The Do Not Call list does not cover debt collectors among other exempt nuisance callers.  However, if they continue to call after being informed they have a wrong number you can pursue legal action for harassment but you will first have to send a cease and desist letter via USPS, Certified, Return Receipt.  Could luck getting an address out of them.  Also, a woman in West Virginia was just awarded $10 million in damages from a collection agency but sees little hope of ever getting a dime from them so even if you sue and win, you may not ever collect.

Debt Collector
I got a call three times from these people.  Two with messages that my bank returned an item, and that I was to call this number 888-891-4850 to make arrangements for settlement.  Naturally I assumed this was a hoax, and I would call them back and have some fun with them.  They gave me a process number to identify myself to them, #399120.  Some woman with a rude manner and garbled speech, had to be asked three times to identify her company.  She said it was the Jacobs and Greenburg Law Firm, and that they were looking for a Becky something or other.  When I told her that I was not becky, she said " you won't be receiving any more calls from us" then hung up on me.  I didn't even have a chance to threaten them with my being on the national "do not call list", and that I would be seeking monetary penalties for their next call.

There is NO debtor's prison in the US any more!  You can't be arrested for not paying a bill!!!!!
ONLY law enforcement can "serve" you with papers to appear.  These people are trying to scare you.
Demand that they send the arguement against you to you in writing!!!!!!!!

I got the same call, Mr. Allen called and left a voicemail, I called and talked to Ryan Syllivan who was really nice. After talking to my coworkers I came and researched the laws for my state. The law in TX

Unless the citation or an order of the court otherwise directs, the citation shall be served by any person authorized by Rule 103 by
delivering to the defendant, in person, a true copy of the citation with the date of delivery endorsed thereon with a copy of the petition attached thereto, or
mailing to the defendant by registered or certified mail, return receipt requested, a true copy of the citation with a copy of the petition attached thereto.

No where does it say that they can attempt contact over a voicemail, if anyone knows of another section that states this let me know.

I haven't given any personal information, but I would like to know if its legit or not to pay it off.

Thank you

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

I got a call from "Mr. Allen." He left personal information about me on the voice mail at my work, including my full name and what the message was about. This is not a private voice mail line, but shared by all the employees at my job, so anyone can check it. He said I was being served and to call back this number and consider myself officially "served" and that he would be trying to bring the paperwork to my work or my house.

I got the same type of call from this person, and it was not very nice. Ryan was pleasant enough, but not a Mr. Allen. There was a call from another man (Mr. Allen) , who wasn't nice at all. In fact this person called another person in our local area, and left very personal information on their answering machine. This other person that was called happened to be my adult son, who was frantic thinking I was going to be arrested. WTH???

I got a call from this number (888-891-4850) and a Ryan Sullivan answered. He told me that I owed $1300 to a online loan company. He also told me that there was a summons to pay or face higher fees and court costs with possible jail time. When I called the loan company they told me I owed them about $425 and my case had been sold to a company called "National Credit Adjusters". They are a ligitiment company and I do owe them the $425 which I had forgotten about. Anyways I need to know if that number (888-891-4850) is a scam or not?

Depending on your state there are laws in place that require a process server to call 24 hrs before the service of process, and many times if there is a change of venue for the service the process server will call 1st to verfy their information!!!!

This is a junk debt collector posing as a process server. Don't fall for it. No Process Server  calls before serving papers. Real servers are paid by actually serving the papers. Therefore it's not logical cor them to call ahead and warn people.
