Debt Collector
ha my night just got ruined. just checked my credit report and saw the debt these ppl called about back in 2011 was listed still as in collections 3 years after I paid them. also the amount on my report is for half of what I gave them. I wish I would have seen this site back then. I didn't bother looking up the number to verify. I knew I had the debt that I hadn't paid on in a long time with hsbc and thought that interest gained a lot. plus they sounded professional and were calling to set up a time to serve me papers.  great scare tactics Ms Liz Lorez, I think her name was (or who ever you are these days). as soon as I saw that on my report I dug through old boxes of papers and found the one I wrote the number and my case number down on. called the 888-883-9029 number on it to see if I could get a hold of any one and it now connects to " CONGRATS! Just for dialing you get a complementary 2 night cruise" hot line  b.s.  I wish there was a way to get in contact or find out what there new number or new company identity is these days. and be able to report them. but I fear the time has come and gone. any suggestions?

After HOURS trying to track down this debt, I've been led to Crown and numbers that no longer function...but now a TRS & Associates is calling me, all of your story is true to me, too.

wondering what your outcome was on this?  I've experienced the same, and cannot track down any legit company- the people calling have changed the name of the company 3 times in convo, have the correct acct number, but refuse to prove the debt...what happened after your portion of the story below?

I got a call from a guy today - I work in a legal department for a collection firm - guess what I do for a living??? I do what they are claiming to do - People who "threaten" to have you served, will almost never do it. (despite the law saying you cannot make those types of statements without intending to follow through - I occasionally speak to debtors we are about to sue on but do it in a polite, professional manner and often make suitable payment arrangements with people - I do not call on old old stuff - I call on stuff that is fairly recent and is currently still with the original creditor - I asked this guy who the creditor was and he only wanted to provide me a number to call (which I did not call and will not call)

Bottom line here - do not be bullied and do not pay anyone who threatens, calls on blocked lines, can't answer easy questions...

If you ever were actually served, then you go to your atty and get his professional help/advice.

I am willing to discuss with anyone who gets nervous or afraid by one of these calls - feel free to email me at matuny1@yahoo.com (thats right - my real last name - I have nothing to hide)

Got called at work by someone asking was I at home so that I can be served. I was then given a number (714) 975-6943 to call for more info. When I called I spoke to a woman who asked me my name and then I was transferred to Wayne Allen. Wayne told me I owed for an old bank acct and I needed to pay $1300 or I would be served and if I went to court I wouldn't win and I would end up having to pay $4300. I was very scared. Knew I had a debt but had never been approached in this manor. Told I needed to make a payment of $300 and then two other payments of $500 or they would proceed with action against me. Never heard of this company before and Wayne stated he mailed me a letter. I actually offered to make the $300 payment, but I wanted something in writing. I received an email from Wayne and when I looked up the address located on the letterhead of the email, it came up as a UPS in Orange,Ca. I knew something wasnt right at that point. Immediately called my States Attorney Generals office to file a complaint and then called the FTC as well to do the same.    Until I get verification this is a real company, I am not taking any calls and I will report them if they call me at work again. If they serve me they serve me, but they will hear from my lawyer at that point

I received a call today from a Shawn Meyers at HNRE stating i ignored the "packet of documents" sent 6 weeks ago and that i now assumed the debt was valid. he gave me my old address they said they sent the packet to. well i notified him i moved in january of this year and he said "thats not my problem you never received the papers." he said i owe money due to a bank account i closed last year kept insisting i paid today or he would garnish my wages and liquidate my bank account/take my car. i called the bank found out the debt changed hands 4 times the last 2 being crown funding and HNRE. do i pay or talk to an attorney? i have not been served any kind of paperwork as of yet for them to take anything from me.

No they don not then can not and what they are doing is illegal.  I suggest to you to get an attorney ASAP, read through the information posted about this cmpany just google the number, you will get plenty of information as to who they are, file a complaqint with Attorney General in California and the state you live in.  Get a lawyer they can be sued and served.

