call the 888 number it's some weird automatic recording and I can't even figure out what the company is or get any one to answer.

So, my question is, is this legit?  I feel like it isn't from everything I've read, but also, if this lady is coming to everyone's home or residences, she must taking the red-eye everywhere, because I'm sure all of you don't live in my city.

I don't even have a clue as to what this "claim" is from or anything, and apparently no way to find out.  Wouldn't my name come up in a county records search if I were supposed to appear in court?  Because it doesn't show anything for me.

I have a transcription service.  Here's the voicemail transcript. This is totally illegal and I will pursue these people further. They called my home and every number on my family cell phone plan including my 17 year old stepson.

My name is Michelle Black. I'm calling regarding some paper work that I received in my office today. It was forwarded under your name and Social Security number. I'd like to give you advice that I do have request to have you sign for certified notice of intent for you to appear in court in front of (??) litigation. It looks like it's regarding a claim that's being filed against you. Before I went ahead and stop by your residence,  your place of employment, to have you sign for this, I did wanna provide you with a courtesy call and inform you that you are being placed on my schedule for service. Also if you have any questions pertaining to the claim, you do need to contact the (??) office directly at 888-871-0884. Claim number is
