These people are horribly rude... mess with them. Ask them if they sell carpet cleaning shampoo or order a pizza. Ask them if they recycle Christmas trees or if they have a direct number for the Easter Bunny.

This is a scam. They claim to be part of (whatever city you are located in) the Business Development agency. They will not remove you from their caller database. They are rude and interrupt you. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYINFORMATION.

Multiple phone calls from various numbers, they say they're either with Economic Development or the Economic Bureau, sometimes they'll throw a Minnesota in front of it. When you answer there's a delay before they will answer you, and an incredibly noisy background like you would expect from a telemarketer. No consistency to their message so I'm going to call it a telemarketing scam.

The caller said her name was Cassandra, and claimed to be from the Minnesota Business Development Office. She asked, "Have you found a new location or are you still looking?" I asked her three times to please remove our number from her calling list, and each time she repeated, "Have you found a new location, yes or no?" I hung up at that point, and they called right back.

Same here...
They have called in the past saying they were from the State of Florida Business Development office and asking if we had found a new location... Since we were in the process of moving they took me by surprise. I only told them we had just moved, they kept asking if we were looking for a location and I told her, "what part of WE JUST MOVED don't you understand, and she hung up... When they called again a couple of days later I started to ask questions and they hung up on me so I figured it was a scam and I told them to remove my number and I would report them. They stopped and then today again now saying they are from the City of Doral Business Development. They had an old address and old company name that was closed years ago. I told them, NOT THEM AND DON'T CALL AGAIN!!!
We'll see.... DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFO! MOST DEFINITELY A SCAM... PHONE NUMBER NOT VALID WHEN YOU TRY CALLING BACK!!!!

When I picked up the call, the caller immediately asked, "Is this *business name* at *city*?" I am wise to these calls, and asked who was calling. The caller claimed to be from the ?Minnesota Business Development Office.? I asked her multiple times to please remove our number from her calling list, and she rudely refused to do so. She demanded to speak to my manager. I told her to have a nice day.

Calling asking for our CEO. I said that they are away for the next six months. They proceded to ask if we found somewhere to move. I said I don't want to share that information. They said that they already spoke with "her". Our CEO is a male and I called him out on lying and requested to be put on the do not call list. I remember getting MANY of these calls at my old desk job. Do not relase any information, avoid the call completly. I can't imagine they are asking this information for legal reasons and it would be nice if they could somehow get shut down.

I gave this guy the 3rd degree. I know for a fact if you're calling from a state department, it shows up on caller ID. He said the state uses automated calling. No they don't. Even if the state used an 800 number, it'd still show which state department was calling. So I decided to find out what the deal was. As they say, when a woman is ticked off enough, she can figure it out faster than the FBI. So I did. I called my state's Governor's office and they transferred me to the State Attorney General. I was told this IS a scam. They get your information, such as your address, etc & will write out false checks with your address on them. I was told if I had this problem again, keep calling the Attorney General's office and if this begins to occur too frequently, they will start to take a look into the matter because I'm not the only one calling about this problem. So everyone, call your State's Attorney General's office and let them know. Hope it helps those who are getting frustrated.

We get calls all the time asking us if we still plan to move. I've asked numerous times to be removed from their call list, yet they still call.
Robin 2012-11-07 19:45:16 Unknown
I just received same call. Said we were not looking for a new location, and why is she calling/who told her
that. Of course, she just hung up. I wish people would flip burgers at McDonalds and hold a real job instead of working for some company trying to scam people.

Another one claiming to be the State of California Business Development office in San Jose California. A lady with what seems to me a Chinese accent asking if my office had found a new office to relocate to. When I asked her why she was calling she hung up.

Claiming to be calling from the Texas Business Development office. Again harrassing phone calls about moving or not. I just hang up on them.

Received this call twice today, both from BC business development office, asking if we were moving and if we found a place. 1st call I said no, thank you and hung up. 2nd call, I said yes, and we are moving into your office. the caller was dumbfounded and said "what" I said yes, we are moving into your office, so can I have your address. so was like, "I don't know", I said I don't know either and hung up.

