With all these complaints for the past year, it makes you wonder how they are still in business. I guess the FTC says they are legit.May as well go tell it on the mountain as the song says.Oh,Lord.

I received a vcm from Mr. Hawkins so I returned his call to find out what his msg was about.  I was very polite, and professional (I am a paralegal), to only get nasty names called to me, threats, and all sorts of very, very nasty comments said to me.  He said I was a foul mouthed, obesed, piece of trash, because a check from 6 years ago was written to a food merchant.
I did not respond because I had already told him that without a formal or informal letter or bill I was not giving my bank info or credit card info over a phone.  But I would be happy to pay when I got proof.  He said no they could not do that. So I called my boss and will be filing charges against him for harassment using his own vcm msg against him.  Thank you Mr. Chris Hawkins for your message.  For the record I do not drive a Suzuki, do not live on any county road, and only weigh 137.  You rock though Mr Unprofessional.

Called another person looking for me and gave that person all my supposedly information. I called them back and they told me I was a hoodrat, a thief, and had a 5th grade education. I called back and pretended to be someone else and they gave me that person name social date of birth address bank name and number and where they worked. Which is illegal by the way. They didn't verify anything. THEY ARE FAKE!!!!! Oh and the bank return check fees was like 366 really for a $12 check.

*******************SCAM ALERT**********************************

I received a message from Janis Christian telling me that charges would be filed if I did not return her call. I did call and she viciously started an attack on me telling me I owed for a uncleared check from 2004. When I tried to explain that I did not have an uncleared check she freaked out on me and then told me that she was going to have me arrested. I asked to speak with a supervisor who attacked me further. I told him please go ahead and send this supposed check to the DA office and if this is legitamate they would contact me. The abuse from this person was insane. He rattled off some of my personal information and I just hung up. These people were trying to extort 370.00 from me. After getting on line I saw several of the same stories. I laugh at this because I knew it was a scam but there are people out there that won't. Where I live.. a couple of months ago there was a story on the news where this happend to a lady in a small town. She was so freightened by these calls that she committed suicide. That is a very extreme case but I knew that I needed to do something. I contacted my local police department and reported this incident. They got a copy of the message that was left on my phone. The next step was talking and reporting them to my State Attorney Generals Fraud and Scam department. They also wanted a copy of the voicemail and all the names a numbers I had for them. This opened a fraud investigation for New Hall. The next step was reporting this business to the FTC federal trade commission. I know that I shouldv'e just left it there but I'm worried about people falling for this scam. Please be aware.

To the people from that company that verbally abused me . All I can say is that I feel very sorry for you that you go to work everyday and have to spew venom all day. You were in my prayers that you find some peace because you have to be absolutely miserable.

Prank Call
These jerks had my name but the middle initial was wrong.  They also had my birthdate, ssn, year make model & purchase date of my vehicle.  I have never written a check at the restaurant they referenced nor have I ever written a hot check in my life.  Check was supposedly $ 70.But now, with fees, I owe over $ 500.  Which they said makes it a felony.  Additionally I have never had a bank account with the bank they referenced .  I called the corporate offices of the restaurant they claim I defrauded & the gave me the phone number to the company that collects bad checks for them.  This company was very polite & helpful & had no record of a bad check under my name or the other name where the initial was different.  The restaurant called me back later & told me they had contacted Newhall & learned that the bad check was written in 2005 & that they didn't own the restaurant until 3 years later.  The corporate restaurant people agreed with me that these jerks at Newhall were mean & nasty to deal with.  They put me in touch with the original owners who in 2005 operated the restaurant under a similar yet completely different name.  When I contacted that original company, they assured me that they have never heard of Newhall & do no business with them.

Further research taught me that a company that has been defrauded will seek civil action first to get their money.  They cannot seek both civil AND criminal action.  Also, in my state the CHECK itself has to be over $ 150 to be a felony.  the FEES have nothing to do with it.  On a misdemeanor bad check, the susie of limitations in my state is ONE YEAR & on a felony it is THREE YEARS.  This has been almost right years since they are claiming I wrote the check.  Additionally, in my state, they have to file a complaint with some type of government board & that entity must contact me & give me ten days to pay before any kind of criminal action can be taken.

