May have gotten my name from a Fannie Mae loan. They say that they are calling from Salley Mae. However, I do not owe any student loan money to them. So, is this a scam or does someone else have my same name? After telling them I'm not the person they seek, called management to find out what's going on. Would not give my SSN or DOB. Only the stupid would do that, right? Will get to the bottom of this.

They don't leave a message calls all morning and evening

By far the worst debt collectors I have spoken to. Rude, mean and expect miracles from some one who has no job or income (since no one will hire me, apparently due to debt issues) . They had the nerve to tell me they were going to sue my parents, who have no legal debts to them, since their names are not on the paperwork.after I told them that I have no way to pay. And even though my debtors were willing to settle for less than 1/2 of what I owe they wanted the full amount, after I mentioned that they hung up on me.

If they take me and my parents to court as they said they would, they will be facing a counter suit for far more than they expect. I have already spoken to a lawyer and he told me in this case my parents have no legal obligation to pay, and only would have if they had co-signed for my loans which they did not and that they were using scare tactics to try and force a payment out of me.

Scam or not, calls like this are harassment at its best.

Received several calls from this number.  I called the number and was told that they were looking for a person named "Rikoski". (spelling approximate). I was treated rudely and asked that they not call again because I've listed my number on the "do not call" list.

Definitely a scam...I called back to find out the name of the company and the woman says "this is a business".  Won't even disclose who they are?!?!  Now what kind of legimately run business would do this?  For those posts that say it's a student loan company, I would be concerned because a legit one, won't make it so difficult to get information.  Plus do a google search for the phone number and nothing comes up as to the business name....definitely a scam!

This number calls my phone all the time and never leaves a message...until today. Said that they're looking for my boyfriend, which I don't know how they got MY number and not his but they call constantly. Is this harassment or a scam? As far as we know, my boyfriend has been paying all of his student loan debt and these people do not show up on his credit report. I'm afraid to even have him call them because the last time some random debt collector called him we ended up in a court case with them for harassment(which we won). What should we do?

FOR THOSE OUT THERE THAT DONT KNOW HOW THE STUDENTS LOAN WORKS...THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF LOANS PRIVATE AND FED....FEDERAL LOANS CAN BE GARNISHED AND ALSO CONSOLIDATED IN ONE PAYMENT....PRIVATES LOANS ARENT....FIRST SOURCE IS THE PEOPLE THAT COLLECT ON THIS PRIVATE LOANS...MY EXPERIENCE WITH THEM, AFTER I TOOK MY TIME TO LISTEN AND ASKED QUESTIONS, WAS EXCELLENT. THEY EXPLAINED EVERYTHING AND PUT ME IN A PLAN THAT WAS ABLE TO AFFORD...TODAY I AM STUDENT LOAN DEBT FREE AND WAS ABLE TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL TO FINISH MY BACHELOR....THANK YOU FIRST SOURCE...YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!

I also thought that it was fake when they starting calling for my daughter....got me worry and finally convinced my daughter to call and know I can said that thanks to First Source my daughter is back in school and debt free....they are awesome....Me too @ first couldnt understand why all the questioning before any info is release, but now I'm gratefull that they take their time to make sure they are disclosing personal info to the right person.....

I also thought this was a scam but once i actually took the time to listen I reliazed this was in fact for my SLM student loans. You all think it's a scam because you choose not to listen.

Called me 27 AUG 10 asking for $40,000! They told me it was for school loans signed for in JAN. 2007. The only problem I had with this is that I was in Iraq NOV 06 on  my second 10 month tour. You do the math. Good try but don't ever show up in my neck of the woods, I may just have close quarters combat flash back!!! Necks would be broken!!! LOL. Anyway folks, this is a %110 SCAM!!!!!!

we received a couple of phone calls today from this number. IT'S A SCAM, we have been paying our student loans on time. Talk to your company where you got your student loan from if any questions.

I just received a call form this phone number and it was First Source. It is a collector of Student Loans.

They called acting as though they were a student loan lender.  when I called the company I pay each month, they said they had no affilaition, had never heard of them and anyway no outside company would be contacting me.  This scam used the name First Source lending or something or other.
