Debt Collector
On a whim I answered the phone when this number came up,  They were looking for my ex-daughter-in-law (who had a debt problem), asking for her by her maiden name.  I explained that she'd been out of our life for 10 years and asked how they got my number. She said it was on their list as a contact for the ex and I said that this was impossible since it was a new phone number and we had no contact with ex in 10 years. She said she would take our number off their list immediately and I gave them the ex's mother's number.  Perfectly nice lady from collection agency.  BUT we will see if they call again.

Debt Collector
I just had this ph# assigned to me and have gotten at least 5 calls from this company.  I called back and told them never mind I just found out this was a scam and hung up on them.  I just registered to donotcall.org and hope that will be the solution to stop these calls

Just MAYBE it's none of your business. You have no idea what anyone goes through and why they may or may not have debt they haven't paid. You probably have outstanding debt yourself because any idiot who would work for a scumbag company like NCO, who may very well be licensed or "legitimate", but practices their business illegally by violating people's rights and violating the FDCPA and the FCRA can obviously not get a good job. Why don't you look up how many times they have been sued and lost or settled out of court. The only judgements they win are because people are too scared to show up to court and don't know their rights, so a default judgement is granted.
"MABIE"? Really? What grade did you make it through, 8th or 9th? Learn to spell before you judge anyone!

If your response is indicative of your company (NCO) the why would I want to talk to you or anything to do with you?  Obviously being polite is not a priority, nor is wasting people's time.

Received a call this afternoon and when I answered a recording said "Your call will be connected in a few minutes."  I hung up.  I don't owe anyone any money, and if they don't have the staff to try and shake people down they shouldn't be making the calls.

The word is spelled "maybE" not "maybie" no matter how many times you use that spelling....it's still wrong.

When the credit card company made an incorrect calculation (after two years of religious monthly payments and even sending lump sum from bonuses earned) and refused to correct the error that took my principal balance owed ABOVE the orriginal amount owed two years previous, I then refused to send them another penny....stating I will out live the amount owed, bad credit reporting, and any other knife they could stab me in the back with. I have no problem sending them a lump sum cash amount to pay off the leaches and be done with them completely, but first they will correct the error (I have the documentation from THEIR statements), return the principal balance to the correct amount, remove the late fees + interest, correct the reported credit status. All of this in writing....I will send them a certified cashier's voucher from the bank of their choice.
Just because a credit card company SAYS you owe $$$ doesn't mean they are correct in the amount. I hope they all go to hell along with the bottom feeders they employ to collect a so called "bad debt". Collection agency workers should be ashamed for trying to make money from the financial pitfalls others sometime endure. Me, I still bought two new vehicles, a beautiful boat, a house, I have my retirement funds (4), interest bearing CHECKING account, and finally a savings account for my vacation money. All of which I bought without the use of any credit cards.

By the way, I was awarded the credit card debts in a divorce as a part of the "joint" debt division portion of that order. To this day....I have NEVER applied for a credit card. As a married couple, if one does it....you both did.

It is not enough to say "don't answer the phone if you don't want to talk to them." That number just called my boyfriend's cell phone at 12:30am. I, for one know that it is unethical AND breaking a law to call that damn late! What reputable company would do that?!

Um...Actually NCO is a perfectly legitimate Debt Collection company.  Yes their tactics can sometimes leave a lot to be desired, and yes sometimes they do call the wrong people, but as a business they are NOT a scam.  They either purchase bad debts from other creditors or other creditors contract with them to collect on their bad debts.  I work in the debt industry (not as a collector...I'm a debt specialist which means I settle debt for the debtors not the credit card companies) and I've worked with a number of people at NCO.  I'm definitely not going to stand up for the company as a whole, but just because they may employ some bad apples doesn't mean that they're a criminal company.  Yeah they can be harassing but seriously...don't answer the phone if you don't want to talk to them.

They are violating the Texas Debt Collection Act by making repetitive calls from a collection agency to my number.  Federal Law also prohibits any "conduct to harass, oppress, or abuse."

Well you can keep complaining, but until you pay the bills for what you owe you don't have a leg to stand on.  You're on their list since you decided you didn't need to pay a credit card, hospital bill, clothes, loan, etc...  They will send you a letter with details as to what the collection is for.  More than likely you threw it away.  Pay your bill, clear your credit and move on with your life.    Depending on how much you owe, well... I hope you do well in court.

You can submit a Cease and Desist letter to them telling them to stop all calls to your number. Just ask them what fax # or where to mail the letter to and this will stop the calls. :)

The last comment can be ignored as its presupposition is that if you owe a debt the collection agency can do whatever they want to collect it, which isn't true at all. There are reasonable limits and collection agencies frequently violate those limits, preying on the insecurities and fears of those in debt.