These jerks at Newhall were laughing at my distress, insulting to the highest degree.  They told me I was fat, which I weigh 120, lol. When I asked them to spell the name of the company, they told me I needed to go back to school to learn how to spell.  They called me a liar repeatedly & even made life sexual comments about my mother, I am not kidding.  I can't count the number of times they threatened me with karl & when I kept insisting they had a case of mistaken identity, they yolks me that after a few nights in jail & am appearance before a judge, I MIGHT be allowed a hand writing expert to prove that.

I am convinced this is a scam & after a lot of thought have decided that they just brow beat a person until they have them convinced they did something wrong & are more than happy to pay them to get them off their backs.  This is why they choose a date so old, note everyone on this forum has been accused of writing a small check to a restaurant way back in 2004 or 2005.  Tomorrow I am filing a police report & will also be filing a complaint with the attorney general.  I will NOT pay Newhall one vent, NOT EVER, because I do not owe them or anyone they have referenced one cent.  In addition, of an contacting the bank they have referenced & getting them involved.  Under the Patriot Act, financial institutions are forced to take these type of scams wore seriously & take action against them.

I also noticed Newhall has set up a real nice website, probably in response to some of the comments in this forum.  However, if you read the FAQS, it will clue you in to how bogus they are & how their main function is to intimidate people till they have pushed them over the edge.

My mother received a call and said she owed $9.00 and some change for a NSF check from 1986 in New Mexico to an ice cream store. So she called the Ice Cream shop and they had not been in service at that time. Unfortunately they harrassed her so much told her she was going to jail that she set up 21 payments at 21.00 a month. So I got involved had our bank stop payment and report them. She called them back to request this in writing before she would allow any more payments and their story changed to now it was a store in Oklahoma in 2005 so we called the store in Oklahoma and they were not in business at that time. They yelled at her more told her they are going to the DA'S office with this. I called them today first guy could not answer to why these places show a bad check when they were not even around and I told him how they were rude he said no they are not. I requested everything in writing on letter head and copy of the check. He refused to do so said he was not able. I told him I will have our attorney get in touch and he says let me look into this further please hold then that JACK SIMPSON guy gets on is rude will not let me talk and when I advised that we stopped payment he says oh this is for 21 checks now you can come get you mother in jail in Los Angeles CA. I finally told him to go F himself and my attorney will be in touch. They are fraud anyone else out there getting these call be carefull. For those people out there telling us Crackas to pay our bills. How do you know these are ligit. I know for a fact my mom did not have an acct with the supposed bank and nor did she ever live in either one of these states. If anyone else out there as more info please post. I am also turning them in to the DA's office and to the BBB.

These people have called and are harassing my son-in-law. Calling about checks from 2004 - 3 prior have already been proven as stolen with local DA's offices and police reports.  They are calling about 2 more and not listening about the circumstances and threatening prosecution and would not give the DA's number.  They have called his father who has a heart condition and his brother. *Giving this information to anyone other than the individual is ILLEGAL per debt collection laws. They also would not give their name which is also ILLEGAL per debt collection laws. (Ever heard of the Mini-Miranda?).  Watch your step and do not give any personal information to these people or pay them anything because they also have to send you a written evidence. $4 check and $ 30 check = they want over $700. ALSO seems illegal with extreme fees tacked on because there are limitations to fees as well.

Dear Newhall and Associates,
If you are a stand up company, then why are you and your employees so against providing your contact information, you demand payment even when proof that you have no right to the debt is provided to you, insisting that the company contacted you directly when I have proof that they sold an account to a collection agency 3 years ago.
Stating that the collection company which currently owns my account "doesn't have a very good reputation". so you are not going to accept it.
Citing confidentiality as the reason why you can not provide me with the contact information of the person who provided you with MY personal information to "Investigate as a fraud case" is absolutely absurd.
If you are indeed a reputable company then any individual would be able to pull up your better business bureau information, but guess what you are not registered. If you are, I would like proof.
You may be able to make money off of those who do not know better, but a lot of us out there are smarter then you think.....

