Got a text supposedly from the Treasury Department FSU telling me my ATM has been suspended and to call this number. Does anyone actually fall for these scams?

Received a text on my cell on 12/15/09. "This is an automated message from Treasury Dpt FCU. Your ATM card has been suspended. To reactivate call urgent at 18888802884."
This is a phishing/smishing attack attempt. Don't call the number or respond to the text.

I got a text from this number telling me my ATM card was suspended. They state that they are Treasury agents (a federal offense).

Sure enough. I called TDFCU and they confirmed it was a scam. Not only that, but most credit unions and banks will not text you with notices like this. I don't know about you all, but another give-away was that it was sent from "No Caller ID".

I got the same text as mentioned above...and I don't even have an TDFCU account so I knew immediately that it is a scam.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's getting texts like this. Strange thing was, I got it on both of my phones. My work phone first, and then my personal phone minutes later.

It is a crime to ID yourself as a federal agent unless you are one. So I went to ic3.gov and reported this text message phishing attempt to the FBI. They may or may not do anything about it, but it made me feel a little better about it.