The same thing happened to me today.  I got a message about a complaint they were looking into and an important legal issue I needed to contact them about immediatly.  I thought I was in some kind of trouble.  I called the number they left and was transfered 3 times before I got that same John on the line.  He wanted to put me on hold again and I said that I needed some information from them as far as what this is concerning and who they are and he got rude and said I was being curt and rude and I obviously wasnt interested in their settlement deal and they would just sue me and I would be served paperwork tomorow.  Everything I asked past that point was I was wasting his time and wasnt ackownledgeing my debts or paying my bills.  Very insultive.  He said that they would garnish my bank account and wages and my personal assets.  I asked if they would take my car.  He said no they would just intercept my vehicle payments and take those.  So today I pulled all of my money out of my bank account, huge inconvienence but I didnt know what to do just in case this is real  I didnt want to pay my house payment and have them garnish my bank account and loose my house.
Does anyone know if they follow through on serving people or garnishing wages?
I'm very scared.

File a complaint with the Attorney General Office in California and the state you live in.  Send them nothing and know your rights, they can not garnish your wages.  I am in the process of suing them and I recommend you do the same, they are breaking every law.  DO NOT LET THEM INTIMIDATE YOU, THEY ARE JUST SCUM.  I will be posting the outcome of the lawsuit, stay tuned.

THEY ARE GETTING SERVED

Find a lawyer and sue their a**. Their fax number is 1-714-985-6638.  The manager is Peter Line whom you will never get to talk too if he really exsists. File complaints with the Attorney General Office in California and the state you reside in.  Provide what ever information you can to help locate these scumbags and never send them anything without asking for proof of the debt.

The best thing you can do is track down the original debt, and call to see who bought it and so on you will find a trail and you will find out who sold your debt to whom.  My debt ended up with Crown Funding Source who sold it too TR Discoveries and Verification.  Would be curious to see who else has Crown Funding Source in their trail, somehow I believe they are part of this as well.

You need to file a complaint with the Attorney General in the state of California and also the state you live in.  If enough complaints are sent they will do something about it but if no-one takes the time to file a formal complaint with the Attorney General nothing will be done to stop these collectors who seem to think we are all really stupid and continue to break the law and are getting away with it.

i received the same type of call.  they were going to serve me papers at work for legal action.  i spoke with the FTC and they believe it is a scam,  i was told they will run a credit check on you and look for late or outstanding debt and therefore appear to be a collection agency,  they also will find personal info on you if you apply for a loan online.
i called them back to test them and asked for a physical address to make a payment and they hung up.

based on my conversation with the FTC here are somethings to be aware of with companies like this
would not send proof of debt
an attorney or collection agency must identify themselves this company would not tell me what business they were in
no physical address anywhere on the internet
no website

do not give them personal info or money

i had the exact problem.  they told me i would be served with papers at work and that they were litigators.  after contacting the FTC i learned that it is a scam.  they will find info on you by running a credit check and looking for late or outstanding debts, they also will get personal info if you apply for a loan online.  they do not have website and i could not find any information on them other than complaints.  when i called them back i asked for a physical address so i could make a payment they hung up.  even when i offered money they would not give me a physical address.  the only address i could find that was ever related to this company was that of a UPS store.

according to the FTC here is where they went wrong
they would not reveal what there business was, an attorney or collection agency must identify themselves
they threatened legal action and portrayed themselves as litigators
they would did not send proof of debt upon request
no physical address
no website

do not give them any info and do not offer to make a payment

Ok so I was stupid enough to fall for this scam yesterday. I have since cancelled my credit card account. I was told papers were to be filled against me today and this guy "John Mason" said that if I didnt pay $1700.00 I'd have to go to court and pay $3389.00. I then gave them my cc info. I am so frustrated b/c they are harrasing me on my job, calling my family b/c I cancelled the credit card account. I now have an attorney on this matter as of this morning. I WILL be filing suit for harrasement and damages.

Well these guys ruined my day.
I'm not sure if this is a legitimate company that shouldn't be in business or a 100% scam. They first contacted my family and then I contacted them. After being yelled and spoken to in a threatening manner I called the Attorney Generals office to complain. They said they think its a scam and have had multiple complaints. I asked if I could file a complaint with the company. The attorney general's office said in order to do so I'd need an address to send a written complaint to. She said in most cases they will avoid giving you an address, which is precisely what happened when I called. I remained calm when calling but the man I spoke with continued to yell at me, refused to give me an address and then hung up on me. I called back and spoke to a woman who did give me an address out of Orange County California. I then looked up the address and its a UPS store. Before I mentioned anything about filing a complaint or researching their company the woman I spoke with said they are not a debt collector but more of a liaison between me and their client and that Fair Debt Practices do not apply to them. I'm not sure what would make them above the law but I have a feeling the FBI should be informed.
I hope these people are caught and prosecuted. This isn't right. If there is lawsuit against them I would like to be involved.
Good luck everyone and thanks for the advice.

