Man asked for my late husband, claiming they need to talk to him about his PayPal account. After I told him that my husband had died, he asked for confirmation, asking me to fax the death certificate. I told him I had already faxed the death certificate. He apologized and hung up.

It is PayPal. They called me because I had accidentally overdrawn my bank account and they couldn't pull money from it so they needed me to log into pay pal and make a payment another way

Well how in the world can you get a negative balance in paypal? Come on. It links to your bank account, either you have enough money in there or you have the instant transfer setup and it sends it automatically.

This is contracted third party calling about negative paypal balance. Don't resolve balance with them thou. 3rd party is a common point of fraud occurrence, especially one the that operates over seas. Be smart and call paypal main number even if you don't have an account, as a fraudster may be using your info or number.

It is Paypal. I finally answered it today and we fixed my negative balance while I was on the phone (I verifed this). They didn't ask for any information such as credit card or login info. Definitely legit.

The phone number is NOT PayPal. I also got a call from this number. So I logged I to my PayPal account and called the 800 number given. They told me that this was NOT one of their numbers. So it looks like you got scammed. You might want to check your credit report for evidence of fraud.

Don't answer--call them back at the number on their site.
It's legit, just not the same number listed--it's their loss department number, not customer service.

No one would have it in their best interest to defend an outgoing call from this number unless they were associates of a scam artist. Period. Anyone claiming to be from an online service or credit card company calling YOU asking for money by credit card or mail, IS A SCAM. You're an adult that can go to their official site and check things out for yourself, and if the call was legitimate oh well, better to handle things the proper way and save yourself the hassle of being scammed.
