06/25/2014
I answered a private phone call from a woman asking if anyone would be home to receive legal documents..and I asked her what kind of legal documents...she gave a number to call (8889971223) with a reference number. So I called it and a lady named Tracy/Tracey Bailey told me that my husband is being sued by a company called Legacy Visa which is a credit card co. My husband said he doesn't remember, because she dated this back from 2006 to 2009. She told us that the amount that was due was $2489.73. But if we agree to pay something now, she would bring the amount down to $1216.80. So I fell for it because she said if we don't abide, then they will garnish %35 of his checks. I didn't want that to happen because his checks were already being garnished from child support. I gave her $202.80 today and she told me that this same amount will be taken out every week until its paid off.

I asked her if this will be taken off his credit report and she said yes. So we went on credit karma and nothing about legacy visa was on it. So then I started to ask why isn't it there and if this is a scam...she told me credit karma isn't up to date with anything and that they are legit. I'm not all that educated with law firms and letigations, but I felt super stupid after reading everyones posts about this company.

Do I just cancel my card and account? Are they going to garnish my husbands checks? because the called his employer asking for him and his info. They didn't send us anything about being sued or anything.

Can anyone help me?

They are not very pleasant people. First if they are a legitimate debt collector, they would work with you and not threaten you. Also if a payment declines who ever heard of a fee of A$50.00 being added to your account. They do not have a good repuation with the better business bureau and they should be reported the Federal trade commision.

Good for you!  I wish more people knew that it's a violation of federal law to threaten alleged debtors with harassment, breach of privacy, and arrest.  Debt is civil, not criminal, so no one is going to be arrested.  If you get their physical address, you can mail them (certified mail/return receipt) a cease and desist letter saying you do not acknowledge this debt and are disputing it, as well as they can only contact you via mail.

Today, out of the blue I received an unknown caller ID call on my cell phone and at my place of employment.  The woman said her name was Sarah Morgan.  She said she was a "private locator" retained to "serve me with legal documents" - I guess the phone call was my legal document as she never mailed me a notice.  LOL

Anyhow, she was from URG Litigators and said I had a payday loan out for $300.00 and that I owed it plus interest.  She also said she would continue to call me, and she would call every friend and family member I have on record until they could find me.  That I would get served, arrested, taken to court.  And that if I didn't call them back today, I would be taken to "court".  She never said which court, and I would be charged with failure to show.  This is all a bunch of crap.  None of this is proper, legal procedure.  Do not fall for it.  I sat down tonight and made a complaint with my State's Attorney general's office, the FTC and the the Consumer protection Buearu.  I can't wait to have them taken care of.  How dare they!  Don't let them scare you.

Report them to the FTC who has already sued them, also report them to the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.  They have shut down these operations in California, and arrested their owners.  Record and save any and all phone calls and you can hire an attorney to sue them at the cost of $1000 a phone call.

This company called my cell phone left a voice mail for my husband stating that her name was Tonya and she held papers to be served to "used my husbands name" and that if I did not call back within one hour, those papers would be served and left a case number.  She stated that it was for a bad check with the intent to defraud a financial institution.  She never gave her companies name or who the debt company was.  My husband has never written a bad check so I just ingored the call.  THen I get another call from this company the next day and left a voicemail for my hasband to call them back.  So, I called them back and got the most hateful woman I have ever dealt with on the phone.  She said her name so fast I couldnt tell what her name was.  I asked her for her address and who the dept was with and she wouldn't tell me.  She wanted to know my name and I would not tell her.  I told her that I knew my rights and she could not threaten me...she then yelled at me and told me that she could do whatever she wanted to do because "used my husbands name" was under criminal investigation.  Then she asked if this was "used my name" that my name was on the investigation too.  She asked me how long I had this cell phone?  I told her that was none of her business.  I told her to calm down and please don't be rude.  She then repeated she could do whatever she wanted to do.  I asked her not to call my number again then she hung up on me.  So I filed a complaint with the FTC against URG and they said they were opening an investigation on URG and their threatening tactics.  By law they cannot threaten or harass you with a lawsuit.  THey have to divulge their info and they have to give you the right to dispute the dept or whatever.  Well, with the governent shutdown, the FTC site is unavailable.  URG called my cellphone again today but would not leave a voicemail.  This company is horrible.  If I owe a dept, then I will be glad to pay it, but at least tell me what it is for.  My husband and I are thinking maybe a medical bill since they had my name too but the only dept we owe has been settled with payments to the hospital.  Hope the FTC comes back online soon so they will take care of these awful people.

omg are they going to take you to court????  But if this is a collection agency I think you should tell them you would like to settle and say a low amount like maybe 350 or lower if the current balance is lower than 350....that always works for me and my debt...try it and let me know

Hey, I was wondering what the current status is with you and URG? They are definitely not legit...no street address, no website, etc. They have been harassing  me, my ex-husband and step daughter. They threaten but never follow up. I just left a nasty message with them, calling them out on their tactics.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

How did you report them? I'm having the same issue--- they claim I owe on a Mastercard. I've never had one and they won't tell me who it's through. They told me they are putting a lein on my house, garnishing my husband's wages and there's a court case against me.....there is NOT. They claim they are NOT a debt collection agency- actually told me that they don't have time to be a stupid collector trying to get my dirty money. They are a law firm who "doesn't have time for my lies and excuses." I honestly thought I was  being phone scammed by my local radio show.

After speaking to a very rude lady on the phone, asking them to please stop calling my son's phone as well and giving him third party information, she told me I would be getting served with papers to appair in court.  After about 30 minutes of that conversation, I got a call from a Taylor Cook, who is a private investigartor  for URG.  I asked what the name of her company she represented, address, etc....  She told me "since I wanted to play stupid, she would have me served in a federal court and she would see me then".  This is for an 08' debt I paid off two years ago.  And I'm being told who I paid in two years ago is a scam artist and they are the real deal.

I got a call from URG Litigation, when I told the young girl, definitely not a lady, that they had the wrong person she went off like a demon! Accusing me of being rude! What a joke. I did start to laugh at her as she was going off, but it was definitely after she started.
Any way I knew what she was saying was not pertaining to me, so she began threatening me with arrest etc, etc.
I am reporting them to Foster Cambell's office the Public Service Commissioner of Louisiana.
These people had my name, address, ss# and birthdate!