This is another head of the Corona Scam.

They may be faking "debts" using information on old accounts found from pulling credit reports.
Check your credit reports to see if they pulled one recently.  The inquiry might show up under a different name.

Fake "debt collection" scams use shills to try to create the perception that they are legal and legitimate.  They either pretend they "settled", they whine about being "garnished", or they just attack the people reporting on their illegal activities to try to discredit them.

The appearance of shills on complaints against debt collectors making threats is an indicator of a fraudulent fake "debt" extortion racket.

File complaints with FTC.

They called my parents house using the name Officer Johnson a legal matter call their firm. My parents were freaking out thinking it was something criminal. I called the number after hours and got TR discovery v/m which I then googled. I am calling them tomorrow as well as the attorney generals office for falsely impersonating an officer. Also, I haven't lived with my parents in 14 years so they really dig through your info.

called my office and asked what my companys policy was for having someone served at my job. i asked who they wanted to serve and he gave my name. i told them that i was who he was looking for and what was this about. he said he could not tell me because he was from the processors office but gave me a 1800 number to call along with a case number which i did. the man that answered the phone simply answered "hello" when i asked who i was speaking with he hesitated and said his name was john. i told him about the previous call and wanted to know what this was about. he stated that i was being served and when i asked what this was about he stated is was from a credit card in 2007 and i was being sued for $3600.00 which is odd cuz the card only had a $300.00 limit and has been closed. I told him that I would consult my attorney at which point he told me then he wasnt going to speak with me and got an attitude, "john" stated that they will seize my car ( which is not in my name ) , seize my house ( I rent not own ), seize my bank account ( dont have one ) and he can garnish my wages 35%. told him that he could not do that. he said he would settle for an immediate payment of $1700.00. told him that wasnt happening because i am not sure that this is even a valid debt. he asked if i got the letter they sent me and i said i had not , he sarcastically said " oh so now you didnt get the mail  " i told him no i have not , he then says " anyways "he said well then you are being served. i asked when this was happening , he told me that i would be served at my home between 8-12p the very next day . i then asked him since when are people told where and when they are being served, he then hung up on me. That was last week..................papers????  i have talked to several people about this company and it seems like a scam of some sort.

I recieved a call yesterday from these people 1-888-492-3728. They were trying to collect money from a credit card that i had 8 years ago. The balance on the card was 500 dollars and they claimed that i owed $3,300. Supposidly the account has been closed for 8 years but the card still accrued interest over the years. threatened to take my cars, garnish my wages up to 35% and take me to court. was supposed to be served with papers. Where are these papers.

I actually owe quite a considerable amount of debt.  Don't want to get into a ton of details but my particular debt wasn't myself alone but only in my name, if that makes sense.
I make good money and can support myself and my kids, but if they garnish me, I will in serious trouble, because as most single Mom's every penny counts.
The thing is, I do owe the debt.  I don't remember how much I owed.  I don't have any paper work on it.  I contacted the original creditor, they gave me balance but said they no longer own the debt.
This debt shows on my credit report, and although the amount is different from what they told me, it's still high enough to screw with my life.
How does an opponent even win a judgment?  A coworker told me, she was hit with a bank levy without her knowledge- and it was for a credit card.  They took 6k from her. So I KNOW this is real.  I could care less about their "tactics".  I have children and a home to worry about.  I don't have money to pay my debt AND hire an attorney.  I can only do one.  I've spoken w this office several times.  They're not the nicest people, but the debt is real.  I guess my main concern is that even if I find a loophole here, eventually I won't.

My attorney says that when you get served, they don't need a signature, they just need to phsyically hand it to you.  THEN YOU HAVE 30 DAYS TO RESPOND.  If you are who you say you are, respond by going to court, the judge will base your repayment on your income, if you can prove financial hardship.  COLLECTION AGENCIES DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO JUST TAKE ANY DAMN THING THEY WANT.  They have to have a Judge order it, it's called a COURT ORDER.   If debt collectors could do that, there wouldn't be so many credit charge offs, etc, etc, etc...there's this whole process involved.

Just curious, how much was the debt for?  Did the court force a 35% wage garnishment?  What about the bank levy and liquidation?  When they talked to me they tried to convince me I had no legal rights to go to court and let a judge make a decision.  My Attorney says otherwise.