Just received a call from this number. There was about a 2-second delay then a woman with a foreign accent and line noise asked to confirm that we were still planning on relocating. I asked where she got that information as it seemed like sensitive information to me. If someone is planning on relocating she would have to give me the name of the person they had previously contacted who gave them that information. She said the previous rep was no longer there so they don't have that info anymore. I asked her to find that out before calling back. Said she would do that. (Yeah, I know it was a fake call... just wanted to "play their game".)

These guys keep calling saying they're from the British Columbia Business Association! they call from different numbers and ask if we're still planning to move. I've said we have no plans to move, never have and to stop calling. I've had some get very aggressive and nasty, others just politely annoying. WHAT'S THEIR SCAM?
Colby... 2012-10-29 16:11:46 Unknown
Call came in from this number: 889-777-0925 -- Said Name Unavailable. -- When I said Hello 2-3 x - it hung up.
Karen 2012-10-29 15:11:31 Unknown
Claimed to be from the "Minnesota Business Office" and said they understand we will be moving soon. Asked the barely Engish speaking scammer where they got that idea. She hung up on me immediately.
Like others have said, the area code doesn't come from where they claim they are calling from.

They have been calling for over a year. We already know the number. There's no way to stop them so we put them on hold until they hang up.
Just got a call today and he was obnoxious and rude. I just laughed and put him on hold again.

Same thing has been happening to me, for probably 8 months now. They call about once a month saying they are from the Washington Business Development Center. The name sounded legit at first, so I would answer 'not moving' and end the call politely. They call about once a month and each time I have gotten more perplexed and more aggravated - this was especially when I started asking them to remove me from their list but, yet again, would hear from them next month. It is nice to get confirmation that they are a total scam - but I don't get what they are trying to accomplish!
Seems like there is no way to stop the madness, so I might as well have fun with it

I just received 7 calls in 10 minutes. I refuse to give out information, I asked her to put me on their do not call list and she said "mam you seem angry". Called again... so I have hung up on her, said nothing, and finally one of the guys in the office answered the phone for me and they hung up. So far no call.
jane 2012-10-24 22:46:01 Unknown
I just received 7 calls from the same person within the last 10 minutes. No matter what I said, hanging up, and even had one of the guys in the office answer. Next time I am going to put them on hold "while I get a person of authority" and leave them.

Received several calls saying they are the Georgia Business Development or California Business Development or some state Economic Development. Then asking if we have found a new place yet. Very rude. Man with Indian accent shouted "Let speak to your supervisor" when I asked him who was calling.
I finally answered "You're a SCAM...stop calling" and hung up.
They kept calling and I kept putting them directly on hold. Let them burn their minutes.
Sharon 2012-10-23 19:12:07 Unknown
Got three calls from this number in 5 minutes. The first time their was a 3 seconds of quiet, then a bunch of call center background noise, so I hung up. They then called another 2 times. The third time the guy kept saying 'Hello", like he couldn't hear me. Next time they get the whistle!!!! Life is too short to deal with these idiots!!!
ArYouMoving 2012-10-22 19:42:39 Unknown
I have been receiving these calls for over a year too. I already recognize the lady (who has a Chinese accent). We now play a game in the office to see who answers the call and can make up the best story ever. We have made up things like we moved to a castle, went bankrupt, we need help with the move, etc. and have also given straight and honest answers like we are not looking to move, etc. We've begged to stop receiving these calls, we've been nice and rude, AND NOTHING makes these calls to stop.
She tells me she is calling from the Pennsylvania development office to conduct a survey. She is obviously calling from overseas.
What I don't understand is how the US does not protect us better and simply disconnects these types of callers.
Jamo 2012-10-19 22:05:39 Unknown
A person with an accent said they were from The California Business Development Office and asked if we are planning to move.
