It is American Cancer Society. They weren't looking for donation, just someone to mail letters to your neighbor.  I answered because two months ago we were receiving numerous calls from telemarketers. It took me a while to collect the information (time, dates, etc.) but I composed a letter and sent it to our State Attorney General. We have since received letters from various companies "apologizing" for the situation, and the calls have stopped.Caller ID: Toll Free Call
Caller Type: Non-Commercial
then why hang up??

I have taken the advice of several of the other writers here, and they are in fact correct in their statements. This number does indeed go to the American Cancer Society. There are a few simple directions to follow.

1) Call the number back (888) 932-7007.
2) You will hear a woman speaking - press #1
3) A man will start speaking - Press #3 to be removed.

As Jules has said, the message will tell you that law allows them to keep your number on their list for up to 30 days, but they will try to remove it 'within a couple of days.'

Thanks,
Irritated Telephone Customer

I called the number back which appeared on my caller ID and with a little patience, was able to hopefully get my number removed from their system.  Just listen to the menu and there is an option #3 to enter your phone number to be removed.  They do tell you that according to federal regulations, they could take up to 30 days to remove your number, but will "try" to have your number removed with in a "couple of days".

In order to get tot the option where you can have them remove your number, you have to wait for another message or two after they give you option 1, to speak to a representative.  Just keep listening for a little longer and option 3 DOES come up.

Receive these calls daily and have ignored them prior to today.  Today I answered the line and they said it was the American Cancer Society.  I asked to be removed from their list and the lady on the other end coughed loudly and rudely in my ear and never said another word......I ended up hanging up on them.

calls from 888-932-7007 keeps coming in morning noon and night.  It is annoying.  I don't care if they are charitable organization, they are still trying to get money from your pocket, just like the polotocians who created the law "do not call" and why is it my responsibility to call them up to get my number out of their system.

Telemarketer
After receiving these hangup calls for the last 3 months, it took me 3 days of detective work, but I finally identified the company doing the telemarketing calls for the American Cancer Society.  It's a company in Akron, Ohio called Infocision. They're on the web at www.infocision.com and their phone number is 330-668-1400.  I got a live body this morning who told me that they would put my number on their Do Not Call list and who said she would "look into" the problem I described with receiving the countless calls from 888-932-7007 with no one on the line.

I called the number back.   I waited to the end of the recorded message and the recording ask if you want further information to push "1"  after the next recorded message ask you to push option "3" if you do not want to receive anymore calls.  A recording come on to ask you to enter your phone number.  The recording comes back to repeat your phone and if it's correct to push "1"    after you push one the recording come back with "Federal Government has stated your number need not be removed for thirty days but they will make every effort to remove your number in two day"

Just put them on my block list...so much easier and no more calls.  They were calling at least 3 times per day / 7 days per week.  That's a bit more than ridiculous no matter how good the cause is.

This is the "Notes for Neighbors" campaign for the American Cancer Society.  I received two calls in the past 24hrs.  I told them yesterday I was not interested and don't call back.  They called back again this morning.  I called the number back and got myself *hopefully* removed.  The menu option for that it is a bit hidden.  You need to press 1 then 3, put in your number and then press 1 again.

i have received these calls twice a day for aa year now.  they never leave a message and never identify themselves as the cancer society; i refuse to pick up.  i am on a no call list but somehow (because i have given before) they think its o.k. to call.  thank you for the number to call  to get removed from the list.  However there is another no. that calls which is also the cancer society----its either "breast cancer or cancer research" so if you say you gave they tell you you didnt give to their program..  . I just called the 435-7227 number and they said they would remove me from their list/we  will see.

Called 11-11-09 10 a.m. New Robo-call of the day. I no longer answer any of them, there are about 30 different 'charities' that call me, usually between 10-10:30 each weekday and often on week-ends. None identify themselves on Caller ID. I have tried asking to be taken off their lists, but this has never worked. Good reason to NEVER give to any charity I haven't searched out myself. I'm evidently on many lists. Aiming for the 'they never answer' list & not answering any unless they have a family or friend caller ID. Any 'legit' caller will have an ID, or leave a message and a call-back number. I feel sad for all of us who can't stop this kind of pollution, but oh so grateful not to have to take the job on the other end. Grateful too that here there are no infants to wake or work-at-home activities to interrupt. I'm just going to bless them and let the universe take care of it--nothing I do has any effect.

A very nice lady from the American Cancer society answered and very politely took my number off their list.
Just call them and have your number removed.
Complaining on a site like this list is like complaing to yourself.

I called them back this evening, but was not offered a selection 3 to cancel the calls.  Only a 1 to speak to a representative which I did not want to do.  I have sent out their forms in the neighborhood before.  Once you do it, they expect you to continue even if you are dealing with a cancer issue in your immediate family.  They were absolutely rude about it.  I have refused to do it since that experience.

Thanks to Vic who said all we have to do is call the number back and listen for directions - pressing #3 removes your phone from calling list. It was American Cancer Society and they were very polite.  I called on Sunday evening and responses were automated.

All you have to do is call their number, 888-932-7007. Most of it is automated and you just touch the correct numbers to have your number removed.  You will have to listen to their answering system before getting the right numbers to select.  Called this evening.  Hope to have no more of these.

Not sure who this but it looks like from most of the previous entries that it's the American Cancer Society. Since I have donated to the ACS in the past so I am guessing it's them.

This is a worthwhile charity but this "secretive" approach in contacting donors is underhanded and deceptive (their name doesn't come up on caller ID, instead it's "800 Service"), sadly it will keep me from donating to them ever again.

Hey, how can we get back at these people?  Is there anyway to return their nuisance back to them?  I understand that someone on tv has made recommendations in ref. to these type of calls.  But I can not remember the trick.