I received a call from a Jack Simpson at ext 316 stating I owed a large sum of money from a check in 2005, and if I did not pay it I would be arrested. So I contacted my local police department and was advised not to give them any banking information because this appears to be a scam and the statute of limitations has passed so charges could not be filed. These people are rude liars that are trying to steal from people.

Started getting calls from this number 2-27-2012 and they stated they were calling to collect on bounced checks, and said it totaled up to $749 with the fees.   I had my wife call them back because that is who they say they were looking for and he told her she wrote 3 checks that bounced to taco johns in 2004 and 2006. I told her not to pay them a dime because the statute of limitations even on what they are calling a felony is only 3 years and these sound like they're are from 7 or 8 years ago. I called him back to tell them they have no legal right to bring on a civil or criminal case and he said since we moved since 2005 that means they are not out of statute which makes no sense. He claims we were "hiding" and that extends the statute of limitations. I insisted they have no case and he proceeded to tell me he is sending it to the day's office and a warrant would be issued for her arrest.   Oh and by the way now he said we owed over $1000 with the fees and that makes it a felony. The law clearly states that the amount of the check has to be over $1000 to be a felony or if all checks to the same place add up to a face value of $1000 or more.  The amount they say we owe is way over the legal amount (in Colorado 3 times the check amount or $100 per check check, whichever is more). With that calculation there is no way it's over $1000, the checks were all less than $50.

This guy is just trying to scare us into paying. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, I will not give them a dime and neither should you. I think this maybe a scam, plus the called me on my cell phone which means they used a predictive dialer program which is illegal also. My cell phone isn't even in my name so there was no other way they could have gotten my number unless they used the dialing program.

If he keeps calling twice a day I am going to file a restraining order so they will stop trying to scam us.

"John" is another [removed:lang] from Newhall Associates.  Look at the article he posted.  It is the same article from Newhall Associates' ridiculous webpage.  "John" also fails to mention that this person wrote 20 bad checks and had a bunch of previous convictions. There are statute of limitations.  Here is a helpful link:

1. Post from "Kenny" on Dec. 16, 2011 = post from Newhall Associates.
2. This company is violating the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and most likely the debt collections laws of all 50 states.  Here's how it works.  Some scam artist decides to set up shop and creates some bogus company with some bogus name.  Their business model is, of course, nothing innovative - it has already been thought of and has been outlawed to protect individuals from the harassment that you all have already encountered.
Whatever debt they are claiming you owe may be a real debt, but it's just as likely to be fake.  If it's real it doesn't make anything that they are doing any less illegal.  Look at the amounts everyone is saying they owe - all small amounts.  This would never be worth anyone's time unless part of their illegal business model was trying to strong arm someone for whatever they try to mark up the alleged debt they claim you owe.  Large corporations will sell a bundle of all of their tiny accounts receivable that they have already written off for next to nothing to anyone.  If Newhall was actually a reputable company they would (among other things) be attempting to collect on larger debts that actually mattered and would never bother with these ridiculous small amounts.  They are claiming you guys have committed a crime, but they are the ones who are actually committing crimes.  Do not give this company anything, find out all you can about them, and report them to your State AG and the federal authorities.

I have been on the phone with my "account represenative". I set up payments for an initial amount. I called back within two days to move the payments to bi-weekly. Then I called this week (Tuesday, I believe) and got the total pay off and told him to stop the payments and I would pay the balance off as soon as I got my tax return (we're paying off all of our debt) which would be withing two weeks. Anyway, he told me that they needed at least one more payment (due bi-weekly) by the first so we scheduled a payment for the first. Then he tells me it's like $5.xx less than the payment we set up. Then he gave me the total  payoff (a different figure than he told me in the initial phone call--and yes, I did the calculations less the payments I've made already). This morning I wake up to a charge on my account for the INITIAL  payment amount (which is $5.xx higher) that wasn't supposed to come out until the first. I've already placed a call and left a message asking to speak with a supervisor. I've the the total balance ready to pay off and get these jerks out of my bank account. Needless to say I'm pissed and confused. This WILL be resolved TODAY. And if they touch my account again they'll hear from my lawyer. Period.
